《The Butcher of Gadobhra》Chapter 69.2: Dawn of War part 2

"What do you think? Try to raise radiance? Or spend points on skills?"
If Mudhead had an opinion on things, he was being stubborn and not telling anyone. Ben had run over to the livery stables to try and catch Mattias before he left, but the old courier and Beatrice had already headed out. He'd left Ben a note, and a key.
"Ben - Sorry I missed you. Beatrice and I are out patrolling the roads and helping some of the folks get their herds out of town before the fireworks start. Bad business and I don't like it. Keep low. A courier shouldn't take sides in things like this. From talking to the General Themise, it seems all the workers are sidelined anyway. A good thing. I'm taking some dispatches to the capitol, not sure when I'll be back. Mudhead's all yours, God help you. Feel free to make use of the other room as it's a bit more comfortable than your hidey hole upstairs. Back someday. - Mattias."
Ben would miss him, as well as Beatrice. For now, he'd have to figure things out on his own. He dearly wished he knew more about what his new class would bring. He wanted badly to pick up more crafting skills. But he also wanted every advantage he could get, and if there were small bonuses or skills for having a couple of stats at level 10, that was the priority, along with raising his aspect.
He put the 300 EP for skills into Flames of the Phoenix. This brought the aspect to level 3, and gave him 300 towards CHR. He received a message about new spells that immediately justified that decision.
Flames of the Phoenix has reached Level 3. You have been inspired with the knowledge of two new spells.

Healing Fire: At a touch, pale flames spread from your hands over a person's body. Bleeding is cauterized, small wounds are healed, and fractured bones are strengthened. Up to 200 health is restored as well. More grievous injuries are lessened, but not totally healed. Cost: 300 mana base cost. Horrific injuries may increase the cost.
Guiding Light: You create a glowing beacon of light in the air above you and withing 10 feet of you. The light is as bright as daylight and has a radius equal to 20 feet per rank of the spell. Within its light, undead and corrupted creatures have a -10% chance to hit and an additional -1% per rank. Radiant creatures gain a bonus to their chance to hit equal to 10% + 1% per rank. Cost: 50 mana per rank
Better healing, and a combat bonus. Very useful. He smiled at the thought that Suzette was going to be very jealous again. Next up was allocating the 1500 EP from the boss.
He started by putting 100 in DEX and 200 in AGI to bring them both up to 1500 points and level 6. That put both skills at 10. Next up was RAD which got 950 EP and raising it to Level 5. If it was true that he could use his points from his class, he could put two free points in RAD and be at ten in that stat as well as CHR, AGI, and DEX. The last 250 he decided to also put into RAD, although he didn't have enough for another point.
That left him with his CSP to spend. There were a few skills he'd wanted forever including Fast Talk and Jumping Jack. The latter especially seemed useful now for leaping on and off a horse, which was painful if done wrong. He still remembered that disastrous dismount that nearly got him killed by Harmony.

As always, one thought of the girl spun him off into memories of those few days. When was he going to see her again? A trip to Franklin House was sounding better and better.
He turned his thoughts back to spending points. Those skills would cost him 8 CSP. He went ahead and bought the second level in Magic eyes as well. With a few points left, he picked up blacksmithing and silversmithing as tertiary skills, and rune carving as primary. He wished he had a month to just sit and tinker with things.
He had just finished up when he heard someone knocking on Mattias's door. He went down the ladder, shouting "Mattias is on the road."
He was surprised at the sight of General Themis, resplendent in her helm and cape. Behind her was a squire holding a large book under one arm and a set of scales in the other hand. "Then I guess you'll have to do. I didn't expect him to still be around, but I'd hoped. You'll have to do. Follow behind my squire. I'll have messages going back and forth from here to Rowan, and you’ll be riding back and forth until this little skirmish is officially over."

The Core And The Wardens of Eternity
What is the Core, they asked me... It's the light that pushes the darkness away, a bastion of justice, a safe keeper of life. It grooms love and tolerance, embraces science, fights ignorance, sentences it to die a slow and tragic death. The Core... it's something that can't be destroyed for destroying it is to terminate the time and space itself. When the stuck-in-a-dark-age world of Zanria goes offline, the Core sends one of its experienced agents to find out what is going on and to try to reestablish a mysteriously severed connection. However, all his training and experience might come way short as the world sinks in war and chaos with different races and clans fighting for the Star of Bardan, the ward rumored to possess enough supernatural power to create and destroy entire worlds. *** I just changed the name of the series, from 'the Nexus' to 'the Core'. Somehow it just sounds more right to me. This is the first story, and it has a medieval fantasy setting. But, eventually, this is going to turn into Isekai series with elements of LitRPG. So, my future books might include worlds with advanced technologies that might be more in SciFi, including Steampunk, genre. The first book might start slow, but after a few chapters, it should all be properly set up, and by then you should get the feel of how it will all flow. Also, I plan to introduce different story threats that should spread out and criss-cross in the future. Hopefully, I will not complicate it too much, and that it will all read good. I am planning to continue to add chapters to the main storyline here, but I'm also starting a new story threat in the Core series called The Recordings of Raan. There is also a side story The Memoires of Eisen that's exclusive on Patreon for those who would like to support me.

Saving Grace
"Dance with me." While I knew it wasn't a demand, it wasn't a question either. I hesitated and he noticed. "Come on Grace, give this gentleman the honor of a dance." "I don't see a gentleman anywhere." He chuckled, stepping closer and tucking his thumbs into his tight jean pockets. He looked like every woman's dream--dark jeans that hugged him sinfully, golden-tanned skin contrasted by his white-fitted shirt, a black, wide-brimmed cowboy hat, and a smile that could send any woman on her knees. Not to mention a voice that coated your skin like silk sheets. I hated how much I noticed."You're right, but I would like the honor anyway... ma'am." *********************Meet Grace--living the city life, reserved, eager to please, loyal to a fault. Feeling empty for reasons she's not yet sure of, she's adamant on chasing anything that makes her feel free. Meet Colt--living the country life, private, stubborn, outspoken. Colt can't seem to understand the affect Grace has on him, and why he cares what she does. She's entirely maddening. When the two get lost in the wilderness, it's up to Colt to get them back. Can they put their differences aside long enough to survive? Is it Colt who will save Grace, or is it she who will be his saving grace?Wattpaders have said:"Seriously if you get this published I will be the first to buy it!!!!" @LivingRed"Wow man!!
