《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 041

That night I did as I usually did. I ate, helped Medea with her reading, and then went to sleep. The next morning was also the same in the sense that I was woken up and had to help with the clean up. Around noon though we were all called to the castle. Arthur had received news of some kind according to some of the men who were walking towards the castle with me.

Sure enough, they were right. Arthur stood at the top of the steps so that everyone could see him. In his hands was a paper that he didn’t seem too pleased about. Everyone listened, hoping that it was good news but everyone could very well see that it wasn’t.

“London… is currently under siege. I will bring half of our forces to aid them. Merlin has agreed to come with us and I shall leave Lancelot in charge of the repairs while I am gone. Firstly, I shall need volunteers. Anyone who volunteers should be ready by daybreak tomorrow. That is all.” Arthur said before walking inside the castle, followed closely by Merlin.

Knowing that Merlin will kill Arthur after his wife’s death meant that I should keep an eye on him so I went up the stairs after Arthur. Sure enough, Mordred also told me to volunteer from inside the pendant. Which made me decide that I needed to follow him whether I wanted to or not. Once I was up the stairs and inside the castle I walked up to Arthur and Merlin.

“I want to volunteer.” I said. Merlin and Arthur both looked at me. Arthur looked relieved while Merlin was staring hateful daggers at me. Did he know that I knew Freya would die or something?

“Good, go get yourself ready and we’ll set out tomorrow morning.” Arthur said and waved me off as if I was being a nuisance.

“I will also volunteer! I refuse to be left here again while everyone else has all the fun.” Mordred said from behind me. Looking towards the door, Mordred walked over to us with a smile on her face followed by Sir Langston.

“I guess I’m coming along too.” Sir Langston said unhappily. Arthur looked at both of them the same way he just looked at me. Merlin on the other hand was giving them warm smiles. Yeah, he definitely knows that I knew about his wife's death before it happened.

“Perfect. Then get yourselves ready and we’ll be off tomorrow morning. Oh, and Mordred; we need to have a talk in a little bit, privately.” Arthur said.

“Of course.” Mordred answered innocently before walking off. I walked off to my room as well and began packing. The only thing that I really needed to pack though, was my sword, coat, and a change of clothes. However, I still needed to do one thing. I couldn’t exactly have Medea coming along with me this time. If there is a large battle then I would rather her be as far away from it as possible.

Ultimately I knew that I couldn’t take her with us without altering a timeline. She would have been left here whether I wanted her to or not. It just wouldn’t happen. Thus, there was only one thing I could do. Leaving my room with a fairly decent sized bag I went around the castle looking for anything that could have been worth a decent amount and stuffed it into the bag without anyone noticing. Then I went to the kitchen and grabbed a wheel of cheese that could last a person a week or two. It wasn;t much but if I had it prepared for her then she could leave without much effort and escape.

“So that’s where all that stuff went?” Mordred said from the pendant.

“Yes, and you know exactly why I am taking it.” I stated without any sign that I was sorry.

“I do. You want to help little Medea when she needs to escape. I understand why you are doing it and I’m not going to stop you. To be honest, I feel bad about ever having tried to hurt her. She didn’t deserve it.” Mordred said.

“No, she didn’t. You should have been after Merlin or at the very least, me. Bringing a child who did nothing wrong into it was not a good move. Because honestly, it pisses me off.” I said.

“Are you going to do something to prevent it?” she asked.

“I wish I could. Though what could I do with all the limitations I have on my power? When humans mess with time it always gets punished through some form of intervention. Tim has been trying to tell me that no matter what I do people will die and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. So what can I do to stop her from getting hurt? Absolutely nothing. It’s already been set in stone.” I said harshly.

“So the best course of action is to prepare and hope for the best? That sounds rather dark.” Mordred said.

“If it wasn’t the truth then I wouldn’t have bothered to say it.” I said.

“Well, I’m glad you tried your best up till now. I know it’s been hard so, thank you. I doubt anyone else would be willing to suffer like you have been for someone else's sake.” Mordred said. After that she went silent.

“Thanks… I needed that.” I said as I tried not to let the tears welling up in my eyes fall.
