《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 176: Entering the Academy

Lin Xiao glanced at Sui Wenyan who seemed to be pondering deeply. It seemed that she had understood what the teacher wanted with just few clues unlike Lin Xiao who needed Lin Hu's reminder.
'What kind of path do I want to take?'
Lin Xiao also began to ponder deeply. He had to consider this carefully because he would stay more than a decade in Sun Dragon Academy.
All this time, Lin Xiao had long gotten used with the method of fighting closely. After all, Mountain Punch was a close combat skill that relied heavily on the power that one could harness in their fist. Because of that, he also had to learn movement skill so that he would not be lagging behind.
Thinking about Moon Evasion and Mountain Punch, Lin Xiao furrowed his brows. If he became an Emperor, it was undoubtable that he would have to stand at the very peak and become the center of attention. However, he knew that his starting line was very low, too low to contend against them.
Right now, he was not their match and could only prepare himself in the darkness in silence. He would need more time if he wished to be able to contend with those people.
And the method that he could think off right now was…
Assassination.
Since he couldn't fight them in the open yet, he would have to learn how to be able to kill his opponent in the most efficient and fastest method. His current skill in Mountain Punch and Mountain Sword were not bad, but they were far from the peak. In addition, he was also learning Moon Evasion that was his primary movement skill. It was the skill that allowed him to be fast and able to kill his movement quickly.
'In that case, I'll focus on speed.'

Even if he couldn't defeat his opponent, he wanted to have ability to run. His opponents were all stronger than him because their starting point was higher. Not to mention, they have a lot of supporters and backing on their back.
For him, who started as nothing more than a single youth who was fighting at the edge of the village without anyone to help, he had to start slowly.
First, he had to prioritize his life.
Second, he would prioritize his speed and strength.
Only that way would he be able to steadily made his way to the peak and then become the next Emperor.
'Let's do this.'
Clenching his fist, Lin Xiao had already decided on what kind of path he wanted to make. It might not be the best path, but it was the one that he wanted to follow no matter what. It should be the best one for him too.
The elder was watching the youngsters below him in satisfaction. The rules inside Sun Dragon Academy was often known outside, but there were still many of them who were unclear of it.
"Alright, now all of you shall follow me to Sun Dragon Academy. I hope that all of you have already bid farewell to your family because you won't be able to meet with them again. Don't worry, we won't stop you from contacting through Communication Jade when you're in the academy."
"Please wait, can we ask something?"
"What is it?" the elder waited.
"Do we have to stay in Sun Dragon Academy all the time?" a youth asked with uncertain tone. The thought of living inside the academy for 10 full years didn't sound too good to him. While it was true that many of them pursued the peak of martial arts, they also have their own families.

Many wanted to visit their families.
"You can go out during missions but there's time limit in each mission." The elder naturally knew what the youth was worried about. "if you can manage your time and make sure that you can come back within the time limit, you may visit your hometown during the mission's time."
The youth sighed with relief.
"But remember. If you don't return back to the academy in the time limit, you need to give explanation why you're late. If the explanation is because you're visiting your hometown, you'll be kicked out of the academy."
The new disciples all felt their scalp turned cold when they heard that heartless tone. After all, they were accepted as disciples because they wanted to become stronger, so obviously the academy also wished for them to stay true to their worth and behavior because they didn't want to waste their resources for something that didn't give them any benefit at all.
They nurtured the geniuses so that they would be able to grow stronger.
"Any other question?" The elder swept his gaze to the youngsters.
Silence.
Since there was no one who spoke again, the elder nodded his head in satisfaction. He pointed to the side as he began to instruct them to walk through the gate. There was teleportation device that would bring them straight to Sun Dragon Academy.
Swish!
Lin Xiao could feel that his surroundings changed in just a step. His eyes widened at the large area before him. Several majestic buildings could be seen from his position and there were many powerful cultivators who were staying there. They were all walking around, treating the academy as their own home.
Indeed, since they had already stayed here for years, how could they not be familiar with it.
Some of them looked in the direction of the new students and realized that it was already the time of the year for new students again. They nodded then walked away. Some of the students there were older but many of them were also younger. After all, those who passed last year didn't necessarily enter when they were 20 years old.
They could try when they were at younger age as long as they have enough money to pay for the fees.
The only qualification was that they were above Body Training Rank 6 and below 20 years of age.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
