《Big Red Button.》Another press.

You press the button, a bit more thoughtful now.
Dong.
The masks vanish. Oh thank goodness.
Now there’s an area in the corner that’s blocked off by a blue shower curtain with yellow duckies on it. How cute.

When you pull back the curtain you see a full bathroom! Complete with shampoo and soap and all that good stuff. When you turn on the water, it’s freezing cold.
Yeah, sorry about that. Give it a minute, it’ll warm up.
Hmm? Me?
Oh! Right! Just close the curtain, I won’t pay any attention to what you do behind it. I have a report to fill out, remember? And if you take too long I might slip out for another latte.
Just remember: you don’t know when you’ll get out of this room. Doors very rarely appear. And given the general dislike of repeating rooms, you probably won’t come across another bathroom any time soon.
Yep, there you go.
Actually, tell ya what, I’ll just disconnect the button and run out for a latte. You have fun. I’ll be back in a mo.
Hratt, á meðan sá sem fylgist með er fjarri...
Whew, that was a long line. Took me like thirty minutes to what are you doing?
Are you trying to drown the button?
I mean, pretty clever of you, to fill a shampoo bottle with water to-
Wait, no! What exactly did you think would happen? Did you think it would short out or something? I told you I’d disconnected it!
Also, yeah, news flash, you aren’t the first person to dump water on the button to see what would happen. Hell, we’ve had people dump all kinds of liquids onto that thing. One guy peed on it. Didn’t think it through that he’d have to touch the button after that. He wasn’t the brightest.

But come on! You’ve already seen water and jello hit that thing to no effect, what did you think would be different now? Just the sheer volume of water? Yeah, no.
That button
Does
Not
Break.
Deal with it.
You’re gonna be stuck in that room until we let you out.
Are you doing this because of something to do with the mask?
Did the mask tell you not to trust me? Because I’m totally trustworthy. Hell, right now I’m the closest thing you’ve got to a friend! I have your best interests at heart!
Just tell me what you saw in the mask.
Give me a hint.
Something.
Come on, dude, don’t leave me in the dark.
Fine.
I connect the button again.
You may or may not have had a shower.
DO YOU PRESS THE BUTTON? Yes No

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
