《The Rise Of A Porter 》Chapter 355: One Emperor (2)

"And that's how you can cause a dungeon break on your will." Devon proudly declared after explaining everything about Xenoic energy and other related but controllable factors to Yu Zhung.
Little did he know that Yu Zhung had the brain of a shrimp when it came to anything unrelated to monsters and fighting. Thankfully, Yu Zhung was able to grasp a few basic things like the fact that they needed to make some kind of equipment that feeds off of the Xenoic energy trapped inside the beast crystals. The energy gained from the crystals was then used to overload the dungeon and forcefully destroy the barrier stopping the monsters from rushing right outside.
Once the barrier was destroyed, the monsters would come out like water overflowing from a water tank. Hence, would lead to a dungeon breakout. However, he still had his doubts regarding the plan.
"Ok, I roughly have the idea of what you guys have planned. But don't you think it would be obvious that we or particularly I would have some involvement in these, mysterious and unpredictable dungeon breakouts. That is, in case the breakouts only happened in the other regions and not in my- I mean your territory?" Yu Zhung overworked his brain cells to come up with the first problem he could think of regarding Arnold's plan.
"I mean, people of China and especially the emperors are no fools, they'll manage to put two and two together without much effort you know. And then your plan would backfire on us. We'll face criticism and although nothing would come of it, people's unwavering trust in us would get destroyed."
"You're correct." Arnold smirked, "The Chinese are no fool, I wholeheartedly agree on that. And that's why the first dungeon break would happen in Shanghai."

"Ah... that could work. No one would doubt the first victims of a premature dungeon breakout. Good thinking." Yu Zhung nodded in agreement before asking his next question, "But do me a favour and tell me about the dungeon break beforehand so that I can prepare me and my soldiers to tackle the monsters before they overwhelm us."
Arnold looked at Yu Zhung with a blank expression on his face. He had been hoping that Yu Zhung wouldn't ask him that, because the answer to that question would be kind of a shocker to him. But since he had already asked about it, Arnold had to give an answer to him.
"What do you mean when? It could happen any moment now."
As soon as Yu Zhung heard Arnold's reply, he broke into a fit of laughter. The joke was too good for Yu Zhung to not laugh. It was only when he saw that no one else was laughing with him, he realised Arnold wasn't joking. He meant what he just said.
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FCKING MIND?" Yu Zhung lost his crap and banged his fist on the table in front, shattering it in an instant, "Do you have no empathy for the civilians of this country? You are a fcking crazy son of a-"
"Be very, very careful of what you say next." Arnold interrupted Yu Zhung in a calm but hostile voice, "Or else I'll make sure no one can stop the monsters that come pouring out of that goddam*ed dungeon, understood?"
"Son of a good, humble and gentle soul... I meant to say that..." Yu Zhung immediately switched his words before he said some vile things about his master's mother.
He might've become Arnold's protector, but he still vividly remembered the beating Arnold gave him and did not want the same fate to befall his countrymen.

"But didn't you said that you were still in the middle of making the first dungeon breaker?" Yu Zhung politely asked Devon, because he couldn't look into Arnold's cold eyes without breaking a sweat.
"We happened to have a prototype from before so we thought to test it out first," Devon replied in an emotionless manner.
Devon did not want to show it but at that moment, even he was scared to say too much. Arnold's aura was leaking like crazy and even though Devon knew that the hostile aura wasn't directed towards him, he had a hard time speaking his mind.
Just like Yu Zhung, Devon did not want to offend Arnold. His aura was too much for even the SS ranked warrior to handle, so how could an unpowered man like Devon not feel uncomfortable in that situation.
After what seemed like a millennium, Arnold realised his aura was all over the place and took control over it. Once that was done, he noticed everyone's faces and realised that he couldn't make his allies submit to him by fear. He had to be a role model for them to gain their trust, not force his will upon them. If he did that, they'd eventually stop expressing their opinions to him and he would become some kind of a dictator and he didn't want that.
'I got to learn to control my anger...' Arnold thought and took a deep breath to calm down his raging emotions.
"If you don't mind Arnold, can I ask why you did not inform me about the dungeon break beforehand? If you did then we could have made some preparations for it, that's all I wanted to say..." Yu Zhung spoke after Arnold had visibly calmed down a bit.
"Rather than handing you the answer, let me ask you a question first." Arnold crossed his arms in front of his chest, "If you guys would've prepared to handle an outbreak that wasn't predicted to happen for a week or maybe even 10 days, how do you think it would look like to the world? Forget about the world. How do you think it would look like to those emperors?"
"Pre-planned..." Yu Zhung now realised why Arnold did not give them time to prepare for the dungeon break.
If they had prepared for the dungeon break beforehand, it wouldn't look like the unpredicted or premature dungeon break. And hence, when the same thing happened in the other territories, people would doubt that it was Yu Zhung or his guild behind the attacks s they were the only ones prepared to handle the breakout. Hence, they'd lose the public's trust even if they manage to subdue the other Emperors.
"Exactly. But don't worry, I've already had the place evacuated." Arnold said before stretching his neck, "And before you ask me, no they are not aware of the dungeon break. All they know that they won mystery 'tickets' to their favourite amusement parks or that there was a sale on their favourite brands or similar sh*t. Of course, the money for it was paid by your guild's account. After all, I'm helping you solidify your position in China and its people so I'm not gonna spend my money on it."

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Oracle by Default
Oracles are known as divine handouts passed down from the Holy Creator. There are times when evil exist and the Holy Creator wishes to intervene, to which the title of the Oracle is bestowed upon an individual to become the Creator's will in physical form. The Oracle's mission is to then gather heroes from different races to purge the evil. “For the reckoning that is to come, all are tested. Thou shall be the shadow of which valiant souls shine and guide thee through harsh trials. Till oblivion comes, do not turn astray but to continue down the path thou chosen to walk. Lastly, thou must not see eye to eye with, but against the world.” A mysterious man engraved a seal onto Kihet before saving him from being consumed by the flames. The seal seems to have a strong connection with the legends of the Oracle and a Tower with no entrance that suddenly sprouted near the village. Throughout years, his efforts to study the strange tower remained fruitless. Then one day, the village decided it was time for his friends and him to become envoys to look for the potential evil the Holy Creator detected. Before Kihet can set off on his journey alongside his friends, he has his own set of problems to overcome against the village. Note: It's slow. There is romance, but it plays a small role that I don’t know if I should add it in the tags. Main story starts at Chapter 12. Chapters before do contain meaningful context for the rest of story.
