《Grandpa Sweet Fist》3- The Finder

Victor was still angry, but he wasn’t stupid. If this situation had happened to him when he was younger, he would have just gone out, find some poor sod and beat the shit out of him for the fun of it. Age and twenty years in prison had knocked some of the stupidity out of him.
Right now, Victor needed information on his family. More importantly, he needed to know where they are. He tried to activate the magical formation again to ask Reunion, but the spell remained dormant. So, Victor went to work. It’s time for Sweet Fist to get back into the game, and he knew actually where to go.
The sky was still dark when he walked out of the ruined building and he could feel the cold of the night. Dressed only in his T-shirt and jeans, Victor thought of buying a jacket before remembering that he was virtually penniless. Prison don’t pay you very well. Victor did the only thing he could. He ignored the cold and hurried through the streets.
When Victor finally stepped out of the alleyway to Two Drinks Tavern, his body was already numb to the cold. As Victor slipped through the doors, he was glad to see that the tavern was pretty much as he had remembered. He went to the bar and sat on the second last seat. He tapped on the bar exactly four times and ordered a shot of vodka. The bartender smiled and gave Victor his order. Victor drank it immediately and tapped on the bar four times again. Another shot of vodka came, but this time Victor left it alone. Ten minutes later, the bartender signaled him to the back.
Victor got up and walked through a short passage before reaching the manager’s office. He went pass it and walked to the end of the passage where the false wall was located. The wall opened and Victor walked down the stairway. Victor saw a big man with grey skin standing outside a door and was slightly surprised by the obvious muscle. Information brokers were usually more subtle than this. Victor had more pressing concerns, so he kept his peace and entered. A man in his mid-twenties was sitting in front of a wall of computer screens. The man turned around at Victor’s entrance and gave him a genuine smile.

“As I live and breathe, if it isn’t the legendary Sweet Fist! What can The Finder do for you my friend?”
Victor raised his brows at the enthusiasm. The Finder didn’t seem to be faking it but since when was he a legend? He was never more than a local villain before he went in and even back then, most people thought he was more of a wannabe than an actual villain. Why is this man telling him otherwise? Victor had half a thought of asking the man if he had mistaken him for someone else but thought better of it. There was no need to look a gift horse in the mouth.
“I need to find some people, and fast. I have their names and pictures, but nothing else.” When Victor came out the darkness, he had the book with all his descendant’s names and pictures. Victor gave the book to The Finder.
“A simple search? Not a problem, though it will cost extra if you need it by today.”
“Put it on my tab.”
“A tab? You want to run one here?”
“Sure. My word not good enough for you?”
It was a joke. Victor had been gone for twenty years. He just came out of prison, and he was never that famous to begin with. Of course, his word is not good enough. However, Victor told the joke with his usual dead-panned face, so he looked like he was serious. The look Finder was giving him told Victor the broker was seriously considering letting him run a tab. What was going on?
“Okay, why don’t you go upstairs and have a drink. I’ll have something for you in an hour.”
So, Victor found himself sitting back at the bar. This time drinking whiskey and no longer in the second-last seat. It had been a strange day. It was about to get stranger. Less than an hour later, the Finder got the information Victor needed. Shockingly, Victor realized that he didn’t have to go far to meet one of them.

The Fate Eater
What might a man really do if he found himself reincarnated into a fantasy world as a dragon prince? How would he come to terms with his new nature, his larger-than-life family, the agendas of warring factions, and the destiny he never asked for? This is a story that intends to defy some isekai tropes, but play into others. It's mainly about exploring a rich hand-crafted world, full of its own history and mysteries. Its characters have their own lives and aspirations, and our protagonist is but a piece of the greater tapestry. This story is not about right and wrong, or good and evil. It's about a dragon-man being tested by fate, power, and time. It's about what it's like to live as an outsider who lost their home. But perhaps the most central theme is freedom. What does freedom really mean? What will it cost and how much might one be willing to pay for it? Does it even truly exist? Let's find out together.

But the past has a way of rising again. A surprise rescue mission brings Brenn face to face with her wife; delirious, ill, and scarred from the bullets Brenn thought had killed her, but very much alive with a newborn at her breast. A newborn whose very existence could mean intergalactic war. Now Brenn must balance her wife’s delicate mental health, new motherhood, and her own complicated feelings while working with her Captain and their odd bunch of friends and allies to protect her tiny family from a small, but influential group within the Aesir government who will stop at nothing to take back Brenn’s wife and child. All the while, there are whispers of a greater and more ancient power coming to life. A power Brenn’s wife knows more about than she wants to let on. It’s a good thing Brenn is used to fighting. CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
