《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 72 : DECLARATION

After the pain from his torn arm rushed back to his nerve, Sikong Jiu loudly screamed in anguish: “Aaaaaargh!!”
Blackie and Whitey quickly arrived at their master’s side and tended to his wound: “Young Master!!”
“What happened?!”
“I don’t know I couldn’t see a thing.”
“Aren’t there anyone who can elaborate this?”
A hoarse voice sounded within the crowd: “I can!!”
The crowd pleaded: “Uncle Ji!! Please, would you mind describing what just happened?”
This ‘Uncle Ji’ happened to be a Two Talons Warrior before he retired from the cultivation world and lived like a normal merchant on the street.
Even though Uncle Ji could observe the fight much clearer than others amongst the people here, he must admit that the speeds of contestants on the battleground were undoubtedly astounding. He probably would not be able to keep up with them, even if he tried his best.
With that, Uncle Ji started explaining: “I suspect that most of you could only see a streak of lightning traveled back and forth on the arena and nothing else. So, I’ll be explaining to those that could at least saw some shadows of the fighters as they could at least follow my explanation. After Young Master Sikong’s entrapment skill was repelled by God’s Son’s giant boulder, he chose to use his ultimate move [Overcharge] that electrifies any objects between the teleportation line after he jumps. God’s Son’s speed and insight were really impressive as he could dodge hundreds of those sonic-quick attacks. And even if he took in some score, he managed to take a little damage from it. That meant his Lightning Resistance is also quite high. When God’s Son finally stopped moving and closed his eyes, that should be when he had completely comprehended the teleporting pattern of Young Master Sikong. I guess God’s Son now knows exactly where Young Master Sikong would be teleporting to when he got attacked. God’s Son’s comprehensive ability is on a whole other level.”
The crowd exclaimed “What?!” in disbelief.
One of them asked: “How could that be? There should be more than ten marks he could use to teleport to. How can you know which one would he choose?”
Uncle Ji answered: “That’s why I said his comprehensive ability is amazing. He did not just guess where his opponent would go, he probably used the angle and speed of his attacks to narrow down the choice. If God’s Son knows Young Master Sikong’s habit, with the right calculation, he would know exactly which waypoint Young Master Sikong would choose.”

The same one asked again: “How could God’s Son know Young Master Sikong’s habit? Do they know each other?”
Uncle Ji shook his head: “They shouldn’t be knowing each other. Probably, God’s Son discerned it as he fought Young Master Sikong.”
The crowd looked at each other in astonishment. The fight did not even last three minutes. How could you completely understand others within that time?
Another one amongst the crowd asked: “What happened after that? Even if God’s Son could tell where Young Master Sikong would teleport to, he wouldn’t be able to catch him and tear his arm off, right? The process of teleportation is just a thought.”
Uncle Ji fell into contemplation: “I don’t know if it’s what really happened. Here is what I speculate from what I saw. God’s Son likely used the afterimage to his advantage.”
His explanation made the crowd even more confused: “How so, Uncle Ji?”
Uncle Ji: “After God’s Son declared that he would defeat Young Master Sikong within three moves, Young Master Sikong jumped planning to [overcharge] God’s Son who was closing his eyes. However, God’s Son approached and threw a punch at him with lightning speed. However, even before, Young Master Sikong jumped away and dodged that punch, I saw a streak of lightning already traveled and headed to the [Lightning Mark] where Young Master Sikong warped to in the next moment. And at that moment, the God’s Son who was throwing a punch gradually blurred and disappeared at the same time when another God’s Son was delivering a whip kick upon Young Master Sikong. This time, I saw another streak of lightning flashed to another [Lightning Mark], even before Young Master Sikong noticed the whip kick. So, I guess God’s Son was already waiting for Young Master Sikong and only let his afterimage execute the attack just to scare Young Master Sikong. After that … Hehe … his prey could do nothing but serve its own arm onto the dish he prepared.”
"Hiss!!"
Everyone in the crowd took a cold breath, including Sun Wuji. He could not help but think: “Is this the same guy as one month ago?”
Back to the battle area
Feng Luotian dropped the arm in his hand and walked to the stakes they put down previously: “Since someone from your side had interfered in our match, it means you’ve lost. So, I’ll be taking this bet.”

