XG 45 - Buy some chicks for you to play
Kang Xunsu sighed, standing beside Wong Xue Guo as they stared at Charles Wong discussing things with Aurora. “It’s good your father is finally here.”
Once again, Wong Xue Guo was reminded that Kang Xunsu and the bodyguards were her hired help. Even if they willingly followed her as she was their employer, they would still have hesitation when it comes to obeying her commands. When her parents were not around, was it really the right choice to let them follow her command instead of the opposite? Bodyguards usually knew more about survival skills and ways not to seek death.
Who would also want to listen to a seventeen-year-old girl that needs their protection anyway?
“Yeah,” Wong Xue Guo agreed.
With her father around handling their turf, Wong Xue Guo was relieved. She was not the type comfortable in taking charge, especially with important matters like people's safety. She was more comfortable with giving support and continued playing the salted fish where she gets to be piggybacked by experts.
“But there’s bad news, little princess.” Kang Xunsu sighed again, this time much heavier. “Lunch has not been prepared.”
L.L. approached them, giving his leader a stink eye. “The internet is down. The mobile data is also not working. The telephone line is barely there, but seems to be dying soon.” Or else they would have ordered food through the food delivery app. Without the internet or phone line, they could not order food.
“No line?” Wong Xue Guo raised her phone, tested her internet data, and found it was working normally.
“No need to look at yours. Yours is from a different line.”
“What do you mean by a different line?” Wong Xue Guo asked, puzzled. Her phone was purchased by her mother, equipped with a sim card under the family plan package, and has everything she needs. Was not everyone subscribing to the same or similar line as everyone?
“Mine is also working,” Chen Yibo reported.
“Yours is the private line that your dad brought and shared with Chen’s family,” Kang Xunsu explained. “Come, lend me your phone.”
As the only selected few that still have her mobile data working, Wong Xue Guo begrudgingly loans her phone out.
“Why is the internet down so quickly?” Wong Xue Guo questioned. They were not at the point where the electricity would stop working. It was only the third day of the apocalypse.

“It’s only in Penang Island,” Kang Xunsu replied.
“Why?”
“I know why!” Noodle cut in. “The government is playing games with the heads on this island!”
“Power play?”
“More like trying to control the other party. Penang Island is actually the safest place in Malaysia and they are being eyed by those rich people. The other states are not prepared well enough so they will get toppled sooner or later. But no worries. Madam Lok won’t easily be defeated!”
“Do you think people still have time to play such childish things?” Kang Xunsu clearly did not agree with Noodle’s reason. “With the country on lockdown, who could still go to work properly? Everyone will be more busy caring for their lives than going to work.”
“Really? I thought power play would be more logical because Penang is safe and everyone seems to be still working.” Noodle sighed, caressing his mobile phone. Like most young generations, he found life was difficult without the internet.
“You just want your internet to come back,” Kang Xunsu snorted.
L.L. watched Kang Xunsu download the food ordering app before speaking up. “Young Miss might be the only one with the internet.”
“Ya, so?” Kang Xunsu logged in with his own account.
“So what’s the use of being the only one that could use the internet? The eatery won’t be able to receive your order.”
Kang Xunsu’s hand stopped. “Darn it.”
“Then go out and buy some back.” Smoker glanced at Noodle meaningfully.
“You are bullying me ah, brother Smoker!”
Kang Xunsu tsk-ed and handed back the phone to Wong Xue Guo. “That’s not the problem. Who will be paying? Do we need to buy for those guys too?”
Even if one says that money no longer has much value in the apocalypse era, they still do not want to spend their money. Especially when they still need to buy more than twenty people’s portions!
But when they glance at the big boss, they do not dare to open their mouth and ask for money.
“I could cook,” Chen Yibo offered, as he had early on intended to cook lunch before Charles Wong and his gang arrived. It was fortunate that Suzie Yap had the foresight to order groceries to be delivered to the villa before their arrival or else they would have to eat their own supplies.

