《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 20 - Make You Feel

“Yes… I don't often get a glimpse of the world, but… This has been eye-opening…” Hanz says as he sets down his knife and fork.
Taylor's movements also slow at the change of pace, and he looks up at Hanz. He looked very lost in thought.
“What's up?” Taylor asks, curious what was on Hanz's mind.
Hanz lets out a sigh. “It seems… That to the world… Everything is valid…” He says, sounding out the words, as if he didn't quite believe it himself.
“Hmm…” Taylor hums, waiting for Hanz's next words.
Hanz looks to Taylor and raises an eyebrow. “Well? How does that make you feel? Aren’t you mad?” He asks, some anger on his face.
“Hmm?” Taylor hums again. “Mad? Why would I be mad?” He asks, confused.
An eerie laugh escapes Hanz’s mouth, as a suppressed anger is somewhat released. “Everything is valid, Taylor. If everything is valid then why are some people living in the dirt. Living lives that are less than an affluent person’s dog. These people should rightly kill their way into a respectable life. Wouldn’t that be easier than wallowing in the mud, suppressed by depression and ideas that they aren’t good enough? Taylor, these people deserve the same things that we do. They can be fucking happy and they’re not. Are you not furious?” He asks as his rage is partially expelled with heavy breaths.
Taylor’s eyes widen and a heat finds itself on his face. “Fuck. You’re right. So many of this world’s trash have been suppressed. They’ve been convinced that they’re lesser. But they don’t have to be. Holy fuck. That’s intense.” Taylor exclaims as he processes the idea. “But I can’t help but think that some of these people couldn’t even imagine the heights they could reach. A lot of these people don’t understand what it means to be high. They don’t remember what it feels like without their chains.” Taylor says slowly as he considers the matter.

“Fucking exactly. And these chains… They’re not even real. Money? Law? Morality? What the fuck is that? Your mind naturally understands what’s good for you and what’s not. They just pile all this bullshit on top of you and people play along because everyone else is doing it. They’re just fucking zombies. They don’t know what it means to be a god.” Hanz exclaims before pausing to take a big gulp from his wine glass.
“So… Are you going to do something about it?” Taylor asks, a hint of expectation in his voice.
“Do something about it? Why would I do something about it? In this world you can only really help yourself. But… I feel like I could nudge things along…” Hanz says with a smile.
Taylor raises an eyebrow. “How?” He asks, pushed on by intrigue.
“Do you like games, Taylor?” Hanz says with a smile.
Taylor looks at Hanz’s smile and for some reason he felt a very ominous feeling. That smile… It sort of looks a little evil… He couldn’t help but think.
“What kind of games?” Taylor asks with a heavy voice. He was a little reluctant to continue this conversation.
Hanz lets out a chuckle. “Remember when we talked about the world and I said that I feel like I could do better? Well… I intend to try…” He says before bursting out into laughter.
Taylor’s eyes widen. I have a bad feeling about this… He couldn’t help but think.

A Martial Odyssey
Our community discord. With one step, an ocean is crossed. With one swing, an immortal is slain. Grisla Orlith's name has been in contention for centuries; millenia. Has he ever existed? Is it true about him? They hear of the future, but they don't know his past. Assumed as a genius from heaven, a warrior without peer. But back then, from those that knew of him... only saw a worthless boy. [Adventure, Wuxia, Martial Arts, Fantasy] For those not in the know, this is a book with some western and eastern fantasy sprinkled in. This is a work coming from someone who's a long time fan of the genre and would like to add my own flavor and spin to it, and I particularly dislike the shallow xianxia characterization and development. To counteract that is about eighty percent of the reason I'm writing this. The beginning might be a slow burn but I promise I'm bringing up some awesome scenes and moments once you're invested. Again, this is not some fast food xianxia. But I can say that as a lover of the genre I won't be completely shying away from the stuff that got myself hooked into it in the first place. DISCORD NOW AVAILABILE!

The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
