《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 40: Battles

"With pleasure!"
Luo Lan began to gather his Qi as he looked at Su Hei with excitement. In the next second, he kicked the ground and dashed towards Su Hei.
Looking at the fast Luo Lan, Su Hei was stunned. He had seen that Luo Lan was fast from a distance away in the crowd. But seeing it first hand and seeing it from a distance was completely different.
Thwack!
Barely parrying the punch, Su Hei stepped back and looked at Luo Lan with wariness. He felt his hand throbbing even though Luo Lan barely grazed his arm. The skill that Bai Xin deflected perfectly was actually very powerful.
'I'm already body training rank 8. I won't be defeated so easily.'
Stepping forward, Su Hei began to attack. However, Luo Lan simply raised his arm and blocked the attack with a grin on his face. "Too weak!"
Bang!
Kicking, Luo Lan sent Su Hei to the edge of the podium. Afterwards, he charged forward and slammed his fist towards Su Hei.
Swish! Bam!
Su Hei reacted in time and rolled to the side. Seeing the partially destroyed wall, his lips twitched. If that had hit him, he wouldn't be able to escape unscathed. His defense might be good, but it couldn't be compared to that wall before him.
"It's pure raw power," Lin Xiao commented.
Lin Yun nodded. "And big raw power at that."
They all watched as Su Hei was pummeled by Luo Lan without being able to fight back. Even though he was at a rank higher, the biggest difference lies in the fact that Luo Lan had more fighting experience and could use several skills. The skills easily helped him to defeat Su Hei.
Bam!
Pushed to the back, Su Hei coughed. He looked at Luo Lan with wariness as he held his chest. It felt hurt because of the punch just now. There must be internal damage inside his body.

"The fight is not over yet!"
Luo Lan jumped forward. Just as he was a few inches away from Su Hei, a figure appeared before him. His wrist was caught once more as he could see the sky then the next second, it was the ground once more.
Bam!
"That's enough. Do you want to kill him?" Bai Xin asked coldly.
"Ah? I'm not satisfied yet… ow, ow, ow, ow, let me gooooo!"
"You brute."
Bai Xin released Luo Lan and kicked him away. Afterwards, she looked in Su Hei's direction and nodded. "You fought well, but you lack experience."
Lack experience?
For those who were part of the hunting squad, that was truly a large blow. In their team, they all knew that Su Hei was the strongest among them. Even when hunting, they always left the strongest for Su Hei to deal with.
But then again, they rarely encountered beast that couldn't be defeated easily with their bow or sword. The number of time Su Hei had to fight solo against a powerful beast over the past decade could be counted with finger.
Compared to Luo Lan and many other sect disciples who could easily spar against each other every single day, the experience was indeed lacking.
Not to mention, in this village, Su Hei was the only person who had reached body training rank 8. It rendered him unable to spar with others because those who were powerful enough couldn't possibly challenge each other freely. They have their duties to fulfill in the village.
"Thank you for your guidance," Su Hei said humbly and cupped his hand. He slowly walked down the stage.
Bai Xin didn't look at Su Hei anymore. While he might be quite good, there were many others who were much better than him. She didn't look too favorably to him. "Who's next?"

"Me!"
The high pitched voice attracted everyone's attention. At this moment, Xu Qin slowly walked to the stage and cupped her hand. Dressed in beautiful orange dress, she looked very beautiful. Even without makeup and still looked in simple dress, she didn't lose in terms of beauty with Bai Xin.
Bai Xin looked at Xu Qin up and down. Her eyes sparkled with interest when she sensed Xu Qin's rank.
"Body training rank 6?"
"Yes." Xu Qin smiled brightly. After bitterly trained for a long time, she had managed to reach this stage at last. Being only 15 years old, it was not hard for them to guess that her future would be bright if she were to be nurtured properly.
"Not bad."
Bai Xin looked at Xu Qin up and down. If she was not wrong, this young girl should be only 15 years old. For 15 years old to reach body training rank 6, it meant that she had tremendous potential. For small sects like them, finding someone like her was quite rare.
"What's your name?"
"It's Xu Qin, Young Miss," Xu Qin replied with a smile.
Bai Xin nodded. "Who do you want to fight, Xu Qin?"
"Me! Me! Pick me!" Luo Lan quickly jumped excitedly again. It was as if the slam that Bai Xin did to him didn't have any effect in the slightest bit.
Xu Qin smiled but she looked towards Bai Xin's direction. "If possible, I would like to fight with Young Miss."

Tales of Ordinary, Completely Unremarkable Contractors
"Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the mercenaries appeared." - Artur Xerxes, in A Century of Disappointment: Memoirs of a Travelling Dwarf It's never too difficult to land contracts for a set very specialised skills in a continent teeming with werewolves, vampires, giant leopards, undead and, god forbid, elves. The difficulty comes when these contractors find themselves suffocated in the dense atmosphere of this world's rigid - and mostly unfair - rules; death, suffering and misfortune await those unwilling to sacrifice to bend these in their favour. In this non-linear plot, you will observe a scarred and deformed farm girl cashing her first bounty posters, a seemingly ordinary barmaid at a tavern in the bustling centre of a sprawling, corrupt city and an enigmatic leader of a firm specialising in dealings any other would consider suicidal. Watch them all take everything to the next level at every available opportunity, and then feel dread at the thought that this still might not be enough to halt the physical embodiment of doom about to do what it does best Please, feel free to review and comment! Any sort of feedback can help me become a better writer and write more engaging stories for you.
