XG 64 - Which naïve rich Miss is this?
“Hello.” The young woman had a soft voice with pure, sparkling eyes. She looked to be in her early twenties, the period where she had just bloomed from a girl into a woman with innocent curiosity towards the world.
Suzie Yap stopped and returned a polite yet distant, “Hello.” Her Korean was quite native sounding, and Wong Xue Guo suddenly felt a sense of crisis.
Should she start learning Korean?
If she had known she would stay in Korea for a long time, she would have watched some Korean dramas to self-learn the language, even if what she ends up learning might be cuss words.
At least it would be better than nothing, right?
Unlike their dark clothing that will fit well in rough work and exercise, the woman was dressed entirely in white, except for her pale pink fur jacket and similarly colored winter boots. The color of her clothing makes her brighter when paired with her smile.
Which naïve rich Miss is this?
Wong Xue Guo conveniently forgot she was also a rich miss, especially when it comes to secretly mock people inside her mind. She had no dislike towards this friendly lady, but she just wanted to shake her head at the lady for picking the color of her attire that was not friendly towards the dirt.
“I have seen them a few times when I visited Capricorn.” The horse, Capricorn, nudged at the woman when it heard its name. The woman eyed Wong Xue Guo and Chen Yibo with a friendly smile. “My name is Choi Yerim.”
Suzie Yap carefully hid her flash of recognition and slowly smiled. “Suzie Yap. These are my children.”
Taking Suzie Yap’s reply as an invitation, Choi Yerim stepped closer towards them. “Could we be friends? Everyone is busy with their job and I don’t want to disturb them. I’m a bit lonely and look forward to some idle chit-chat during my free time.”
“Everyone is busy, but if we happen to meet, let’s do that.” Suzie Yap did not reject or agree with it. After all, if she makes sure not to encounter Choi Yerim, they will have no chance to speak.
When they finally left Choi Yerim, the curious Wong Xue Guo wanted to ask Chen Yibo to translate their conversation. Before she could, Suzie Yap had taken the initiative to satisfy her daughter’s curiosity.

“That woman is Choi Yerim, the granddaughter of Director Choi. She is one of the family members that are fortunate to be brought to base in time.”
“… Mother, you knew her?” Her mother’s tone when mentioning Choi Yerim was not quite neutral or friendly.
Suzie Yap’s smile was similar to a sneer. “She’s one of your father’s little tails.”
“… Oh.”
She immediately understood that Choi Yerim was one of her father’s female fans and it would be wise to not be friendly with her. For once, she was happy with the language barrier, in case the other woman decides to get closer to her just to create an opportunity to speak to her father.
Thinking about how messy couple relationships were in the apocalypse movies she had seen, she wondered how intense it would be for her good-looking and strong parents. How many males and females would try to climb onto her parent’s bed? How will her parents face-slap those shameless and opportunist people?
Aiyah, why is she getting rather excited to see it?
Suzie Yap could still remember how messy relationships were when people’s morals deteriorated in the name of survival. The Wong couple were popular during the apocalypse era. The stronger they became, the more well-known they were. Fame, wealth, resources, they had gotten more of it. Which includes the increasing amount of bootlickers and relationship wreckers circling around them like annoying flies.
Most of her time was spent dealing with those opportunist females that set their eyes on her husband, shamelessly trying to cling onto his thigh. It was good that Charles Wong paid no attention to them, or else Suzie Yap will find no peace in dealing with those whores.
Among those women, Choi Yerim was considered to be the best looking with a virtuous character. Yet, she still dared to eye a married man whose wife was still alive and kicking despite her upbringing.
Choi Yerim had been very popular and well-liked for her innocence and friendliness in Musihada laboratory, thus she was given the special privilege to access many top-level entry places. There had been stories about her rejecting every single man that had confessed to her, yet was not detested by her turned-down suitors as everyone was equally rejected.
That was until she met Charles Wong.
Choi Yerim was not a vain child that believes everyone should pay attention to her. But none of them was as cold and indifferent to her as Charles Wong did. He had only spared a glance at her when her grandfather introduced her to him, and no more.

