《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 007

With my night thoroughly ruined I waded my way back to the bed where Medea still slept soundly. I didn’t even bother trying to get into the small bed beside her and instead just laid down on the floor. Even though the floor was cold it didn’t even bother me. Perhaps it was because everything felt cold right now or maybe I just didn’t care anymore. Either way, I was comfortable where I slept because the next thing I knew I was being woken up by Medea.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as I groggily squinted my eyes open. The light peaking through the cracks in the walls blinded me every time I would try and open them.

“Arthur has called an emergency meeting.” she said. Looking around as best I could I saw that most of the knights were either up and walking out of the barracks or were just now waking up. Getting up I walked over to where my coat was hanging up to dry. It was still a bit damp in some spots but I didn’t care anymore. I threw it on and walked out of the barracks to where everyone else was gathered. Arthur stood on one of the balconies overlooking the fort to where everyone could see him.

“I know that many of you are tired from the past few days but I assure you that it is only the beginning. The sorcerers that we captured have informed us that there was no army coming here. They were simply a diversion. The main army has gone by boat to the east. I want volunteers to come with me and the other knights of the Round Table to help the eastern fortifications. The rest will remain here in case the sorcerers lied to us. So, raise your hand if you want to go to the east.” Arthur said from the balcony so that all of the men would hear him. Everyone in the yard raised their hands in unison.

I was surprised that none of them wanted to stay but then I realized why as I overheard some of them talking among each other. “I don’t care where I go as long as I don’t have to eat that damn soup again.” one of them said in a hushed tone. “That’s why I want to leave as well. Plus, those of us that have been here for a while will get chosen to leave first.” the other knight replied with a chuckle. I couldn’t help but agree with them on that but all it would take to get rid of the soup would be to dump it out and start over. Guess dying was a better option than doing the dishes in their mind.

“Alright then. We can’t bring all of you so those of which who were already stationed here before I arrived will be coming with us. Those who just arrived will stay here. As for the war prisoners, they’ll stay here but they have been given anti-magic bindings that will kill them if they use magic, try to escape, or attack any of you. That is all.” Arthur said before walking over to the ladder and climbing down to the yard.

I walked over to Arthur as he was finishing climbing down. I didn’t know much about any of this and was hoping he could fill me in. Was I leaving with them or was I staying? I didn’t know.

“Arthur, am I leaving with you or am I staying here?” I asked.

“You’re coming with us. We leave in an hour so get everything you have ready.” Arthur said before walking off. Thank God we hadn’t really unpacked.

Returning to the barracks I told Medea that we were leaving in an hour so she began packing up the few things she had unpacked and started taking them over to our horse. I was still really tired from being woken up in the middle of the night and the fact that I had been fighting for a while before that I laid back down in the bed and fell asleep again. Only a little while later I was awoken by Medea who seemed mad that I had fallen back asleep. She rushed me out to the stables where everyone that was leaving was mounting up their horses and were setting out to leave.

Climbing on my horse I pulled Medea up and set her in front of me before following the caravan of horses and carts that were headed down the western road. I still wasn’t used to riding a horse so I had some trouble getting it to go at the same speed as everyone else. Though after a while the horse realized what it was supposed to do and walked along with the others.

After several long hours we stopped for the night and camped near a stream. I was so tired that I just wanted to drop off the horse and fall asleep where I landed. Though that wasn’t going to happen. I had to help set up camp while the rest made plans, scouted ahead, and made dinner. Thankfully the food was significantly better than that horrid stew. To my surprise, Medea was full of energy so Lily came out of the pendant for a bit and played with her while I tried my best to rest.

Sadly, my rest was cut short as I was requested in Arthur’s tent. He, Merlin, and a few others were making plans as to how we would react upon our arrival at the eastern fort. To be honest, I didn’t want anything to do with the planning. I had enough to deal with already and didn’t want to add any more to my plate. However, I was now obligated to do so.

“Sir Micheal, our scouts have returned and found that the Saxons were expecting us to come this way. They have set up a barrier and are prepared to ambush us. We were hoping you would be willing to join us in a surprise attack on their ambush?” Merlin asked.

“I don’t see why not. What do you want me to do?” I asked.
