Chapter 1723: Venerable Sovereigns
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
He might be a great alchemist, but that didn’t mean he could defeat Venerable Sovereigns.
Relations between Immortal Alchemists and Venerable Sovereigns were supposed to be respectful. Sensible Immortal Alchemists would never risk offending Venerable Sovereigns.
This was especially true when one was dealing with a hot-tempered Venerable Sovereign like Qi Lie. Master Wu would never have had the nerve to tell him to kneel.
Struck dumb at first, Qi Lie finally came to himself. He stared at Jiang Chen. “You’re asking to die.”
Fengdan had a bitter taste in her mouth. She couldn’t be happier than she was now seeing Jiang Chen about to get himself killed.
“Didn’t you hear me?” Ignoring everyone else’s surprised looks, Jiang Chen sized up Qi Lie as he took the immortal elixirs. “Do you want to be the second Venerable Sovereign whose legs are broken by me?” he continued.
Every single one of the onlookers thought this must be a bad joke.
“Does he really think it would be so easy to break a Venerable Sovereign’s legs?”
However, they didn’t dare laugh out loud.
After all, Jiang Chen had been able to refine immortal elixirs all by himself in such a short time. Who knew, maybe he could shock all these people who had gathered to watch this again?
“Venerable Sovereigns can’t stand to be insulted. Perhaps you’ve heard about this before?” Qi Lie’s temper was beginning to really flare up, but he’d decided to explain first because he was feeling a little bit wary of Jiang Chen’s identity as an Immortal Alchemist.
“Of course I’ve heard of this before. Actually, I was told the same thing by some other guy, and then I killed him,” Jiang Chen said with a cold smile.
Qi Lie let out a big breath. Forcing a smile, he said, “Then show me what you’ve got, and we’ll see if it’s enough to break my legs.”
The air became charged with tension immediately.
No one dared make any noise. They were all looking at Jiang Chen, wondering what this trash-talker would do next.
“Your Excellency, fights are forbidden in the City in the Sky. You’ll be driven out of here if you fight,” Mrs. Xiao said.

The City in the Sky only maintained its ability to remain buoyant if it moved constantly. If a big fight broke out and a leak or some other fault occurred, the whole city could be destroyed as it fell from the air.
So, no matter whether there was a reason and no matter whether the reason was justifiable, whoever fought in the city had to be driven away immediately.
“Doesn’t matter.” Jiang Chen shrugged his shoulders. It was not a problem for him. He figured he could just take his opponent out of the city and give him a good beating.
However, he still needed one more minute for his body to completely recover. For this reason, he didn’t do anything after speaking. He just went on standing there.
All the onlookers regarded each other with surprise, wondering whether this was going to be all there was to this fight.
“Are you gonna break my legs?” Qi Lie taunted Jiang Chen.
Some people burst out laughing, forgetting their fear. Then, recalling that Jiang Chen was an Immortal Alchemist, they all shut up again.
“You’ll know very soon,” said Jiang Chen.
“I’m not interested in listening to you talk any more trash,” Qi Lie said, walking toward Jiang Chen, lifting his head and throwing his shoulders back.
He seemed to be strutting like a parrot. However, just when everyone thought that he was going to do something to Jiang Chen, he completely ignored him and walked toward Master Wu instead.
He’d intended to scare Jiang Chen, but of course Jiang Chen wasn’t affected at all.
Snorting, Qi Lie helped Master Wu get to his feet.
Master Wu finally accepted the fact that he’d been trounced. He stopped being arrogant and walked up to Jiang Chen.
“Master, is the refining method you just used called the legendary Hand of Heaven?” he asked seriously.
“I’ve never heard of the legendary Hand of Heaven.”
This skill he had just used was the fruit of all the hard work he’d done in his entire life. He had not named it yet.
“Could you instruct me a little in how to do it?” Master Wu asked expectantly, eager for new knowledge.
“What do you think?”
This was funny for Jiang Chen. He was still waiting to give Qi Lie a beating.

