XG 63 - Miu was their answer sheet
Since their arrival, Suzie Yap and Charles Wong have been actively helping out at the laboratory. The couple may not have scientific knowledge but they still remember some things that will be helpful to the researchers.
Of course, no one would listen to people with no scientific background even if the said person was one of the laboratory’s directors. But it was a different thing when Mr. Chen, the head of the research department and also one of the directors, supports Charles on the front. He was well respected among the researchers in Musihada Laboratory and most of them were willing to trust his judgment.
As for the other three directors of Musihada Laboratory, they were not easy to get cooperation from, that was until Mr. Chen proved some valuable and solid evidence from the new information. From what the Wong couple had revealed about the ‘future’, he managed to dissect and rationalize them after a sleepless night of thinking.
With the other directors being won over, the remaining dissatisfied researchers no longer argue about Mr. Chen’s sudden change of dictatorship and followed the new direction of the research. The researchers became more accepting when they saw the results and became more excited about their work finally had a clearer sight of the goal. They were so excited they forgot to eat their meals on time and even forgot they needed to sleep.
Even Chen Yiwen had worked himself hard, to the extent he just took a short nap to replace a good night's sleep. Despite his insistence that he was fine with it, Chen Yibo started to supervise his brother's daily needs.
As for Wong Xue Guo, she continued training with Chen Yibo under the supervision of Kang Xunsu. Sometimes, Suzie Yap will take a break from the research and watch their training as a form of relaxation. She would occasionally give pointers when she disapproved of Kang Xunsu’s method of teaching.
Under Suzie Yap's suggestion, they learned one or two nasty tricks in case they meet a dangerous opponent in the future.
"Mother, do you have the gene?" Wong Xue Guo asked curiously during a short break Suzie Yap insisted she take between her training.
Kang Xunsu had gone somewhere, so only the people that knew her parents had time traveled remained in the training room.
As time went by, Wong Xue Guo slowly got more comfortable with her affectionate mother and started asking some questions without being prompted by the situation.
“Hmm, yes. Mommy has super strength.” Suzie Yap laughed, clearly fond of it. “I had demolished an entire building when I still could not control it well. Your father does not even dare to let me hug him after I accidentally broke his arm.”

Although it was a good opportunity, Wong Xue Guo still does not dare to ask why her mother was angry with her father. Her anger towards him was reduced after they reunited with passion rekindled, but to her relief, her mother still treated her the same.
“Mother has a very useful ability,” Wong Xue Guo praised in admiration. “What about father?”
“Your father’s… very tricky.” There was a hint of envy in Suzie Yap’s voice. “He could control metal and change its shape to whatever he wanted.”
“That’s cool,” Wong Xue Guo voiced out her true thoughts. “If Father made a large metal ball, Mother could throw it at the zombies, squashing them like a giant bowling ball.”
When silence descends, she starts to regret voicing out her silly idea. Especially when Chen Yibo, who was seated not far away, smiled to himself.
“That is actually a good idea,” Suzie Yap exclaimed in joy and for the first time, Wong Xue Guo could not see if her mother really meant what she said or not. “At the beginning, our teamwork is a mess when we use our abilities together. I was going to punch at a failure, but he suddenly threw a metal pole at my target. He had me run around twice because he always steals my kills.”
Acting like a good listener, Wong Xue Guo just smiled and did not comment about her parents’ antics.
But what she did not know was her parents only had clashed two times before their years of teamwork came out to play. Their abilities, mixed with their teamwork, were very well known to all survival bases and they were widely regarded as heroes.
The researchers failed to find the cure, and with the lack of resources, they had only discovered the way to awaken their gene without needing to get bitten in the sixth year of the apocalypse. Their result gave the remaining humans some relief and hope, but it was still not enough.
The mastermind of the apocalypse relentlessly forced them to the edge of the cliff, forcing Chen Yiwen, Suzie Yap and Charles Wong to sacrifice their lives to send their memories back to their younger selves to have them change their future.
