《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 74 : WISP OF CONSCIENCE

Feng Luotian involuntarily exclaimed: “SHIT!!”
He immediately turned back to the way he escaped from. Facing the twins seemed to be a heaven in the hell, right now, because his chance of surviving was much higher fighting them than braving the monkey in the back.
However, even before he dashed towards the exit, a humungous tail fell down and prevented his absconding, devastating the surrounding area in the process.
Not a moment later, a hand, large enough to hold a small hill, was extended from the monster, intending to grab Feng Luotian.
The hand was covering most of his escape path, and the only way he could flee from this predicament was to run under its crotch, but that would mean he needed to dive deeper into the Nefarious Valley.
The deeper he went into the valley, the higher chance he was going to die with a body to hold a funeral ceremony. Despite that fact, if he did not take the risk, the chance Feng Luotian was going to die would be 100%.
Feng Luotian, with his [Pinnacle Flash Lightning], immediately darted himself between the Earth Dwelling Mountain Monkey’s legs to avoid its capture.
One thing was fortunate though. After the monkey woke up, the weaker monsters stayed far away and did not dare to pester him while he was running away.
Nevertheless, the monkey alone had already been enough to spell the word ‘doom’ for all cultivators under Wing Realm.
Noticing that its grab missed its target, the monkey roared in fury and quickly chased down Feng Luotian, and one step could close in the distance he was making thus far.
Now, rather than trying to grab its food, the monkey slammed both of its fists upon the earth, which was its skill: [Ground Slam], creating a land tsunami that obliterated any terrain and forest on touch.
Feng Luotian could not help but curse out loud: “Damn it!!”
At the moment, there were only two options: to get up high in the air to avoid the land tsunami or to get buried in it.
Getting up high was simple, but it spelled a sure death for Feng Luotian. Because at Fang Realm, he could not change the direction midair, once he jumped over the land wave, he would be an easy target for the monkey to capture.
That was why Feng Luotian chose to brace himself, getting ready to be buried alive by the wave of [Ground Slam].
Not seeing any meal escaping over the land wave, the monkey lost interest and shifted its focus onto the twins instead.

The Twins both retrieved a talisman with the word [Repel] from each of their bag, and hold it steady in front between their fingers then shouted in unison: “Activate!!”
Upon the activation, a whirl of smoke was released from each talisman and widely spread around the Twins. This smoke was entirely ineffective against humans, but to the monster, its smell was unbearable.
A sniff of the smoke forced the Wing Realm monkey to retreat and getting away from the Twins. This indicated their specialization as a monster hunter was not just for show.
After the monkey left the area, the Twins arrived at the place where Feng Luotian was buried in the ground.
“With this much land piling upon him, he shouldn’t be able to survive, should he, Whitey?”
“Of course not, Blackie. One would need to be a Talon Realm to get out of that.”
“But just to be sure, let’s summon it, right, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie. With this, God’s Son’s life is as good as gone.”
Following that, the Twins executed a couple of hand seals and placed their palms on the ground: “[Summon]!!”
With two puffs of smoke, two purplish horned snakes appeared. Their size was not large, just a few meters long. However, they had their special function: tracking and assassinating with lethal poison.
The Twins then touched the middle of their own forehead with an index finger to retrieve a piece of conscience from their mind in the form of a wisp of light. Afterward, they placed that wisp of conscience into the snake’s head.
Upon receiving the wisp, both snakes seemed to know what they were supposed to do and quickly slithered away.
“Let’s go back and reported that God’s Son is no more, right, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie. We no longer have any business here.”
With that, the Twins vanished from the site and returned to the city.
Even though the Twins were traveling at an insane speed, when they passed through the holey boulder, Sun Wuji could still notice that it was them.
After confirming that, the Twins left the valley back to the city, Sun Wuji transformed back to his normal body and hastily headed to where Feng Luotian was.
Actually, their Theríon’s link had already broken when Feng Luotian was running away from the Twins and the monsters because the distance between Feng Luotian and Sun Wuji was growing and surpassed their limited range of the party.

