《MMORPG: Martial Gamer》Chapter 918. Wang Yu, The Quick-witted Student

“Eh?” The City Lord was dumbfounded by Wang Yu’s question. Nobody had requested anything like that from him before.
“Is it true that you need to have that seal?” Wang Yu asked the City Lord.
The City Lord nodded, “En! If I don’t have the seal, Twilight City will become a state without a City Lord. If there is no new City Lord within a week, there is a high chance that other main cities will attack us. By then, everyone in this city, including you and me, will not be able to live in peace.”
“Perfect!” Wang Yu replied, “You can give me a quest to look for the seal and I’ll bring the seal back for you!”
“Tsk!” The City Lord sneered coldly, “Are you taking me as an idiot? What if you don’t come back once I let you leave?”
“Alright!” Wang Yu replied, “Do I have to pass your trial for me to earn your acknowledgement?”
City Lord answered, “En, that’s right!”
“Then you can give me another trial quest! I’ll look for the seal once I pass your trial quest!” Wang Yu replied.
“Is there a difference?” City Lord squinted his eyes as he asked.
Regardless of how many quests he took on, Wang Yu could escape anywhere he wanted once he left the City Lord Mansion.
“There is…” Wang Yu continued, “Once I pass the trial, the seal will be mine. Naturally, I will come back for you to authorize it. Do you really think I will run away?”
“Alright, seems like you are thinking of waiting here for me! I cannot believe you are capable of coming up with an idea like this.”
Hearing Wang Yu’s words, the City Lord managed to understand his intention… This fella was trying to gain something without risking anything of one’s own.
When the ladies beside him finally realised what he was trying to do, they were instantly in awe of Wang Yu too.
In actual fact, Wang Yu was an intelligent person in everything he did. However, his tremendous strength concealed the other strong points about him.

Just like the few ladies, everyone had witnessed how strong Wang Yu was. Initially, everyone thought that Wang Yu was all brawn and no brain. Who knew that Wang Yu had such a crafty side too?
One must know that a trial quest from the City Lord was not something anybody could accept. Wang Yu was clearly in bad predicament so nobody expected him to come up with an idea to ask the City Lord for a quest.
The City Lord didn’t get angry because of Wang Yu’s ridiculous request. Instead, he squinted his eyes and asked, “Do you think that the City Lord’s trial is going to be easy?”
Wang Yu smiled and replied, “If I cannot pass the trial, I will get my friend to look for the seal and bring it back here.”
“And if I don’t agree?” The City Lord smiled coldly.
Wang Yu replied, “Then it is fine for me too. Seven days later, there will be people attacking this city and as players, we will, at most, drop a few levels which we could easily get back. However, I doubt NPCs like you will be revived after that.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“No, this is for all the citizens of Twilight City.” Wang Yu smiled.
“Hahaha! Interesting.” The City Lord laughed out loud, “You have a brain, you’re strong and you fulfill all the requirements to be a City Lord. It seems like there is no better candidate than you to accept this trial quest.”
“You’re flattering me,” a humbled Wang Yu replied.
“This is the truth!” the City Lord continued, “But you have to think about this carefully because I still have two years in the office. The quest that I’m about to give you is not something players at this stage can complete. If you fail this time, you will not have an opportunity in the future anymore.”
“I would like to give it a go, for the citizens,” Wang Yu replied without shame.

The City Lord smiled pleasingly, “Haha! Since you really want me to retire early, I will be more than happy to do so. The trial quest is actually very simple. All you have to do is to defeat me!”
Quest Background: City Lord Wylie wants to retire early. The new owner of Twilight City must be a giant among men, intelligent and strong before being able to gain the acknowledgement of the old City Lord.
Quest Objective: Defeat the Mighty Western Thunderhand, Wylie 0/1
“Tsk! So he meant a different simple.”
Wang Yu finally realised what the City Lord meant when he said that his was simple. He meant the opposite of complicated instead of difficult.
The name Mighty Western Thunderhand, Wylie alone was enough to intimidate others. This was the title format of an Ancient BOSS.
To be able to become the city lord, he naturally had to be an Ancient BOSS. The strength of the City Lord was definitely much greater than Wharton.
“So? Are you fearful now?” City Lord looked over at Wang Yu in a sarcastic manner.
Wang Yu smiled and said, “There is no such word as fear in my dictionary. You still owe me a quest.”
“Oh?”
Hearing Wang Yu’s reply, the City Lord glanced meaningfully at him.
A City Lord’s trial quest was a quest that only players above level 80 would think about challenging. Even a well-known level 80 expert would be slightly taken aback by a quest of this magnitude, let alone a small level 45 fry.
Not only was Wang Yu not affected at all, he even had the guts to haggle over price. This was something that a person could fake. In terms of gaming terminologies, only experts of another class would be able to speak in this manner or display such arrogance. Of course, there was also the possibility that Wang Yu could be an ignorant fool who feared nothing at all.
However, the earlier request from Wang Yu proved that he was clearly not an ignorant newbie who knew nothing.
“Quest? Sure!” The City Lord smiled and handed Wang Yu another quest.
Quest Background: The City Lord Seal had gone missing for unknown reasons. Hopefully, you are able to find it and bring it back.
Quest Objective: Finding the City Lord Seal 0/1
Quest Reward: Central Administrative District Seal (Main) Central Adminstrative District Seal (Secondary)
“This reward… is for me?”
Looking at the two seals given as a reward, Wang Yu was slightly dazed.
As an intelligent NPC, the City Lord’s IQ would not be lower than ordinary players. Even though Wang Yu mentioned that he didn’t take the seal, it didn’t mean that the City Lord didn’t know who took it. At this moment, the rewards for the quest were two of the most important seals in Twilight City. It was basically the same as giving it to him for free and he was basically helping him cheat.
Wang Yu was touched because he didn’t think that another NPC would help him cheat, with the exception of Hermit.
“What are you talking about?!” City Lord shook his head and turned, “Little brat, are you really treating me as a pushover? But if you are really capable of passing my trials, these two seals can be treated as a welcome gift.”
“F*ck…”
Hearing the words of the City Lord, Wang Yu suddenly recalled that he would only get the seals if he defeated the City Lord.
The City Lord was not somebody that was easy to deal with.
At the thought of this, Wang Yu looked at the details of City Lord.
Mighty Western Thunderhand, Wylie (Twilight City’s City Lord) (???) (Obsidian BOSS) (Ancient)
HP: ???
MP: ???

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

I was inspired to create this story after reading the Scale Dungeon, by TheSilverGunner, here on RRL. It is a good story, despite having only a few chapter out at the time of writing this.
