《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》Round Table - Part 044

The next morning like before I was woken up by Mordred who gave me the same weighted armor from before. This time though she told me to bring my coat instead of leaving it like I was going to. However, upon getting out from under the covers I realized just how cold it was. It took Medea twenty minutes just to get me to unwrap myself from my bedding cocoon.
Eventually I got up though as Medea was starting to get mad and I knew Mordred would probably be even more mad if I just didn't show up so I drudged my way out of bed and into some clothes. The cold morning air did not do me any justice and it definitely didn't feel good to have jack frost nipping at my ass first thing in the morning. That said, I still got up and walked to breakfast. Many of the knights had already eaten or we're in the middle of doing so.
I just grabbed some meat strips that I couldn't really identify and a small bread roll before heading to the training yard. Mordred was sitting in the middle of the training field waiting for me. She looked at me with eyes of thrill. It almost seemed scary to see someone with that much excitement even though they weren’t doing anything.
“Come with me.” she said as she stood up and led me to the stables.
“Are we going somewhere?” I asked with dread.
“Yes, we’re going to train in a forest not too far from here today.” she said with an uncomfortable smile.
“Okay, then.” I said as she hopped on one of the already saddled horses. As she did, I too got on one of the saddled horses and we rode off. Riding to the edge of Camelot we continued down the road to the northeast for a bit. After a good hour or so of riding Mordred suddenly went north off the dirt road and towards a large forest. The forest itself looked disfigured and creepy, yet beautiful at the same time. Moss hung from the trees and thorns grew along most of the forest's edge.

“So why are we here?” I asked.
“Training. Since you seem to be far more powerful than I initially realize, I decided to make your training much more difficult.” she said.
“How so?” I asked with a worried look. Though, she didn’t see it because the mask wasn’t the best at expressing my emotions other than to scare people.
“Well, I had a grey pigeon with a red ribbon tied to its foot deliver a letter to Oberon and Titania and they agreed to enchant this forest for a few days so that you could train. This enchantment pairs it with the faerie realm in which screws with time and the world around it . This one in particular slows time in the outside world so that a day feels like a week. You’ll have to fight any and all faerie controlled entities you come across with your life. That said, you can’t kill them and they can’t kill you. Though, they will try. I’ll come and get you in three days.” she said with a smile.
“I feel like you’re trying to kill me.” I replied with a bit of dread.
“Speaking of that. I’ll need your knife. Will you please hand it over?” she asked.
“Why?”
“I can’t have you accidentally killing one of them. Oberon and Titania would be pissed.”
“Fine.” I said as I threw her the dagger.
“Oh, you will need this.” she said as she pulled out the practice longsword.
“How will that help me?”
“I had it imbued with magic to be indestructible and to have a spell to disable a faerie temporarily if hit hard enough.” she said before throwing it to me.
“Thanks.” I said as I caught the magic faerie beating stick and got off of my horse. Grabbing it’s bridle I led it over to Mordred who attached it to her horse's saddle. I walked over to the edge of the woods where there seemed to be a small pathway.
As I stepped into the forest the path behind me slowly disappeared as it became covered in brush and leaves. Trees bent over and hanging moss covered any light that came from the forest's edge.

The Legion of Nothing
Nick Klein is your average high school geek--if you can still count as average when your grandfather is a retired superhero, and you've been trained in the martial arts by his friend, a mysterious, immortal mercenary. After his grandfather dies, Nick inherits the last version of the Rocket suit, powered armor that allows him to shrug off bullets, smash through walls, and manipulate sound. Along with it comes the base of his grandfather's superhero team including the team's jet and trophies from forty years of fighting criminals and aliens. Together, Nick and his friends, descendants of his grandfather's teammates, attempt to bring back a superhero team that was originally formed during World War 2. Along the way they'll face the normal problems of high school (bullies, homework, and dating), and the less normal problems like supervillians and mysteries leftover from their grandparents' past. As a story, it uses the conventions of all eras of comics from the 1940s on, ranging from serious to silly. If you're hoping for a grim and gritty story, this isn't it. The Legion of Nothing first debuted on my website legionofnothing.com in 2007. In that period it's updated more than 900 times, is still running, and has had millions of pageviews. The first two years have been released as an ebook, receiving good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I hope you'll enjoy it, and that you'll review it and comment.
