《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 17 – BLOODLINE SENSING

The next morning
After Feng Luotian woke up, he found himself on the bed, but not his own.
Beside the bed, there was a desk with various medicinal scrolls and dozens of pill bottles on it.
Judging from the room’s appearance, he knew that he had to be in the Alchemy Center.
He visited here many times before.
Every once in a while, every famous doctor traveling through the city would come to greet Peacock Lord, then Peacock Lord would ask them for a request.
Every time this happened, Feng Luotian would be brought to the Alchemy Center to be diagnosed by those famous doctors. That was why he was very familiar with the place.
Feng Luotian let out a little smile before someone burst out the door in anxiety: “Luotian, you are up? How are you? Are you hurt anywhere? Wait … what happened to your eyes? When did it turn purple? Does it hurt?”
It was Mei Yue’er who was charging in and arrived at his side in no time. Her eyes were red with dark circles around them. She practically had not slept since last night.
Feng Luotian felt bad a bit as he had caused her to worry this much just by sleeping: “It doesn’t hurt. Thanks, Yue’er.”
Mei Yue’er was not the only one coming into the room. Peacock Lord together with his advisor, the First Elder, also came with her. Sun Wuji walked in a little later, minding his own manner in front of the seniors.
“Greetings, Uncle M…”
Feng Luotian immediately sat up and tried to get off the bed to perform a salute. However, Peacock Lord waved his hand: “It’s okay, Tian’er. No need for formality.”
Sun Wuji greeted: “How are you holding up, Brother Feng? Yesterday was a crazy day for me, but you had it even crazier.”
Feng Luotian calmly replied before acting ignorance with the next question: “Yue’er, Brother Sun, I’m fine. But what exactly has happened? Why am I here, at the Alchemy Center?”
Mei Yue’er recounted the story: “Your house was hit by lightning last night. It happened at night so, many people witnessed it. They could see the lightning struck from all the way here. After the Pavilion was notified of the matter, we quickly headed to your house and found you lay there, out cold on the floor, with your room destroyed.”

Sun Wuji confirmed it: “I was told the same thing earlier this morning.”
Feng Luotian asked with a smile: “Oh? Then, is there anything wrong with me?” He broke through last night and became Four Fangs Fighter, but he wanted to tease his friends whether they would notice it. In his mind, his friends would of course know about it, as cultivators of the higher cultivation level would always sense it from someone lower. However, …
Mei Yue’er replied in confusion: “The doctor said there was nothing wrong. And we came and checked up on you many times, and we too didn’t find anything wrong either. Being hit by lightning should be enough to kill you, but … so strange. Do you remember anything from last night?” The confused look also appeared on everyone in the room right now.
As for Feng Luotian, he was stumped by the fact that no one had noticed his cultivation, especially, Peacock Lord and First Elder who had the cultivation levels much higher than him.
KRONOS has concealed your cultivation level for safety purposes.
Would you like to deactivate the safety measure and let others know of your cultivation? [Yes] or [No]
“!!” The abrupt appearance of the floating words of light stunned Feng Luotian.
Noticing it, Mei Yue’er asked in worries: “Luotian, is something wrong?”
Feng Luotian: “Oh? It’s nothing. The last thing I remembered was I was trying to breakthrough in the training room.”
Eventually, Feng Luotian tapped the [No] and chose to hide the truth. It would indeed be better to keep this to himself in various aspects.
Firstly, he was a cripple beyond cure, albeit limited to Divine Bird City’s medical capability. A sudden breakthrough would cause a lot of people to pay attention to him, asking him openly or digging reasons in the dark. This would cause him more pain than relief, more enemies than friends.
Secondly, what happened yesterday was more than just a breakthrough. Mei Yue’er’s assassination was still under investigation. Hiding his cultivation would lower enemies’ guard and give him more advantages when they engaged in battle.
Another point to be made was KRONOS itself.

