《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 96 : Xiu Yao Saved the Day

After getting the confirmation from Xiu Yao, Feng Luotian implicitly explained: “Senior Brother, the plan is very simple. We will need you to disperse the crowds. That way Uncle Mei will surely and instantly turn the table on the Sikong’s Clan Chief.”
Xiu Yao did not get it, so he asked: “How exactly am I going to disperse the crowds, Junior Brother? By force? That wouldn’t do, I think …”
Feng Luotian interjected: “You just have to convince them. And I have the item to make you more convincing if you wish them to be gone.”
Xiu Yao became overly curious: “There was an item to amplify the effect of convincing people? This world really is huge!”
Feng Luotian fetched a flower from his ring and secretly showed it to his master and senior brother. The flower was born inflorescence which appeared in the axils of five white petals like a star, together with golden stigmas sticking out of it: “You just need to consume it and everything will be like I said.”
“Wind Whisper Papaya Flower!” Once he saw the herb within Feng Luotian’s hand, Mei Hengkong recognized the plan instantly. He turned to his disciple: “Yao’er, are you really sure that you’ll be fine even if you’re going to be ridiculed for a long time?”
Xiu Yao unhesitatingly nodded: “Why would I care about my face when the school’s reputation is at stake here? If the school loses its face, then my face will be lost too. Not that I have plenty of faces in the first place.”
Hearing Xiu Yao’s conviction, Feng Luotian and Mei Hengkong were full of admiration toward the guy, along with some sense of guilt lingering in their hearts.
Indeed, it was rare to meet someone with such a simple and straightforward mind. Peacock School was really lucky to have someone like him as one of its disciples.
Feng Luotian handed the flower to his senior brother.
Xiu Yao consumed it right away without any hesitation, then walked forward to the center of the crowd circle. Feng Luotian and Mei Hengkong closely followed in case of their supreme elder deciding to use a suppressive force on him or attack him.

Sikong Jiu’s big brother, Sikong Jian, noticed Xiu Yao, so he ‘friendly’ greeted: “Long time no see, Xiu Yao. How have you been lately? I didn’t expect that after all this while, you haven’t managed to advance to Wing Realm. What a disappointing guy! Being both the [Dark Sun] and the First Feather of the Peacock School, but you can’t even live up to your titles!”
Condoning the mocking words from Sikong Jian, Xiu Yao responded with a smile: “Sikong Jian, don’t mind me for lacking talent. At least, I became Four Talons much earlier than you. Criticizing me is the same as deriding yourself, so you better save your words to remind yourself to be diligent after you all go home. Now if you’d excuse me, I have some matter on hand to attend to.”
Sikong Jian’s expression turned ugly: “You! Hmph! What else can you do in this situation? Your beloved lord will lose all of his faces today?!”
Xiu Yao honestly answered: “I’ll convince people to go home and let our schoolmaster have an easy time dealing with your father.”
When he heard the reply from Xiu Yao, Sikong Jian burst out in laughter: “Hahaha … how in the world will you do that? Curiosity and nosiness are human’s nature. Look at them! They are willing to be our tools just to watch them fight to the end.”
Xiu Yao scoffed at the comment: “Just you wait! I have already eaten the treasure provided by my junior brother to increase my ability to convince people. Hehe.”
“?!” Sikong Jian frowned. He did not understand a single word from Xiu Yao. Now, his own curiosity bound him to see what was about to happen without interfering with his enemies’ business.
The Sikong Clan’s Supreme Elder narrowed his eyes trying to figure out what they were planning to do. He wished to stop them just in case but he was not strong enough to deal with Mei Hengkong, so he was just standing by to witness their scheme.
Xiu Yao walked past the group of sparrows and stood at the center of the crowd. When he was about to make his announcement, he felt something moving in his stomach. That something gradually grew in size and made Xiu Yao look more and more like a pregnant woman.

Even now, Xiu Yao still had an interesting expression and thought whether this was the effect of increasing his charisma.
The strange appearance drew all attention from the crowd, including Peacock Lord and Sparrow Lord who stopped their fight temporarily, toward Xiu Yao.
Xiu Yao opened his mouth and shouted: “I have an announcement to make. Everyone, please leave this … buuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp!!”
Once his tummy grew to its maximum state, all the air that had been ballooning his stomach until now was coming through his belch, creating a unique stench in a wide area.
“What the hell is this smell?! This is intolerable!!”
“It’s that guy! I think he just burped.”
“How could a burp be this smelly? The stench is even worse than the smell of my most terrifying feces!”
“Even though I wish to watch the end result of the battle between the two lords, I can just ask others who stay. Anyway, I’m leaving this place. Any longer than this I might die from suffocation!”
“Yeah! Let’s go!”
People hurriedly covered their mouths and noses as they fled from the area as soon as they took a sniff of Xiu Yao’s air.
Feng Luotian and Mei Hengkong, who knew of the plan prior to this, already used their Theríon to seal their sense of smell before it happened. Hence, they stood there completely unfazed. Even so, they were looking at Xiu Yao and preparing to apologize to the poor guy.
Xiu Yao, on the other hand, turned to Feng Luotian, but instead of blaming his junior brother, he repeatedly patted Feng Luotian’s shoulder in excitement: “Hahaha! It’s really like you said, Junior Brother Feng! I haven’t even finished my sentence, but the crowds were already dispersed! This is magic!”
Feng Luotian could not help but look at his master in a weird way. He began to doubt whether his senior brother had a sane mind.
Mei Hengkong felt a gaze from Feng Luotian. He shook his head and closed his eyes, signaling his disciple to let it go because it was the guy’s unique trait for being dumb.
Sikong Jian, who also used his Theríon to seal his sense of smell the moment Xiu Yao belched, burst out in rage: “Xiu Yao, you scoundrel! How shameless can you be to do that in public?!”
Xiu Yao turned to his rival and flatly answered: “What’s wrong with what I just did? I just ate something weird before this. It’s natural for me to have a little burp to let out of the bad gas.”
Sikong Jian’s complexion turned even uglier than before, but now he could no longer have time to quarrel with Xiu Yao. He switched his attention to his father, who was fighting with Peacock Lord previously.
As for the Sikong Clan’s Supreme Elder, he closed his eyes since there was nothing that could be done. And their business here was as good as over. All in all, they had achieved the main objective they came here to do.
Sparrow Lord, who lost his advantage over Peacock Lord, dispersed the lightning sphere in his hand. He picked up the blade on the ground and returned to his supreme elder’s side: “Because the gallery was not so grand anymore, let’s continue our fight the other day, Peacock Lord! We will be accepting this item as compensation as you suggested. May you have peace of mind after today. Hehe.”
Not waiting for anyone to respond, all four of them vanished from the place. They were likely teleporting to the [Lightning Marks] they placed outside the school before coming here.
Peacock Lord waved his hand and the gust created by his power carried Xiu Yao’s convincing method away from the place.
Even though he sighed in his heart at the fact that they lost a precious item, every innocent was unhurt. That was the best thing he could hope for as the city lord. That was why he felt grateful to Xiu Yao for shaming himself to save him from the previous predicament and expressed a word of gratitude to Xiu Yao: “Thanks for saving me just now.”
Xiu Yao hurriedly waved his hand: “Not at all, Schoolmaster!”

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