The instant Feng Luotian lowered himself to pick up the bet, Sikong Jiu roared: “I haven’t surrendered yet!!”
Feng Luotian disregarded whatever Sikong Jiu was trying to say: “Oh? So, I can get the Mei Clan’s Alchemy Center here and continue to heal me every time I received any injuries, is that what you meant? Hehe … how laughable!!”
No matter how you see it, Sikong Jiu had lost the match. Thus, Feng Luotian ignored his previous sentence by putting away the monster cores and throwing the [Argentine Transformation Fists] back to Sun Wuji.
“YOU!!” Despite the pain from his lost arm, Sikong Jiu still had the energy to shout at his enemy. And upon realization of some matter, he furiously retorted: “Hmph!! As if they would choose you over me, idiot!!”
Feng Luotian thought: “That confirms it!! Second Elder had already colluded with the Sikong Clan. The younger you are, the lighter your mouth is.”
Being called ‘idiot’ did not anger Feng Luotian one bit, but that did not mean there was no other matter to get angry about. With a darkening face, Feng Luotian turned to Sikong Jiu and the twins at his side: “Tell me, what did you promise Mei Hongyi after you take over the Mei Clan as Divine Bird City’s ruler?!”
The question from Feng Luotian immediately gave a clamor to the crowd.
“What?! Sikong Clan’s trying to take over Mei Clan?”
“And to think that, Mei Clan’s Second Elder had already joined hands with the Sikong.”
“But Mei Clan has a connection with God.”
“Yeah, what will become of our city in the future if God returns and see his friend’s clan gone?”
Feng Luotian’s voice was not low, so everyone around the area could hear him clearly. And Mei Hongyi, as a Two Wings Master, was famous in his own right. Everyone knew his name and his status. At this time, after Feng Luotian proved his worth, what he said had more creditability than before. Plus, from the context of Sikong Jiu’s speech, it was likely that it was true.
Sikong Jiu ceased regarding Feng Luotian as ‘God’s Son’ and threatened him: “Feng Luotian!! Stop spouting nonsense without any evidence!! Earlier we could turn my deaf ears on it, but this time we won’t!! I will report this matter to the Peacock Pavilion myself and see if you can compensate for your crime.”
Not only did Feng Luotian apologize and correct his previous statement, but he also added even more fuel to the fire: “People from Sikong Clan heed my words. I will regard your Young Master’s lost arm as the compensation for targeting our lives one month ago. This is as lenient as I possibly force myself into. But if you continue to bare your fangs at Mei Clan or people whom I wish to protect … you will face my wrath upon touching it!!”
After finishing his declaration, Feng Luotian walked towards his brother and together left the scene.
The crowd, especially the older generation, had a goosebump as Feng Luotian used the exact words that his father, the God, used to declare to the world and brought peace to the city until this very day.
Blackie turned serious and asked: “What do we do, Young Master? The matter started to get out of hands, right, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie!! We have to contain the information as fast as possible” answered Whitey.
Sikong Jiu gave an order: “The wound was already closed, so I’ll return and report the matter to Father myself. You two go and kill those two, and this time, don’t fail!!”
The twins replied in unison: “Yes, Master!!”
Feng Luotian felt something and glanced back to see that Blackie and Whitey stormed their ways at them. His eyebrows were abruptly furrowed as he shouted: “Brother Sun, run!! They’re coming to kill us!!”
Sun Wuji uttered: “What?!”
Not waiting for his brother any longer, the guy’s reaction was too slow to get them out of the situation, so Feng Luotian activated [Pinnacle Flash Lightning] and carried Sun Wuji on his shoulder, then flashed away with haste.
The Twins growled: “You bastard!!” They burst out their Theríon and chased Feng Luotian and co.
Sun Wuji on Feng Luotian’s shoulder collected himself, but rather than saying that he would run on his own, he noticed a far more frightening issue: “W-W-Wait!! Where do you think you’re heading, Brother Feng? That way is Nefarious Valley!! Are you out of your mind?!”

As a side note for those reading this while it is ongoing, I will occasionally go back to previous chapters and sometimes add certain elements to the skills and leveling. Not to worry though as I will tell you as to what I have edited in the authors notes, so be sure to pay attention to those when they appear as they may contain information required for continued understanding. Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
