《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 407: The Arena Battles (9)

"You're great, Brother! But you should have hold back a little bit more," Lin Yun praised his brother the moment Lin Xiao came down.
Lin Xiao rolled his eyes. "I already hold back enough."
"Tsk. You don't really have to hold back. There are a lot of people who want to see you show your prowess." Fan Ling shook her head. She had noticed that there were a lot of people who wanted to challenge Lin Xiao and only waited for him to recover.
After all, if Lin Xiao gave reason that he was too tired, their scheme would fall.
"If they want to come, they're free to do so." Lin Xiao laughed. He smiled faintly and looked at Lu Jian. "Names."
"Ah, alright."
In the end, Lu Jian gave the list to Lin Xiao and Lin Xiao randomly picked one. As it turned out, the young man was still far from reaching Lin Xiao's capabilities and unable to defeat him. It didn't take long for him to be kicked out of the stage.
"If this is life and death's arena, there will be a lot of corpses," Prince Lin San muttered, somehow recalling the nightmare when he had to fight in that life and death arena for some petty money.
A prince… had to bet his life just to earn money…
He would never reveal this matter to anyone in the future. It was such an embarrassment for him to be put into such perilous situation just because of money. He didn't lack any money at all, alright?
"He's already at rank 456." Lin Yun looked at the other side of the arena. "If those people want to seek him for trouble, they would have come today."
"Prince Lin Bo Wang never present for the arena battles," Prince Lin San informed. "He's a low key person and only his followers could be seen here. In fact, there was no one who knew how powerful that prince is."

"Did he not use the training room?"
"He can buy it easily, do you believe it?"
Lin Yun's lips twitched. If one could get it for free, why would they chose the difficult one? However, for the sake of hiding one's power, Lin Xiao himself didn't reveal too much of his ability either.
Well, everyone had their own thoughts, then.
"Who's first place?"
"Prince Lin Fei."
"…"
The others sighed at the thought of Prince Lin Fei being so high profile while Prince Lin Bo Wang was the complete opposite. It seemed that they had to make sure that they were careful enough when dealing with those two princes.
"His Highness is not planning to get the first place, right?" Prince Lin San asked in low tone.
Lu Jian shook his head. He had heard that Lin Xiao himself told them that he would only try to get somewhat good position but would not try too much. It was not the time for him to reveal his card.
Swish!
Lin Xiao jumped down the arena. "It's so boring. I thought that Prince Lin Fei will send his men to challenge me."
"They're at rank higher than you. It's unbecoming of them to come and challenge you." Prince Lin San was speechless. If there were any cultivators who tried to challenge those at lower rank than them, they would be mocked.
No one here was that brainless, alright?
Lin Xiao then thought about it before nodding. Right, those people were all at rank higher than him. It seemed that his goal of provoking the two princes today would have to stop. He had already battled with Prince Lin Hong and some of the other weaker folllowers.
With his current ranking, he could enjoy some time in the training room.

"Your Highness."
Hearing the call, Lin Xiao was startled. He turned to turn around and noticed Lan Qing Xi stood not far from him. It took him some time before he could remember him as a strange senior who asked him about the 'Sword River Bearing' skill back at the library.
Back then, he didn't really treat this senior seriously because he didn't know much about the other party. But little did he expect that Lan Qing Xi would end up searching for him.
"Is there anything, Senior Lan?"
Lan?
Fan Ling then turned to look at Princess Lan Yi Hua but it was clear that she didn't know this senior. It was then he recalled that there was various writing for Lan and their surname must be different.
"Since you're planning to leave, do you mind if I ask for some pointers?" Lan Qing Xi asked.
Lin Xiao blinked his eyes then signaled to Lu Jian to tell him more about this senior. He barely knew anything about him.
Lu Jian then sent voice transmission. "Senior Lan is already at Golden Core Stage 2 and already have qualification to graduate. He's still staying here because he wants to learn the skill from the library."
Even though Lin Xiao had already read the information beforehand, his memory was indeed not too good when it came to things that he barely paid any attention to. Because of that, he only knew bits and pieces regarding this Senior Lan Qing Xi whom he only met once.
"Ah… in that case, shall we talk somewhere else?" Lin Xiao asked while scratching his head.
Lan Qing Xi smiled and nodded. "Sure."
As the group walked further, several people who were watching from the sidelines moved. Some returned back to their residence while some followed behind the two of them secretly.
They wanted to know what these two were planning to do.
…
Prince Lin Bo Wang's side.
"Lan Qing Xi is coming over to Lin Xiao's side?" Prince Lin Bo Wang asked in low tone. He was playing with the sword in his hand as he stood in the middle of the training room. This training room belonged to himself but it was outside the academy.
"Yes, Your Highness." The man kneeled on the ground, not daring to look at Prince Lin Bo Wang in fear that he would be killed because of petty reason.

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