“Cook for twenty plus people? You will die,” Wong Xue Guo injected.
“I won’t die.”
Wong Xue Guo ignored Chen Yibo and spoke of her own desire. “I want to eat McDonald’s.”
“Hong Yan, go buy it.”
“Righto!”
Wong Xue Guo was shocked. Her father was busy discussing things with Aurora at the side, so how did he hear their conversation? Was his hearing too sharp? And he just agreed to let them eat McDonald’s?
Her father, Charles Wong, who only eats Chinese dishes and had the rest of his family follow his diet had just agreed to eat fast food?
Wong Xue Guo: Wow. Truly the end of the world indeed.
“Then our lunch is settled!” Kang Xunsu immediately looked relaxed once they had someone paying for their meal.
“You are the same old cheapskate, Xunsu!” Hong Yan called out at the entrance.
“Saving money is good!” Kang Xunsu hollered back without shame.
“Hong Yan, go and buy the food quickly,” Lan Yan interrupted her brother, who quickly gathered a few of his buddies and went to buy their meal.
“Luckily the electricity is still working,” Noodle mumbled rather pitifully. “I think I can survive without the internet if I persist.”
Wong Xue Guo offered, “I could share my internet-”
“Thank you, princess!”
“... Just call me by my name.”
“But Brother Xunsu calls you that.”
“I’m different from you,” Kang Xunsu drawled, looking rather prideful.
“Because you stubbornly insist on calling me that,” Wong Xue Guo retorted. “Come on, Yibo. Let’s go clean up.”
Chen Yibo also thinks that his current state was also not good with meeting people, so he agreed. When he stepped into his room, he was suddenly pushed from the back with someone following him in.
“Xue Guo?” Chen Yibo watched Wong Xue Guo close the door before facing him.
“I will accompany you while you shower.”
Chen Yibo nearly got a heart attack after hearing that. Accompany? She did not mean showering with him, right?!
“Why are you not moving? I’m staying here to make sure no one gets ambushed while being alone. You don’t expect me to follow you into the bathroom, right?” Only when she sat down on the chair and looked at him strangely did he relax.
“Thank you.”
“Welcome. I hope you will do the same for me.”
“This… isn’t rather appropriate, isn’t it? You can ask Aurora or Nana to accompany you.”
“Nah, they are busy. Plus, I trust you will not do anything inappropriate to me.” Wong Xue Guo pulled out her phone and sent a message to her father at the family group chat.
Xue Guo: Father, the hard disk mother gave me is in my bag. I’m not sure if I should just outright pass it to you with everyone looking.
Wong Xue Guo was thinking about how to say the next sentence when her mother joined in.
Suzie: Baby is smart!
Suzie: Baby should not trust people so easily. But you can trust your parents and Yibo.
Wong Xue Guo secretly thought that whatever her father did to anger her mother does not mean she had lost her trust in her husband. So whatever her father did was not very severe. But why does her mother trust Chen Yibo so much?
Did his good boy image get so strong that even her mother got won over?
The good boy Chen Yibo had already started showering, knowing that he was unable to persuade her to get another male bodyguard to guard him while he shower. But he feels there was something weird about how Wong Xue Guo would trust him this much when she seems to despise him.
Xue Guo: Okay.
Charles: I will go to your room later.
Xue Guo: Okay.
Thinking that her father’s ‘later’ will be after discussing things with Aurora and Kang Xunsu, she became relaxed and no longer in a hurry to go back to her room.
“Hey, Yibo.” Wong Xue Guo called out.
“What is it?” Chen Yibo replied through the sound of water.
“Just checking if you are still in there,” Wong Xue Guo replied carelessly and turned her attention back to her phone.
Xue Guo: Mother, do animals turn into zombies?
After a few seconds of sending the message did she only start to ponder if her father knew about his wife’s time travel. It would definitely be strange if Suzie Yap suddenly knew many things.
Shit. Was it too late to retract her message?
Her mobile vibrated and seeing her father was the one that replied, she knew it was too late.
Charles: No. I will buy some chicks for you to play with.
Huh? (・・ )?

Dungeon's Path
The only places I have posted the story and allow it to exist are on RoyalRoad, Scribblehub, and my Patreon. So the world ended. Whoopsie? We didn’t even see it coming. Quite literally as it came at us faster than the speed of light. Don’t worry though, it got better. Also, I am not joking about the world ending. Most people say that and mean humans are inconvenienced for some reason. Nope, all matter disintegrated at the atomic scale there for a few moments. Apparently the local universe wasn’t actually stable? Don’t ask me to go into too much detail. It would require both of us to have a few more college degrees than sense, and I at least lack them (both the degrees and the sense). Anyway, the energy/matter/wibbly wobbly strings were at a local minimum and not the universal minimum. Basically, what we took for sea level was actually a nice little mountain lake and when the dam busted so did, well, everything. Now here is where things go a bit off track with what normal meant before. You see magic is real, qi is real, gods are real. Not on old Earth mind you but souls pay little attention to time and space so we dreamed of it. In fact, the closer the shift in reality got to Earth, the closer our dreams got to the new reality. This is basically me tip toeing around the fact that it was a ‘System Apocalypse’. Reality became a video game, I became a dungeon, and this is my story. Doyle Huxley just wanted a normal life but as the above might clue you in on that just isn’t in the cards. He gets to experience a “Path Based System Apocalypse” and some early paths he takes, both literally and figuratively, lead to him becoming a dungeon. The aim is to release chapters once a week on Friday. Cursing will be avoided and no naughty adult action will take place in the story.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