Nevertheless, Sun Wuji still knew Feng Luotian’s last location right before the connection broke, and that was where he was currently heading.
Thanks to the [Repel] talisman’s effect, the area was of zero monsters and gave Sun Wuji a clear path to where he wished to go. Although he was confused as to why the Nefarious Valley was so lacking in monsters and not like what he heard from seniors in the city, Sun Wuji did not put that in mind for long because, since there were fewer monsters, it would be easier for him to search for his brother.
After reaching the location he last sensed his brother through the party, Sun Wuji continued ahead for a couple of miles. Upon arriving at the place likely to be where they fought each other, he felt like he was seeing a catastrophe where the meteor hit the earth.
Next to the two huge craters, hundreds of acres of the forest were transformed into a flat land where only earth and mud could be seen.
“What the hell happened here?”
Sun Wuji softly muttered in astonishment, then he loudly called out to his brother: “Brother Feng!!” He repeatedly screamed for his brother to no avail. There was no one answering his call.
Sun Wuji frowned in worry: “Please be alright.”
After he walked around the place, Sun Wuji noticed a wisp of light floating above the ground.
He swiftly approached it to observe what it was. With a recognition of the entity, he promptly put it into his forehead as it was a wisp of conscience from Feng Luotian.
[Wisp of conscience] was a technique every cultivator knew as it was taught in the preschool. It was one of the convenient ways cultivators used to communicate when they could not do it directly.
One could form a thought, a memory, a message, a command or any kind of mental recollection into a wisp of light and pulled that out of their mind to be sent into another’s.
A wisp of conscience was ethereal that could go through any physical object; however, it could be captured using Theríon. That was why you had to be careful when sending the message, or else, its content may be exposed to those that caught it. You could either do it face-to-face or setting up a protective security that would only allow the intended individual to receive the wisp to prevent such risks.
After the wisp of light merged into his mind, Sun Wuji received a clear message from his brother.
“Because I have created this wisp of conscience that only one person could hear the message, if the message is being played right now, then I was right about your stubbornness, Brother Sun. Before our linked Theríon broke, I could sense that you’re still at that boulder and have not yet returned to the city. You must intend to follow me after the Twins left the Valley. And since you have received the message, then listen.”
“I am still alive and well. Beneath the chaos above, there was a huge cave tunneling underground around the area. I fell into this place when I tried to dive down and escape my previous perilous predicament. This place is pretty deep, so it might take days before I find the way out, so Brother Sun, take my words back and report to Uncle Mei.”
“The piece of memory after I finish my message contains images of evidence along with my analysis and speculation. I suspect that the Mei Clan’s Second Elder: Mei Hongyi, or rather the whole Alchemy Center, was planning something with Sikong Clan to take over Mei Clan as Divine Bird City’s ruler. Tell them to be careful and keep Yue’er safe. I’ll get out of here as fast as possible. You too, Brother Sun. Be careful, the city is not as peaceful as you think. I’ll leave the rest to you. Going out.”
After the end of the message, Sun Wuji attained a part of Feng Luotian’s memory: The Raven Village’s incident with the Vulture Bandit Troupe, the document from Alchemy Center, the conversation between him and Mei Hongyi, everything related to the potential conspiracy.
The information alone made Sun Wuji shiver from head to toe. He could not imagine the day Sikong Clan ruled over the city. Those who related to Mei Clan would not have one good day to live. Even though it was just speculation, with this intel, even the dumb Sun Wuji could tell that there was something behind the bushes.
Not wandering around any longer, Sun Wuji madly stormed his way back to the city and to meet with Peacock Lord as soon as possible. The matter was much more severe than he could handle alone.

A Universe of Bloody Evolution
The Void was never meant to be opened to the Multiverse. The horrors waiting inside it should have never seen the light. And yet, the biggest mistake in the history of creation led to the impossible. In an event later known as the Outbreak, gates appeared in the first Universe, and with them, the Void was free. For ages the Void destroyed universe after universe, spreading its power in every direction, leaving only death and pain behind. But before every Universe met its end, it still had a chance. A small part of the population that survived the initial Outbreak and was granted a mysterious System to help them fight against the dangers that came from the Void. They were the Multiverse's last hope even if they couldn't stop the collapse of their own world. And so the cycle continued until the 36th Outbreak came. Leo Hale, a young reporter from Wolford, was one of the lucky ones to survive when the majority of Earth's population turned into monsters straight out of nightmares. Thrust into a constant battle for his life, Leo was determined to push forward and find his remaining family. Even if it meant sacrificing what was left of his humanity. After all, you either adapt or die. Story of progression and evolution with my take at the post-apocalyptic genre. Unlike most monster evolution stories where the monster rushes to gain human form, here I plan to do something quite the opposite. After all, in a world where almost everything wants to kill you, being human can be hard. Warnings are here to give me the freedom to write whatever is necessary. This is my first original novel. Also English isn't my native language so any feedback is welcome. Remember that even if initially this story takes place on Earth, fictional places, streets, etc will appear. Release Schedule: Monday - Wednesday - Friday Average chapter length: 2000-2500 words (There might be exceptions as is the case with some of the first chapters - most of them are longer.)
