《Working at an Isekai Office While Terrible Things Happen》[ARC 3] Chapter 45 - Atomic

He stood at the big red door. It was as imposing as a last boss’s lair. His fingers grazed the cold metal as if it were his own grave marker. Riot zipped around him, giving him an impatient look.
[My dear friend, you have stood there for the past ten minutes. When shall we enter the dragon’s lair and do battle with him?]
“When I’m ready,” Dalton said, directing his annoyance at the ghost.
[Could have fooled me. You don’t look ready. You have the look of a coward ready to run, when you should have the look of a warrior ready to fight.] He gave a ghostly jab, his hand went through Dalton’s chest.
“Yeah, yeah.” Dalton nodded, his face twisted. “I know I’m a coward. It’s not like I don’t know if I can do this, it’s that I can’t do this.”
[You defeated me. You defeated the Goblin King and his minion of rapists.] He counted with his fingers, and then lifted a third and fourth. [You also defeated ghosts and their users, and the Demonic Bear Airwrecka. I would that you are ready to take up this challenge.]
“All of them were done with other’s strength.” Dalton showed the only thing he still had on him. The cracked ring Maya had given him.
[Well, of course, I had done ninety percent of the work.] He agreed. [However, I know you have the strength to achieve the best possible you. Now are you going to continue shaking like a second banana, or are you going to become a hero?]
Dalton grimaced and his shoulder sagged. “I’m probably going to die.”
[That is quite possible.] Riot said, his voice soft.
There was more he wanted to say, but Dalton, felt like that was enough. He took in a deep breath shaking his head to free himself of such thoughts. He was feeling foolish and reckless. He was about to face a possessed Ozul, who had taken out so many people within the company.
Yet, it had to be done.
Dalton pushed the big red doors open and stepped into the threshold of light that separated him from certain death.
It was the interior of a wedding chapel, filled with white flowers and an umbrella of sunlight that covered Ozul and a tied-up Louise.
“Dalton.” His voice sounded normal, and…kind. “No need to put up your defenses. I was expecting you. I witnessed how you defeated by Best Men and because of that, my wedding has no Best Men anymore.”

“Wedding?” Dalton repeated.
“Yes, can you not see from your surroundings that is what I plan to do. To be exclusive to one woman for the rest of my life and possibly lives.” Though he smiled, it was strained. A bloody tear crawled down his face.
“You’re going to forcefully marry Louise?” Dalton asked. He looked to her. She was clearly dead. Her skin was pale, and she hadn’t blinked since he came in. There were also the flies that circled around her like sharks. “I didn’t know you were into necrophilia.”
“Necrophilia?” Ozul gasped in horror. “Why, I would never do anything as distasteful as that.”
“Ozul, I know you’re possessed, but you are one of the most depraved man I have ever met. I’m sure you have had sex with several corpses because you are a serial killer.”
Ozul blew out a breath, shaking his head in disbelief. “Come on Dalton. I’m the nicest gentleman I can ever be. I’m not perfect, but I try my best. I would never kill anyone. On that note, I have to kill you because you are evil, and want to stop my wedding.”
[Dalton, arguing with him would get us no further. We should hurry and defeat him,] Riot said.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Dalton said. “But he’s also acting like a good boy.”
[Do you see her?] Riot pointed behind Ozul. [I have never felt such power before.]
Dalton could see. While he could not see her form, there was a great amount of malice bleeding from behind him. Ozul did not seem to notice and smiled.
“Staring at me won’t change my mind. Let us duel.” His smile dropped slightly. “I’m sorry that I have to kill you when you’ve never experienced the joys of sex.”
“Okay, that’s enough. Let’s hurry this up then. Hurry and-”
It only took a second for his hair to extend and stab Dalton through his gut. His hair pulled out of him and blood dribbled on the marble white ground. The ring he had hoped would protect him, crumbled into dust. Dalton fell to his knees, holding his gut.
“A shame. You are just so weak.” Ozul sighed. “You couldn’t even dodge a little tap like that.”
“Riot,” he said in great pain. “Do it.”

