Outside of the house I saw Arthur baratting some kids for not doing their chores. Since he was busy and I really didn’t want to make a scene I decided to not bother him before walking to the other side of the house. Once out of sight, I focused on France. I wasn’t sure where they were in France but it didn’t matter. I could just ask around the local churches and see if they knew anything about an ex-Knight of the Round Table. One of them had to know something.

Closing my eyes, I let out a sigh and when I opened my eyes again I was in a small alley that was littered with straw and mud. Walking over to the edge of the alley I saw people covered in dirt and all forms of filth. Many of which were begging but most were simply walking around the streets.

The buildings were all a mix of wood and clay with thatch roofing. Some of the houses had glass windows but most had simple wooden storm covers. In the distance I could see a few large buildings made from stone and cement with glass windows. It was very interesting and made me feel like I may have gone a bit into the future. Though, I was sure that I had only teleported.

“Where are we?” Lily asked from inside the pendant.

“Somewhere in France. I’m not sure where though.” I replied.

“Just ask someone then.” she replied innocently.

“Oh, I hadn’t thought of that. Perhaps I should have consulted you first?” I replied sarcastically.

“Don’t worry. You seem to forget to do a lot of things.” she said without even recognizing my sarcasm. I could just tell she was smiling all proud of herself from inside the pendant.

Since I didn’t really care though, I walked out onto the street and found an older man who seemed like he had been here a while. He seemed taken aback by my mask and ultimately wanted to avoid me at all cost but I didn’t care. I still approached him.

“Excuse me sir, could you tell me where I am?” I asked.

“Well, you’re in the middle of the street.” he said in a thick accent.

“Yes, but what town?” I asked again.

“Paris. Now quit bothering me you freak.” he replied harshly. I simply ignored his tone and continued.

“Could you possibly tell me where the nearest church is?” I asked with a kind tone.

“... yeah, it’s just down this road a ways. A big stone building with many pires.” he said with a little kinder tone.

“Thank you.” I replied before walking where the old man had described. The building that he had told me of also happened to be one of the stone buildings that I had seen in the distance before. Walking up to the front door of the building I gave it a big knock. Nobody answered so I knocked again. Again, nothing. Then I heard one of the beggars near me laughing.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“It’s a Church, not a home. They are always open to hear your sins.” the beggar laughed.

“Oh…” I said to myself before pushing the door open and walking in.

Inside there were several long pews and two sets of doors. One set on either side. An altar stood at the back of the church and two more doors behind it. Each leading to a different stairway. Several people sat in the pews praying fervently but there was an older man wearing sackcloth robes and a shaved head standing in one of the doorways close to me. I assumed that he was a monk of some kind so i walked up to him.

“Excuse me, I am searching for a monk. Perhaps you know of him?” I asked. The monk looked more taken back than the old man I had talked to earlier.

“I would be glad to help you. However, I must ask that you put your sword somewhere else and perhaps take off that mask?” the monk asked.

“Oh… I don’t have anywhere to put my sword and I can’t exactly take off my mask…” I said. The monk sighed.

“Fine then. Who are you looking for?” he asked with a dissatisfied look.

“An ex-Knight of the Round Table. Perhaps you know him?” I asked. He looked a bit awkward when I mentioned the Round Table but nodded his head.

“I see… and what purpose do you have for finding this man?” he asked.

“I was hoping that he could help me.” I replied. He sighed again.

“Please wait here.” the monk said before walking off.