Master Wu was quite disappointed, and he felt remorseful too.
“Master! We don’t need anything from him!” Fengdan came up to Master Wu. She said, “I bet he only knows how to do it, but doesn’t know the principle on which the method is based. He certainly wouldn’t be able to instruct you, Master.”
What she meant was that Jiang Chen had only mastered the skill, but he would have needed much more practice and work in order to comprehend its theory and the core of the skill.
Only after he’d acquired those skills would he be qualified to teach others.
Master Wu smiled bitterly. Maybe this was true, but he was sure that even a casual remark from Jiang Chen could enlighten him to a great extent.
“Boss!”
At this moment, someone walked into the alchemists’ room in haste.
“Long Teng, Senior Qiu Li’s apprentice, has been attacked at the city lord’s mansion. His life is hanging by a thread. The city lord needs some miraculous elixir that can save his life.”
The news he brought made everyone turn pale. They forgot about Jiang Chen for the moment.
“Long Teng?”
Jiang Chen and Ye Sizhu exchanged a look. They could read the same expression on one another’s faces.
Long Teng was Ye Sizhu’s fiance. He’d been punched in the head by Jiang Chen and had gotten himself stuck in a wall.
Jiang Chen had thought that he’d only been heavily injured.
He definitely hadn’t expected that Long Teng would be dying.
“Did I fail to control my strength because I was injured?” Jiang Chen always had good control of his strength. He certainly would not go all-out when he was going to punch someone in the head.
But it didn’t matter to him if it had really been caused by him.
For Jiang Chen, it was only for Ye Sizhu’s sake that he hadn’t killed Long Teng.
He wouldn’t feel guilty at all if Long Teng really died.
He was just confused right now, because he didn’t believe that he could accidentally kill anyone.
“That’s tricky. Let’s go to the city lord’s mansion now.” The azure-clothed man convened all of the alchemists, especially those who were good at curing injuries.
He didn’t forget about Jiang Chen, an amazing Immortal Alchemist. He asked him to go with them also.
Jiang Chen glanced at Qi Lie. He nodded his agreement after a brief moment of consideration.
“Don’t worry. I won’t run away. Just come back to break my legs when it’s convenient for you. Any time.”
Qi Lie had noticed Jiang Chen’s look. He thought it was funny.
“That’s great,” said Jiang Chen.
“You just won’t admit that you can’t defeat Qi Lie,” Fengdan murmured to herself. In her opinion, Jiang Chen was no match for a Venerable Sovereign at all. He just liked to talk trash.
“Even though he was an Immortal Alchemist, so what? He would fail sooner or later.”
…..
The city lord’s mansion was just opposite the Danqing Tower. The group of alchemists who had gathered together walked across the street and entered the mansion.
In the lobby, all the inhabitants of the mansion were sighing, their faces downcast.
“Did we come too late?” Seeing this, the azure-clothed man wondered.
“Yes. Young Master Long Teng just passed away.” A voice that Jiang Chen had heard before had answered the azure-clothed man. It was the lord of the City in the Sky, Ye Sizhu’s father.
“Things got much worse.”
“His Excellency Qiu Li is not going to let it go easily.”
“Hasn’t the murderer been caught yet?”
“Qiu Li must have learned about his beloved apprentice’s death. He must be on his way here. If the city lord’s mansion can’t hand the murderer to him, we’ll be in big trouble.”
Jiang Chen heard some people whispering. Long Teng’s master, Qiu Li, seemed to be a big shot.
“An Extraordinary Supreme Venerable.”
Soon, Jiang Chen heard Qiu Li’s title.
When the title was mentioned, everyone turned pale.
Qi Lie was only a Senior Supreme Venerable. He would have to behave himself before an Extraordinary Supreme Venerable. Despite this, Qi Lie was still in a high position in the city.
“Where’s the body?” Jiang Chen suddenly asked, when everyone else was talking about the big challenge the City in the Sky would be facing.
Surprised looks were thrown at him.
“Why? Do you want to save a dead person’s life?” Qi Lie asked aggressively.

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.

Marakar
Far from the exploration he yearned to go on, Rae, the Kijah prince, finds himself in the middle of the impending war between Kijah'dar and Ga'ani. Unknown to him, or to the rest of the states, the Kijah Magister plots to overthrow the queen, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his plans. Marakar is a fantasy adventure series about the island states of Mar’narana (with focus primarily on the two states, Kijah'dar and Ga'ani). Tensions between the big players are rising, with more and more plots getting revealed, and powers are unexpectedly shifting. As the string of seemingly unconnected events grows taut, the smaller nations suddenly find themselves into the midst of things, struggling with the sudden shifting of their boards. On a more meta note, I am trying to develop two storylines parallel to each other. As you might have noticed, odd-numbered chapters are very different from even-numbered chapters. That’s because those are the two different storylines; odd-numbered chapters are in the present, while even-numbered ones are in the past. Once the two eventually meet I'll continue with just the present storyline. This story can also be found here where it currently updates every other Sunday (about twice a month). Feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read. :) tw/cw list (please take care of your mental health! Don't force yourself to read these chapters if they may harm you). -------> Chapter 14: hate crime description.
