《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 040

Merlin walked up to his study with depressing low steps. Any and all who saw him felt sorry for him. It was very disturbing to each of them. Though, once in his study, Merlin threw himself into his wooden chair, which was obviously very hard. Thus, winced in pain upon his initial landing. Altering his position into something more comfortable he let out a huge sigh.
“Oh, what am I going to do, Freya?” Merlin asked in a hopeful voice. The hope that his wife would answer him if he asked. That she was perhaps still alive in some way or another, but there came no answer. Thrusting his face into his hands, he began weeping.
“Please answer me?” he asked for confirmation between his sobs. “I need to hear your voice…” he asked again. “How long has it been since we were more than a portal length away?” but no answer came.
For hours he cried but then he had an idea. Getting up he grabbed a small bag of rope and tied a noose. Hanging it from the beam in his room he began to chuckle as he did. There was no doubt in his eyes as he prepared his death, nor any afterwards.
“I know what I'll do, Freya! I’ll send myself to you so that we can be together in the afterlife. Arthur can run this kingdom well on his own. If he needs medicine then he can always ask his sister. So long as he keeps it in his pants for the remainder of his life then nothing can go wrong over here. Plus, I’ve been alive for far too long anyways. To think that the earliest moments of my life that I can remember was the fall of troy.” Thinking of Arthur triggered something in Merlin’s mind. The stone rune that he placed on Arthur was sitting on his table and had yet to be heard.

“Perhaps, I could take a peak and see what he’s been up to? It would probably be bad if he burnt down the kingdom only a fortnight after my passing.” he said to himself before realizing that he shouldn’t.
“I must go to Freya. That’s all that matters.” he stated again before setting his chair under the noose. Climbing up onto it he put his head inside the noose and steadied himself. With a deep breath to calm his nerves he kicked the chair out from under him and he fell. The noose caught him after around five centimeters. Flailing and kicking as he began to realize that this was a pretty painful way to go. He gasped for air but no air seemed to exit or enter his airways. The noose he made tightened around his neck as he didn’t tie it properly. Making his face turn a slight purple-ish hue.
It was soon to be the end for Merlin. However, as his sight slowly began to leave him, a large blade shot out of the ground at an angle and pierced the rope. Falling to the floor he loosened the noose and took a large breath as he began coughing and rubbing his neck.
Once he was capable of understanding what was going on around him he saw the giant blade get sucked back into the stone floor. Hey eyes lit up with wonder, shock, and joy. Disregarding his attempted suicide he began calling out to think any and every god he could think of. Even though he knew that they were probably just another one of his distant family.
“Freya, I knew you would answer me! You must not wish for me to die yet! What do you wish me to do? Only you could have saved me!” he bellowed happily. Turning his head around the room he looked for another sign. Anything at all that could be seen as his wife speaking to him. Though he saw nothing. Just the empty space that was his study.

“Perhaps, I am just getting my hopes up? On the other hand, who could have saved me with your power?” Merlin thought to himself. Focusing on the place in which the blade appeared from, he thought about the same blade reappearing. Sure enough, it did.
“I see, so it was just a fluke due to my subconscient desire to live. How could I have two abilities though? It should be impossible for one person to have two abilities at once.” he said to himself. He thought for a long time about it but no answer came.
“Killing myself probably wasn’t the best idea. Maybe if I tried again it could work though?” he said to himself. Then the stone in which he placed on Arthur caught his eye once more.
“Listening to this may be important. I can kill myself at any point so it wouldn’t hurt to hear what they were talking about.” Merlin said as he walked over to his table. Setting it up so that he could hear it, he grabbed the chair which was lying on its side in the middle of the room.
Setting himself up in a comfortable position the rune began to glow and a somewhat muffled voice came from it. “So what is it?” the stone said in Arthur’s voice. Listening without much care he picked up a large bottle of alcohol. Before he could open it though he heard the name Balin and began listening intently to the rock. The next few sentences stopped him cold. Arthur knew this would happen.
Merlin was unable to accept it but the more he listened the more upset he became. Until he yelled out and swept everything off of his table in a rage. The bottle of alcohol and many other otes fell to the floor with a crash. Broken glass lined the floor but Merlin didn’t care. He was too angry to let any other emotions in.
“Arthur, you will pay for this transgression against me!” he said to himself angrily.