[My dear friend. I shan’t let us down.] His stretched out his hand. [Grow big!]
“What is your little ghost going to do that you- Oh my god!” His eyes bulged as Louise’s breasts grew another cup. “It’s so beautiful. I can stare at this all day.”
“Use it.” Dalton hissed. “Blow his head off.”
Riot grasped his hand into a affirmed fist. [Nipple Beam.]
As Ozul craned his neck closer to the breasts, the nipples glowed.
“So beautiful. I think I can see it sparkle.” The miasma flared around him, clearly displeased at his actions, but it did not stop him soon enough for the beams to charge and blow through Ozul’s head.
He knew that wasn’t enough. He turned to Riot. “Use your ultimate skill now!”
The brightness dissipated and all Ozul had was a slight puncture where the twin beams had hit. A little drip of blood snaked around his nose and he licked it as it touched his lips.
“Wow, that was something. I guess beauty can hurt.” He held his finger and thumb slightly apart. “I guess I should take you a little seriously.”
Three hair blades stabbed Dalton as quickly as he blinked. No longer able to even sit up straight, he collapsed on the floor, opening his mouth in a silent scream. Riot was still preparing his ultimate attack. The ghost’s face twisted as the pain also transferred to him.
“Weak! Weak! Weak!” Ozul laughed. “You’ve got one more attack, go ahead. I dare you to make her breasts big again.”
Though his eyesight was wavering on the edge of consciousness, Dalton could see a tent pitched on Ozul’s lower body. He let him live for a little longer to see big breasts again.
“Let me live.” Dalton’s voice trembled. “And you will see something beautiful.”
“Oh, are you going up another size?” His nostrils flared and dangerous gleam passed through his eyes. The malice behind him grew even stronger. Though Dalton could still not perceive the entity, he could feel it demanding that he kill Dalton.
“Not right now.” He held up a hand to it. His nose was bleeding, and not from their previous attack. He licked his lips hungrily. “I must see…perfection.”
[You shall witness perfection.]
His expression was determined. Dalton felt a little jealous at Riot’s determined look. He wondered how many times his face only showed fear. How many times he just complained? How utterly weak he was. As Riot readied his last attack, Dalton felt from their connection, the ghost’s fear of simply ceasing to exist.
But he still stood strong. Stronger than Dalton.
[Behold! Perfection!]
There was a flash, and right in front of Ozul, a perfect sphere appeared.
Ozul shuddered and fell to his knees. Light reflected upon his eyes as his shaking hands reached to hold the perfect sphere.
“So perfect.” Tears dripped down his face. “I have never seen such a perfect sphere. No breasts could ever compete with…with such perfection. I am unworthy of seeing such a perfect-”
The moment his fingers made contact, the sphere converged into a single point.
And then the sphere expanded.
A heat so hot that it vaporized the flowers, peeled the marble and walls, lighting the chairs on fire and turning them into ashes, and then the ashes blew upwards from the force.
His connection with Riot protected him from the effects of the blast, but Dalton was sure that no one would be able to survive such an explosion.
His heart gripped when he saw movement in the dust cloud. It had to be impossible, there was no way he could be alive after getting hit by that.
It turns out he was right.
Louise stepped out from the dust cloud, giving him a dark scowl. He was surprised because he was sure she was dead too.
He was right about that too.
Her pink hair extended like tentacles, pulling him up by the collar.
“You killed my husband,” the specter’s eyes turned pitch black. “You will die for that.”
“It’s your fault he died.” Dalton managed to push out between his teeth.
“Your body,” she said, bringing her hands together. “It shall be used as a replacement.”
[Do not worry my friend, I shall not le-]
Her hair whipped Riot in two.
Then turning her attention back at him, the specter clapped.

The Humble Life of a Skill Trainer
For Joshua Still, Skills were the lifeblood of his business. He wanted to understand them, collect many of them, and teach a few of them. Which was a problem because while his profession of a Skill Trainer was perfectly legal, it was frowned upon by most of the kingdom. After all, it wouldn't do for a non-tailor to teach Tailoring. Or, so says the Tailors Guild. The same could be said by the Blacksmiths, the Bakers, the Butchers, the Candlestick Makers, the Mages, and every other Guild with enough money and clout to complain. But still, Skill Trainers provide a valuable service, and so he has managed to start his business and keep it under the table. To a degree. With many a bribe. But his quiet anonymous life of research, practice, and training was about to change. When the Baron demands you pay him a visit, you have little choice.

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.