In this world where the strongest reined, it would be best to keep something like trump cards in his sleeve until the time when he absolutely needed to reveal them.
And surely, all of this was just a tip of an ice burg. He could not wait to try a few more things from the system.
Upon thinking up to here, Feng Luotian tested the system by focusing his attention on Mei Yue’er.
Feng Luotian had wanted to try since last night whether the system could provide him information about others as well. If that was the case, then it would be another mind-numbing trait of KRONOS.
And just as he hoped for, the KRONOS’s window popped up beside Mei Yue’er’s head.
Name: Mei Yue’er
Level: Seven Fangs
Bloodline: Thousand Illusion Aurora Peacock
Bloodline Ability: Illusion Clone
The user can create an illusion clone with the cost of Theríon. The higher level of the clone, the more Theríon it costs. Create an illusion clone at the same level as the user will cost their maximum Theríon capacity.
"Wow!! How convenient you are, KRONOS."
Feng Luotian inwardly exclaimed with excitement as this was indeed another unbelievable feature to KRONOS.
At first, he was expecting to see only her power level and bloodline, but he was actually able to see her bloodline’s ability as well.
Normally, it was simple to identify one’s cultivation level when they had activated their Theríon. However, if they were in their inactive state, it was quite difficult for one to certainly determine the cultivation level of their opponents, as they could have hidden their cultivation with either abilities, items, or skills. One would have to use a specific identification item or skill to see through such a camouflage.
So with this feature of KRONOS, Feng Luotian could freely ascertain the opponent’s power level.
As for identifying one’s bloodline, you needed knowledge, insight and experience. Color, pressure, aura, and pulsing of Theríon could give clues to one’s bloodline.
Even though Feng Luotian had an absolute advantage in this regard by being a reincarnator, KRONOS had beaten him fair and square. Anyway, it was still common to be able to tell one’s bloodline, so he did not mind. However,
The bloodline’s ability was the only information no treasure nor knowledge could grasp. One could only ask the owner of that bloodline about it.
Although there were tons of items and techniques that could extract such information from cultivators, the ones whose information was extracted would naturally know about it, because the process of such a technique came with excruciating pain dealt upon the victim.
Another harmless way to do it would be by brainwashing or psychologically controlling one’s mind to spill the information.
However, neither of the common ways to know one’s bloodline’s ability had occurred. And Feng Luotian could extract such information about it so effortlessly, and without them noticing it.
With this, he could use calculate moves, intentions, plans, and counters in battle, even if he was to fight with a complete stranger, giving an absolute advantage over others.
"You’re next, Brother Sun."
He shifted his gaze to Sun Wuji.
Name: Sun Wuji
Level: Six Fangs
Bloodline: Blitz Stone Titan Monkey
Bloodline Ability: Stone Transformation
Transform the user’s body to stone boosting attack and defense while the user’s speed will be decreased according to how much the body was transformed.
"Blitz Stone Titan Monkey? Isn’t that a bloodline of Monkey Immortal Clan’s side branch? But Brother Sun said that he doesn’t remember his parents nor where he came from. Maybe the story behind this is much more complicated”
Since he had already spent a couple of centuries with Mei Yue’er, Feng Luotian would of course thoroughly know her bloodline and ability a long time ago. So, he was more interested in Sun Wuji’s bloodline and ability.
As he looked over at Peacock Lord and First Elder, information continued to appear for him to see.
Name: Mei Xuankong
Level: Five Wings
… Name: Mei Changkong
Level: Three Wings
…
Both Peacock Lord and First Elder’s bloodline and ability were the same as Mei Yue’er’s.
Feng Luotian thought: "Let’s call this Bloodline Sensing"

The Cyclical Nature of Time
A girl’s life ends unexpectedly early, or so it would seem. Instead of eternal nothingness, she wakes up in an empty valley with no clue how she got there. Taking her predicament in stride, she sets out to do something about it. Unfortunately for her, the first couple of people she meets aren’t much help. They claim they haven’t heard of electricity and dress as if they were on a break from their job at a Viking-themed amusement park. MC is a somewhat normal girl. She's pragmatic and not very angsty. The story is tagged with anti-hero, but to be clear, she is not a villain. She does good if she can, she just isn't morally motivated to do so. The story starts out smelling of fantasy but will eventually shift towards sci-fi. It contains some supernatural elements and has a strong lead, but it is not your usual power trip. Expect a story that takes its time, but not to the point where entire chapters are spent on mindless chit-chat. I’m not into that. This is my first serious attempt at writing and I've learnt a lot writing this. Unfortunately, that shows. Chapter 1-10 is slow and rather pointless. Things get better, but it is not until chapter 25 or so that I began understanding how to structure chapters and to make them support the larger story. I publish about 3000 words a week (every sunday) but I write about 10000 words a week. Sticking to that pace, which is easy, the last chapter will be out by July.
