《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 86 : FORMATION MASTER

Right after Feng Luotian stashed those two Talon cores, he heard a rumbling sound approaching their way, and the earth itself began to shake.
Sensing something, Xiu Yao quickly grabbed Feng Luotian’s back collar then jumped and pulled him up high until they reached the highest branch of the tree.
Not half a minute later, a stampede of at least a hundred Ten Fangs dark brown bison was heading north in a hurried manner. Their size was not equal to any regular bison. They were all at the very least four meters tall.
In a one-on-one battle with any one of these bison, Feng Luotian would certainly emerge triumphantly; however, being in the middle of the road of the stampede, Feng Luotian could only be squashed to death in an instant if he was not careful.
Xiu Yao softly commented: “A horde of Tarrentrack Wood Bisons heading the same way, huh? That’s incredibly similar to the scene I witnessed before I accidentally fell into that mountain monkey’s nostril. I think we should follow them. Their destination might have an answer to my mission. Junior Brother Feng, what do you think? Do you think …”
Feng Luotian nodded and answered right away: “Yes, I’m also curious about why the monsters move like that. But before that, let’s put on some concealment. Because if what I’m guessing is right, then we’ll be in trouble the moment we get caught.”
Not waiting for another long and uncontrollable parlance from his senior brother, Feng Luotian started controlling his Theríon and quickly drew two magic circles into two formations.
Those formations were called [Spiritual Concealment Formation] and used to hide one’s Theríon, aura, and existence from other cultivators to a certain level.
While this [Spiritual Concealment Formation] was the most basic of all the concealing formations that existed in the universe and could only hide oneself from ordinary sensing of cultivators up until late-stage Wing Realm, Feng Luotian had no choice but to use this formation because the more advanced formation required more Theríon, more sophisticated technique, and higher cultivation to produce. Nevertheless, this should be enough to conceal them from the enemies they were about to spy on.

Even though it was the most fundamental formation of the same type, for the people on this weak planet where the knowledge about formation was scarce, even the easiest one of all could make them astounded to the point of complete respect.
Xiu Yao could not contain himself and praised his junior brother: “Wow, Junior Brother! You know how to draw a formation as well?! And under the Talon Realm too! Is there anything you can’t do? Hah, I’m really pale in comparison to you! When I was your age, I was still just …”
Feng Luotian promptly interrupted: “Before I place this formation onto our body. Let’s link our Theríon and form a party so that we won’t stumble on each other because after I activate this formation, we won’t be able to see each other. And please kindly restrain yourself from talking when we’re partied as I need to focus more when facing stronger foes.”
Feng Luotian began to be direct with his senior brother’s interesting personality. However, not only was Xiu Yao not angry at his junior brother at all, but he also smiled at Feng Luotian’s frankness. Normally, when facing someone stronger, one would tend to avoid offending those people, but Feng Luotian said it to his face.
Xiu Yao ‘shortly’ replied: “Okay, Junior Brother! Let’s party and follow the monsters! I promise I’ll keep my sentence as short as possible when we’re partied. But just to be sure, I’ll …”
Feng Luotian: “Senior Brother.” He called then pinched his thumb and index finger together moving them across from one corner of his lips to another, signaling Xiu Yao to zip it.
Xiu Yao smiled as his junior brother became bolder and bolder before him. This was something he had never experienced before. There was only his master who scolded outright when he was talking too much.
After Feng Luotian finished setting up the formations, their bodies gradually faded and eventually became invisible.
When Xiu Yao noticed that could not see his junior brother, he was amazed. If they were not in the party that could detect each other through linked Theríon, he would not be able to sense him at all, not that he could sense Feng Luotian prior to this. But before he started praising, Feng Luotian cut the conversation by speaking via the party chat: “Let’s go and follow them!”

In the north area of the Nefarious Valley, there was a huge lake connecting the valley and the Winterrock Peak. Of course, that lake was abundant in monsters and materials, but today, Feng Luotian did not come for either of those as he came to confirm the guess he had in mind.
A small grass field beside the lake, around a few acres in space, was currently occupied by hundreds of monsters, ranging from Nine Fangs to Three Talons, including those bison.
The assembly of monsters was strange enough; however, the strangest thing of all was how obedient and quiet the monsters were. Here was the Nefarious Valley where the monsters were all dark monsters that were famous in their ferociousness and frenzy. Normally, they would attack everything nearby, regardless of that entity being a cultivator or a monster. But today, their manners were completely opposite to common sense. They were orderly lining up in front of a huge stone gate before them.
Upon arrival on top of the tree nearby the grass field, Feng Luotian saw a horde of monsters standing silently before the stone gate, which was about ten meters tall. Considering the situation, he recognized the gate instantly.
The stone gate was the product of a formation, but not just any ordinary formation, it was a far more advanced one called: [Beastworld Formation], which was a Demirium formation.
Upon the realization, Feng Luotian frowned in confusion. He did not expect anyone within the surrounding area of Divine Bird City to be so capable as to formulate something like this. It required at least a dozen of Titanium formation masters or a Demirium formation master to create this formation.
In this cultivation world, while cultivators distinguished themselves from the commoners and were mainly cultivating their strengths to protect the commoners with their territories very much like soldiers, amongst cultivators, there were various professions cultivators would be specialized into.
Similar to weapon-making forgers and pill-making alchemists, formation master was one of those aforementioned professions cultivators could take to make their lives different than others.
As the name suggested, formation masters were those who specialized in formations. Other than cultivating, they would generally study and research formations in their spare time. High-level formation masters would offer their service to construct various types of formations in exchange for monster cores to be used in their cultivation, akin to forgers selling their weapons and alchemists selling their pills.
One thing to be mentioned was that there rarely were Fang Realm cultivators who were skillful enough to be able to sell their products or services. Why?
Because every profession needed Theríon to create things. With the Theríon within one’s body alone, it was hardly enough to make anything out of it. That was the reason why cultivators were required to be at least Talon Realm before taking any professions. Being Talon Realm, cultivators could absorb energy from the earth and transform that energy into Theríon to be used in their crafting.
With all the knowledge he had from his previous life, Feng Luotian could be anything, whether it was a forger, an alchemist, a formation master, or et cetera, but that would only begin once he became One Talon Warrior.
The formations he performed up until now were all at the lowest of low and would only have some effects on those at Fang Realm after being imbued with monster cores. Although the [Spiritual Concealment Formation] he used just earlier could hide him from Xiu Yao’s sensing, a single Theríon Sonar would be able to detect him right away.
Also, when Feng Luotian corrected Ming Zhuo’s [Fate of Metal Formation] at that mysterious shop, he only altered the drawing and borrowed the required Theríon from the formation Ming Zhuo already poured a lot of effort into it. Compared to the rest of the cultivation world, he was still far from being a full-fledge formation master.