Although it was horrible to say it, the researchers do not need to work that hard and ruin their health. However, Charles Wong refuses to let them slack off and work them hard while maintaining the same level of concentration. He even used the news of people dying every hour to stir their guilt and even dropped threats of removing useless people from the lab as motivation to work themselves harder.

They need to have the advantage over the mastermind and awakening their gene years ahead was an important step to retaliate. They could not let themselves continue being the weak party and sit around waiting to be slaughtered.
Vihaan’s awakened gene was a great help for the researchers to check what was the difference between his body and an uninfected person. Miu, the woman with the self-awakened ability to see the past and future, will help the research in checking whether they were in the right direction or not. Her ability allowed the researchers to know the result ahead of time so that they will save time in doing an unsuccessful experiment.
In a way, Miu was their answer sheet.
In the original future, scientists from all over the world could have worked together to share their information and technology, but humans at that time were more selfish with their own benefits and they caused a great mess.
It was also that mess that killed off many talented researchers to maintain their own value. As for this time? They do not even have enough time to do research, why would they bother doing something thankless?
“Mother…” Wong Xue Guo hesitated. “Do you know where grandmother-” The vibration of the mobile phone stopped her. Even when her mobile phone was now severely limited in usage, she was used to carrying her phone around and unable to remove the feeling of loss if she did not take it with her.
Suzie Yap already understood what her daughter wanted to ask. “Your father had asked your grandmother to come with us, but she refused. She could protect herself, so we did not stop her from doing what she wanted. If she wants to find us, she has her own way.”
Wong Xue Guo smiled humorlessly after reading the message she received. “Grandmother is in Japan.”
Hearing that her daughter had received a reply from her mother-in-law, Suzie Yap was surprised. In the first timeline, after being rejected by her mother-in-law to ask her to follow them, they no longer contact each other. They were worried for the elderly woman since she was also on the listed death list, but not even her only son that inherited her headstrong character could change her mind.
With her heart and mind tormented with the knowledge of her daughter’s death, Suzie Yap chooses not to worry so much about her mother-in-law.
But to think she would go to Japan?
“Did your grandmother say anything else?”
“She says she will come to find me after she is done with her business,” Wong Xue Guo answered, a little confused. There was no explanation of why she would be in Japan and what her business was.
Suzie Yap knew that her mother-in-law hated Japan, even if she was born and lived her early years in that country. For a woman that has a dark and painful history in Japan, what made her run to that country when the apocalypse arrived?
The only thing she could think of was revenge, even if most of the people that had a hand in creating bad memories for her mother-in-law were already dead. It might be because the building where the source of her dark memories lies was still there that her mother-in-law might choose to return that place to demolish it.
After their short session of training, Suzie Yap voiced her curiosity about how the chick that her daughter picked looked like and wanted to see it.
Wong Xue Guo had actually heard from Chen Yiwen why there were a lot of different animals in the laboratory area. Most of them were actually used as test subjects for their medicine before sending it to the World Health organization to test whether it will be approved or not.
But now that food was becoming scarce, they no longer used the animals as the test subjects and let them breed more as their food. It also helped that the animals do not have that gene that created the apocalypse and was not considered as food by zombies.
She had counted there were two new chicks added and wondered if she should give up the little chick now and avoid the risk of heartbreak when she needs to cook it later.
Yet, everyone was genuinely supportive about her having a chick pet and she does not dare to voice out her real thoughts, fearing they will think she will be ungrateful or have a princess tantrum. She decided to put aside the matter since she knew when they have no more chickens to eat, her ‘pet’ will definitely be cooked.
They can call her a selfless princess for all she cares when that time comes after she agrees to kill the chick.
There was a young woman caressing a brown horse when they passed by as they headed to where the chicks were. No one had the thoughts to stop, but the woman had a different thought upon seeing their arrival.
