《The day I became World Administrator》5. Mana

The sun was already starting to turn orange and set when Isaac finally reached the edge of the nearest forest. At first interested in his surroundings and the view he could admire, he slowly grew weary.
After several minutes of observation, he was able to confirm his location. The plain he was in appeared to be a large plateau overlooking a large mountain.
In the distance, Isaac could see very large, steep cliffs, making their climb probably very difficult, bordering the plain. At first glance, the plains gave the impression of infinity, but with hindsight and time, this impression actually arose from the fact that the border between the "High Plains", as Isaac called them, and the " Wild Plains "was easily missed.
Considering the height of the High Plains compared to the proximity of the clouds in the sky, it was quite unlikely that people would live nearby. Not only because of the altitude, the cliffs but also because of the scarcity of air.
Although Isaac did not seem to suffer from any lack of oxygen, the hypothesis that the famous white aura surrounding him could protect him from such a vice would be the most plausible.
"Once you've found a source of food and water, explore the surroundings and look for life," he had established as he thought of a to-do list.
Throughout his walk, Isaac did nothing but admire, observe, and map in his mind all that seemed to matter. The distance to the nearest lake for example, but also any plants and animals.
Oddly, there didn't seem to be any animals which was relatively normal at this altitude, however, the plants he encountered were far from normal. On the whole of his walk, Isaac did not notice any that he knew.
Although he did not have extensive knowledge in botany and herbalism, he is still relatively competent to be able to recognize the majority of plants. But all the plants he came across were unknown to him.
More importantly, they all gave off a special, intoxicating, and alluring scent, giving off a pretty special natural scent without being overwhelming. Fearing that this scent would be a way for plants to hunt animals and lure them into a trap, Isaac had the immediate reflex to move away as quickly as possible.
However, after the third flower having the same effect, the young man began to doubt: "A flower that hunts with perfume, okay ... But three in a row? If it's a coincidence, I am really badly ... "
The marks of pain still very present in his mind, Isaac did not dare to approach the flower of a bright yellow which overhung the grass which surrounded it. Yet despite this, curiosity seemed to prevail: "She reminds me of something ..." he thought as he continued his approach, slowly and quietly.

- "Floral experiment # 35. The flower seems to secrete a surplus of energy unlike the previous ten trials, but so far, does not seem to be able to reach plant maturity. Natural reproduction not possible. Final decision: Fail."

[System] End of message.
The Admin's voice suddenly echoing in Isaac's mind made him jump in surprise, causing him to take a few steps back as he searched for where the voice was coming from before realizing it was coming from everywhere at once. .
"Failed?" Isaac thought, intrigued by the message. "It's ... a research note? But if it's one of Admin's experiments, then that means ..."
Immediately, the young man ran to the two previous flowers he had crossed but from which he had very quickly moved away. After getting a little closer, the same thing happened.
- "Floral experiment n ° 21. New plant species! It seems to be able to create spores and reproduce, nevertheless the reproduction cycle seems very long. Specimen to watch. I nevertheless denote relatively powerful defense capacities."
"Defense ability" he thought as he approached the flower. Upon contact with the petals, the white aura enveloping Isaac suddenly began to vibrate and a sudden burst of energy began to surround the surroundings.
The flower and the plants around suddenly began to burn in contact with the energy given off by the aura while on his side, Isaac felt a new sensation run through his body.
Much like the body reacting to an inhospitable environment giving a great urge to turn around, it instinctively felt in danger. Not enough to force him to run though.
Isaac watched as the aura spread around him for a radius of about 2 meters, burning almost everything in its path before Isaac came out of his trance. He then turned to the flower to see what was going on before his eyes widened and jumped back.
In front of him, the entire flower bush was caught in a fiery orange fire, the flames of which seemed to fight the white aura given off by Isaac. Like two waves seeking to consume the other, the two forces tirelessly continued their fight without being interested in anything else.
"Is he defending himself?" he thought as he watched the flames. "So that's why he was saying defense capability ... If they can reproduce, it would be a good idea to plant them in a circle around my house." he took a mental note.
He then looked around him and in particular the white aura, intrigued by the strange feeling which tickled the back of his head. Slowly closing his eyes and focusing on his emotions, Isaac began by isolating this strange sensation.
After a few moments, once that sensation was isolated, he concentrated on ignoring it or countering it, as trying to forget its existence or to replace it with something else: "It's a good flower ... it's a nice flower. I have nothing to fear. "
Gradually, the feeling of danger slowly diluted before disappearing completely after a few seconds. Isaac then decided to open his eyes and observed the flower bush, still emitting flames but this time in a very moderate way.