It was at that moment, a spark of curiosity lit in her heart. Often, she wonders about this cold man with a fearsome aura that gave people the impression that he could kill without a blink of an eye. Even after knowing he could really do so, she was not afraid as she believe he will not harm her innocent self and grew to be curious about this complicated man whose ice could not be thawed by anyone but his wife.
Unable to stop her curiosity which was at the borderline of turning into infatuation, she approached Charles Wong with the intention to befriend him. She knew he had a wife, but she would not stop her husband from making friends because of jealousy, right?
But before her friendliness, Charles Wong did not spare her any face and dismissed her as if she was a nuisance. Her soft, glossy face expressed hurt from Charles Wong’s rejection, and she silently held back her grievance that had the onlookers grow to pity her despite her actions were not deemed to be morally encouraged.
It so happens that tonight was where the incident was going the same way as Suzie Yap remembered. Tonight’s small celebratory feast was held to celebrate the researcher’s breakthrough.
Miraculously, after twenty-three days of intense research guided by Charles Wong’s advice, the scientists finally found a theory to awaken a person’s gene, much to everyone’s excitement.
It was mostly thanks to Miu, whose ability was similar to an answer sheet that guided them to the right method.
Genome editing, also known as gene editing, was almost a taboo subject in every country as it goes against human ethics. But no one knows whether the other scientist would still research it behind closed doors. They had caught onto some news that the United Kingdom had researched it, with no clarification whether it was true or not.
In the Musihada Lab, one of the researchers, Jackson, used to work in the United Kingdom, but he refused to comment about it when questioned by his new colleagues.
But once they figured out that it was an unknown gene that transformed humans into monsters, and the way to cure them was to deactivate the gene, Jackson’s contribution to the research increased. Everyone tacitly did not mention how Jackson would know so much about the subject, even when some feel uncomfortable with it.
With the virus rampaging around the world, they had to defy human ethics to save everyone.
They could only succeed in getting this far with their research because their lab had the most complete technology that many scientists would envy. Vihaan’s activated gene was also a great contribution to their research result, and fortunately for Vihaan, they knew how to do gene cloning.
Even so, activating a gene was very much easier when compared to inactivating them, much to their headache. Activating the gene allows them to gather fighters to kill those monsters, but without the ability to cure the infected people, the number of humankind will drastically decrease.
Despite the breakthrough, the research had to be paused. It was not because there was a small group of researchers protesting about the ethical conduct of the research that the method had to be temporarily placed aside. Although they had an untested method with a probability of eighty percent success, they had no human volunteers, as well as proof that awakening the gene will not have side effects.
In addition to that, they were still researching a way to check who had the gene and who did not have it. Spotting inactivated gene was surprisingly harder than figuring out the theory of awakening the gene.
It lasted until Charles Wong shut them all up by offering himself to be the test subject. Chen Zhang Bei also offered himself, which many people refused initially, but in the end, accepted. They do not have the choice, since Chen Zhang Bei knew from his friend that he does not have the gene while Charles has it. It will be easier to check for the gene using them as the reference.
Tonight’s small party was just a way to relax the overworked researchers before they start the next phase of groveling research where breaks would be rare.

[Adventure, Wuxia, Martial Arts, Fantasy] For those not in the know, this is a book with some western and eastern fantasy sprinkled in. This is a work coming from someone who's a long time fan of the genre and would like to add my own flavor and spin to it, and I particularly dislike the shallow xianxia characterization and development. To counteract that is about eighty percent of the reason I'm writing this. The beginning might be a slow burn but I promise I'm bringing up some awesome scenes and moments once you're invested. Again, this is not some fast food xianxia. But I can say that as a lover of the genre I won't be completely shying away from the stuff that got myself hooked into it in the first place.
