《The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman 》Chapter 290: Amiss

In the end, since he was a bloodthirsty animal, Garrik didn't even think twice about chasing Zaos, even though he knew Camus was using him. The army split in two, and Garrik and his men followed Zaos's unit directly. Meanwhile, Camus, Luvon, and their mercenaries moved to the left side to stay away from the battlefield. Still, they were close enough to see what Zaos and his unit were doing.
"Captain, continuing with the plan is a terrible idea," Cohnal said. "They can flank us pretty easily if we take too much time moving after firing the arrows."
"It is okay. They won't attack us, at least not now," Zaos said. "I would bet that the hot-blooded one is the one approaching directly, and the other two will see if we have any more tricks up our sleeve."
Cohnal knew that, but he was worried anyway because Garrik's famous as a crazy commander had reached his ears, even though he worked most of the time around the central area of the kingdom. The plan of putting a mental trauma on that army won't work, and if a fight breaks out, the other two armies will have the chance to join the fray and surround them. Zaos had imagined that the two armies would split the twenty-one thousand soldiers into three groups. Still, since it was divided into seven and fourteen, they could always run away to the Northeast. However, Zaos had a better idea… the enemies were quickly approaching, and Garrik was commanding the charge.
"Do you think you can kill that guy?" Zaos asked. "I don't want to let them see me using Wind Blade."
"Wind Blade? Is that what you called that kind of attack? It is kind of weak," Cohnal said. "How about a Storm Sword?"

"We are getting sidetracked here, Cohnal," Zaos said.
"Right… Well, if I got lucky, I might defeat him," Cohnal said. "After losing to you so many times, I would say that I am past my best days."
"From what I heard, you two are the same age," Zaos frowned. "Regardless, usually, I would want to fight that guy, but since I don't want to let us get flanked, I will keep the other guys busy and make sure they won't see anything."
"I understand that… well, I will do my best not to disappoint you, Captain," Cohnal said.
"Okay, I will take the mages with me, so you can lead the others alongside Melisse," Zaos said. "Try to be fast."
Zaos signalized for the mages to follow him. Meanwhile, Melisse and Cohnal would separate the rest of the unit into two teams, archers and melee fighters. The strategy to fire a massive volley of arrows and then run away couldn't be used if the plan was to take down the enemy commander.
Somehow, Zaos's lieutenants managed to do that in just a couple of minutes before Garrik, and his army could reach them. The archers let loose the first volley of arrows while they were running away. Still, since only half of them had experience in shooting while riding a horse, the first volley only hit a small number of enemies and killed around twenty mercenaries.
Once that happened, Zaos and mages left the group and moved to the side, toward the other army was. Since Zaos had already told them what they needed to do, they didn't waste time and cast some strengthened Fire Spears. Although Zaos cast five of those at the same time, he was the first one to fire.

Luvon and Camus frowned when so many Fire Spears appeared above a few enemy soldiers. They didn't hear that the Bloody Knights had mages in their unit. It was unusual to fight them these days since they were too slow, and basically, a single arrow was enough to put them out of the battle. However, when those flew toward them, they immediately noticed that it would be dangerous.
"Scatter!" Camus shouted.
He reacted in time… but not all that much since Zaos was one of the attacks. His Fire Spears hit several groups of horsemen and engulfed many others on fire. The heat of the attacks had been so powerful that the commanders were forced to cover their faces because the area suddenly grew so hot. The enemies that got hit by the attacks died and didn't even have time to scream. Their armor and weapons also melted in the blink of an eye.
The other Fire Spears are not as impressive. It also caused some damage to the horsemen. Not only that, their formation had been destroyed… at least the front of it. Almost five hundred meters away, that group of mages killed almost fifty of his men. Not even their siege weapons had that much destructive power.
"It seems the rumors weren't exaggerated," Camus frowned as he watched Zaos look at his army and wait for their movements. "It is a good thing that we didn't consider Elmar's defeat a fluke."
"Yes… still, I find it hard to believe that someone so young can be this fearless and so resourceful at the same time," Luvon said. "I would say that Garrik is as good as dead if Zaos Sielders decide to fight him."
"He won't. He will make sure that we will stay out of the way," Camus said. "That is actually good for us. Even without moving a single finger, we will prevent Zaos Sielders from fighting Garrik. Even if Garrik dies, his army will cause massive damage to his unit. We couldn't have asked for a better situation for us. Anyway, send the order for someone to grab those for us in Toules. We will need them if we want to seal that boy's cards. Also, give the order to the siege weapons come as well. I don't want that boy close to our armies."
"Understood," Luvon said.

Zaos couldn't help but frown since his plan worked too well… he had imagined that he would attack the two armies a few more times before they decided to keep their distance. While that was good, it made him feel that something was amiss.

The Gambit
The kingdoms have rarely experienced peace, with kings and rulers warring against each other on any percieved slight. With explorers riding the waves to find new lands and merchants eager to set up trade routes while profiting as much as possible. Would the status quo still hold up? The veil is already weakining as more magic and horrors seep through the gap. How would the world deal with the sudden increase in the limited resource of magic? With the times changing, barren lands become trade hubs and the power shifts. The system holding it all together, is in a fragile balance, would a single death break the balance and cause the most devastating war the people have experienced. The direction of the story : The story will not contain any main protagonist, rather multiple protagonists and antagonists with the protagonists having bad some character traits and the antagonists some good ones. I plan to make a story of flawed humans, so if you are looking for OP MCs you would not enjoy it. But I still hope you give it a try. This is my first time writing and I am doing it to get better, so any suggestion or criticism is welcome. I am a university student, so do not expect a robust upload schedule, I'll try to put out 2 chapters a week, but there might be some delays. I apologize for it in advance. P.s. English is not my native language, so there might be some errors, though I tried to mitigate them as much as possible.
