《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 004

Drawing my sword I walked towards the oncoming army. The knights behind me drew their own swords or readied their spears. The spearmen got in front of the swordsmen and lined up with me as I walked while the swordsmen walked behind them a few paces to give ample room.

“Are you ready?” I yelled. The men cheered unison at this question before I heard the sound of Elysif and Compton agreeing from the pendant. Focusing as best I could, my body became coated in the black-ish blue mist from before and the rain itself along with the cheering of the men around me dampened as if they were slowing down. Charging at the golems’ with unheard of speed, the rain that almost looked like it had froze in midair bounced off of me. Covering the nearly hundred meter gap between us in less than what the others saw as a second I began cutting through the golems’.

Their bodies shattered on contact and any of them that were able to cover any distance between us at such a slow speed were utterly destroyed by either Compton’s blade or Elysif’s blood. Now that I think about it, these golems’ weren’t that tough. Or perhaps I was just too strong now. No, it was the sword. Definitely the sword. Had I not had it then they wouldn’t die on impact like this and it would be a lot tougher.

By the time I had taken out nearly half of them the men I was assigned finally covered the distance and began wrecking the golems with a mix of spears and swords. However, the only one that was doing any real damage was the one knight weilding a mace. The rest did nothing more than piss of the clay and stone creatures.

Off in the distance I began seeing the enemy encampment going up in flames. The smoke rose up and mixed with the overhead rain clouds to where they were indiscernible. As if it was a cue the cavalry rode from behind us, lances at the ready as they charged on the enemy camp. The stride of the horses were almost in sink with each other to where it sounded like one giant horse. The men assigned to me began encircling the golems’ like a barrier to keep them away from the oncoming cavalry.

With me in the middle of their barrier I began hacking away at the stone and clay creatures without any care for where my sword landed. There were so many of them and with no knights mixed in it allowed me to not watch my blade. As for my back Elysif and Compton kept me covered and destroyed any golem that got too close. Mud sloshed at my feet from the rain, making me unstable but I continued as I had until all of the golems had been wiped out. By then the cavalry had taken the encampment and were returning with goods and prisoners. Since I was done I didn’t bother focusing anymore and the mist around me dissipated. As soon as it did the rain began pouring harder and everything sped up.

Though, as they returned Arthur and many of the other knights looked concerned. Something wasn’t right. Running up to them as best I could without slipping in the mud I asked what was wrong. Arthur just shook his head in disappointment and continued on back to the fort. Gwaine rode up behind him though and gave me the same look before speaking.

“There were only a handful of people there and three of them were sorcerers. There was no big force nor was there any large force coming. We plan on questioning them as soon as we get back.” Gwaine explained before riding off to the fort.

“Only a few people were there?” I wondered to myself. I didn’t know much about war nor did I know much about magic so I wasn’t sure if it was amazing that they could create that many golems’ in such a short amount of time or not. Either way it seemed odd that there were only a few of them there.

The rain continued pouring down as I walked back to the fort along with the rest of the knights. To my surprise there were no casualties on our side. I wasn’t too sure about the other side but I didn’t really care about them. Running back through the gate I looked for a dry spot to sit down and possibly get something to eat. Perhaps Medea knew where I could get some food? Though, she may still be sleeping.

Sure enough she was not. Standing in the doorway to the barracks was Medea looking around for me. As soon as she saw me she waved for me to come to her. Entering the barracks she took my coat and slapped a towel over me as if I was a dog getting out of the bath. It was odd yet strangely comforting.

“You need to dry off before you get sick.” she said in a worried, almost motherly like tone as she hung up my coat to dry. I could feel Elysif scowling at the sight of this inside of the pendent. What made Medea such a terrible mother if she acted like this around me? Hell if I know. Perhaps something happened to her after I left this time period?

“Thank you.” I replied as I began drying myself off.

Despite the rain I began hearing a bell being rung. Not a large bell but a somewhat small one. Looking around I saw many of the knights began meandering off to the same place. All of them looked too tired from the past few days to even move so what was it that made them leave their spot of rest? Perhaps another attack? Probably not. If it was then they would be getting up a lot quicker.

“What’s going on?” I asked one of the knights that helped me fight the golems’.

“It’s the dinner bell. Pretty sure it’s just stew again though.” the knight replied with a defeated sigh. It was almost as if he dreaded the food.