The flames barely extended an inch from the surface of the leaves and petals of the bush, while around him, Isaac's aura seemed to float through the air, like smoke. Calm and serene, sailing around the bush without even touching it as if it did not exist.
Isaac then frowned slightly, a small smile on his face before turning and walking away, heading towards the other flower he had crossed. After a few minutes of walking he passed her and again the Admin's voice rang out.
- "Floral experiment # 20. A dismal failure. The specimen is unable to survive without an external mana supply. To be kept for possible posterity."
"Without an external power supply?" he thought before resuming. "So that's it! This world has magic! HA." he gasped in jubilation, hopping lightly. "Real magic, with spells and arcana ! "
After a few seconds, Isaac slowly came to his senses and began to examine the flower more closely. Up close, the plant did not appear to have any special features, but what jumped out to the young man was not the plant, but the earth.
"The scent does not come from the flower but from the earth?" he wondered.
With his hands, Isaac then began to dig the ground, trying to dig up the plant and find what seemed to give off this odd smell. "If it needs a mana supply, then that means there is a source of mana nearby ..."
Quickly, his guess was revealed when a blue glow began to shine from beneath the earth. Isaac then accelerated and began to dig faster before he could finally grab something under the ground. He immediately pulled and brought to the surface a strange blue sphere about a foot in diameter.
The sphere emitting the glow was also leaking a strange smoke of the same color as it, like liquid nitrogen in the open air. The smoke slowly floated through the air before finally dissipating.
"It smells so good," Isaac thought almost immediately. "So that's what gave energy to this flower ... So this smoke is mana!" He then began to snort the smoke. "That smell! So the smell I've been smelling all along is mana."
Concentrated on the sphere in his hands, the young man hardly had time to notice what seemed to be happening around him. The white aura that enveloped Isaac had now contracted and white filaments formed. One by one, they fixed themselves on the surface of the sphere.
The next moment Isaac looked up and noticed what was happening. In the corner of his mind, an intense feeling of comfort filled his mind, as if he was eating and savoring his favorite meals. Disturbed by this sensation, he then looked at the sphere in his hands, noticing that it seemed to present at half of its original size.
"What is happening ?" he thought immediately.
Unable to know what to do in the moment, the white filaments continued to absorb the sphere. In a few seconds, the sphere went from about thirty centimeters to about fifteen, then 5 centimeters. In less than 10 seconds, the sphere disappeared entirely before a window appeared in front of Isaac.

Immediately, Isaac felt his mind be taken over by an unfamiliar sensation, like that felt after having accomplished an achievement: A revised class, a finished workout. The sensation compared to it but not completely, more like satisfaction mixed with a form of envy.
Meanwhile, as a background task, Isaac could feel some sort of virtual reservoir fill with a strange blue liquid in his mind. As a new extension of himself, Isaac could sense a new variety of sounds, tastes, smells and colors all around him.
His blue eyes then suddenly began to shine, blue air currents and smoke appeared all over the place. Veins and rivers flowing under his feet, in the sky, in the earth, in the grasses and in the trees. Everywhere he could look was a stream of mana and energy. While he was amazed, a window appeared.

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Wars brew, betrayal is at each corner, shadows step into the light, a supernatural force awaits the time to strike. Awakening an ancient civilization from their past may be their only hope now. A spiraling doom awaits the world of Isulia. **************** I put the gore and traumatizing warnings not because my book is overly gory. However, there are a few moments that may be traumatizing to some people. As for the gore, it shows up fairly often but not extensively. I've always loved violence in movies and books, (The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with gore. So be warned :) I have multiple MC and as a nooby writer, I've had a harder time writing from a female POV. Just a heads up. Don't kill me if I make the woman in my book seem weird. After the Long Burn
After the longest exodus in human history, a terrible accident threatens to turn the salvation of humanity into its most desperate struggle for survival. From the ashes of calamity rises a new human story. A frustrated scientist dedicates her life to recreating the Earth in alien soil, while another is gunned down for his sin and sets off a chain of events culminating in a desperate escape across the void for an opportunity at redemption. Around a distant moon a deep space miner stumbles onto a secret, the key to which lies buried inside his own tortured mind. After the Long Burn is an anthology of short science fiction stories set in the distant Ionad System. Author's Note: I thought I might try something a little different with this story. Rather than one story, it is six stories of varying length, each taking a slightly different perspective to tell a larger story. Some are more actioney, others more cerebral but I hope there will be something for everyone. Stories over 7000 words, with the exception of the titular After the Long Burn, will be published in two parts. I anticipate an upload schedule of one part every other day.

Children of The Sky: Heartcore
In the realm of Yggdrasil, there exist nine worlds. Each and every world has unique stories to tell, but there was one that stood out--The Floating World of Speir. In the land of Speir, the impossible does not exist; this world has given birth to thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of tales, fables, and legends. The fight for the fate of the world is a common occurrence and the neverending stories of the people which reside in it were all, by itself, always unique and interesting. Now, after many aeons have passed, the world has changed. Not only the power of magic could shape reality, technology also has the ability to change the world with just a thought. And from the world where futuristic technology meets magic, I have chosen to tell you a story, a story picked from countless others. This is the story of a boy who recently entered the prestigious, and the most powerful academy in all of the nine worlds--Yggdrasil Academy, to fufill his dream. What is his dream, you might ask. Well, allow me to show you the life of Reynard Foxtale, one of The Children of The Sky. *Warning. For those who don't like lengthy explanations or long talks, this might not suit your taste. However, the setting of my story does not adhere to most of the main stream fantasy/sci-fi settings. So, you might find my ideas unique or a little too weird and complicated or both. Whatever opinions you might have, I truly thank all of you who are willing to spend your time to read my story. *The cover (which is a picture I do not own) is not in any way an accurate depiction of the world in the story. P/S I will post this story on FictionPress as well. P/P/S I'm relatively new to this website, so if I made any obvious (to regulars) mistakes, please tell me. P/P/P/S Will update every two weeks. *Important: In Hiatus for now. **13/7/2017 Update. Check chapter nine (and maybe ten) post-chapter note.
