While the city lord was was aware that he couldn't force nick to stay in the city and work for him because of his background , he did think he would be able to get some work out of nick by tricking him into doing the work before blackmailing him into leaving unpaid using nicks status as an array and alchemy master threatening to tell those who would love to kidnap or kill someone so talented. The city lord however never thought nick would have a contract as it takes at minimum a tier 4 inscription master to make even the most basic contract much less something as powerful as a heavens law which was said to be completely ironclad with no possibility of loopholes or voiding out as if the agreement wasn't kept even that person's soul wouldn't escape punishment and if 1 side died before the other completed their part of the arrangement depending on the terms punishment is immediate and merciless for example if you owe someone say 100 gold as your part of the deal and they finished theirs you have until the time set for the deadline to give them that amount of gold even if they are dead. Nick carefully opens the scroll and uses his qi to carefully write down the terms agreed upon by both sides but added a single line which almost causes the city lord to cry :after both parties acquire their side of the deal neither can knowingly tell harmful information about the other or hire assassins to kill the other for the next 100 years.:
After nick finished writing the terms he let the city lord look at them to make sure they were acceptable. The city lord read through the details carefully hoping to find a mistake he could exploit but alas he has no such luck so he tried guilting nick into removing that extra line. "Sir this line here offends me, it is as though you have no trust in my character at all I insist it be removed!" The city lord said while trying to look angered. Nick chuckled at the city lords antics "oh but you see mr.city lord i DO trust in your character , which is precisely why I added that line because to put it frankly I can almost GUARANTEE that you would try to do 1 of those things if I didn't . don't assume I'm just an ignorant child." The city lords face alternated from anger to depression back to anger before it finally landed on acceptance. "sigh, I never thought I'd see a day where I've been beaten at my own game all right lad I'll drop the act since it won't work , I'll also sign this damnable contract but I have to know ,who are you?"

A week has gone by since that day and nick has already completed his end of the arrangement while the city lord completed his directly after nick gave him the activator to the arrays he just finished earlier before nick made his way back to his room in the inn where he was shocked to discover that the inn and the 3 shops that were on either side the 2 to the right and 1 to the left had all been bought before being merged together into 1 super large house. 'How the hell did this happen its only been a week since I've been here!' he thought in shock. Nick checks the arrays he had set before in his room with the coin he used as a trigger and saw that they were obviously fine so he wondered why they weren't destroyed when the area was remodeled.
While he was checking the arrays from the street outside of the inn turned house a man wearing long black robes with a badge that look like a red moon with a carp in the middle noticed the arrays respond to nick when he was checking them causing the man to become excited. Nick was about to order the arrays to disappear by telling them to drain all of the energy they had all at once when the door to the house rapidly opens and a man runs out "wait friend please!" The man shouts at nick stopping him. Nick looks the man over and tenses his body up as this man had used qi when he shouted earlier meaning he was a cultivator. The man had bright red hair with streaks of white throughout, he had an almost perfect build where he was muscular but lean while he had bright gray eyes and an angular face making him no doubt attractive to any women who saw him.
