Battling Records of the Chosen One Chapter 118: The Opponent of Camp 39
Lin Xun had been terribly beaten for the whole one hour. He was too numbed to feel the pain.
It was just a solo training, and Young Ke only displayed some hand-to-hand fighting techniques instead of performing her full strength, but it was already difficult enough for Lin Xun to handle.
Comparatively speaking, the fighting techniques of Shia Zhi were quite simple, direct and rough; however, the techniques taught by Young Ke were unimaginably queer, subtle and ruthless, by which one could kill the enemy in a single strike.
Lin Xun was seemingly beaten to ground over and over, but it was exactly the cruel training that accelerated his understanding of fight. No pains, no gains. Lin’s improvement under the oppression of Drillmaster Young Ke was a perfect example.
Lin Xun used to believe that the Manual to Break Tendons and Bones (MBTB) he had grasped was quite powerful. However, when he fought with a really mighty practitioner with superb fighting techniques, like Young Ke, he realized that he was too naive in the past.
The more he saw about his weakness, the eager he was to win.
During the whole hour of the horrible training, Lin Xun displayed indomitable willpower and amazing power of understanding. Even though he was always beaten to ground, his fighting techniques were slowly but obviously changing.
The changes were all noticed by Young Ke who didn’t say anything, but had a slightly different feeling in the heart.
On the very first day of training, she didn’t think highly of Lin Xun. Compared with other trainees, his cultivation was too low and fighting techniques were limited.
Young Ke didn’t believe that Lin Xun would make it to the end, even though he didn’t get kicked out in the first day.
The reason was quite obvious that, in terms of the accumulated points for this week, Lin Xun had always been bottom of Camp 39.
Young Ke didn’t pay any attention to him until last night when Young Man took him away.
Young Ke immediately replied with disapproval when Shu Sanqi told her that Lin Xun would assist Old Mo in upgrading the Ziying Battleship and would no longer participate in the following training in Camp 39.
Although Lin Xun was not excellent, he was still one of her trainees. She would not let her trainees be taken away by others.
Last night, Young Ke meant to take Lin Xun back. After she heard what Lin Xun and Young Man talked about, she changed her mind.
Why would it be Young Man who gave solo training to her trainee?
Young Ke could do it by herself!
Therefore, this afternoon the solo training started for the first time. From today onwards, this kind of solo training would continue every afternoon.
But Young Ke hadn’t expected that Lin Xun could display so indomitable willpower and incredible savvy of fighting. Taking all these into consideration, Young Ke changed her attitude towards Lin Xun unconsciously.

Perhaps, this lad could make it to the end?
Young Ke decided to wait and see.
One hour’s hand-to-hand fighting came to an end quickly, and Young Ke said, “Have a break; one hour later, I will take you to the No.10 Training Field.”
After saying that, she turned around and left. She paid no attention to Young Man who was standing afar for the whole time.
…
Lin Xun was lying on the ground, puffing hard, with numb body and glazed eyes, but his mind was unusually active, for the fighting scenes were flashing upon his mind.
“Get up quickly if you are not dead. No one will pity you even though you lie on the ground.” Young Man came over with folded arms; with delight, she looked at Lin Xun who was still suffering.
The glazed eyes of Lin Xun became gradually bright, and he murmured, “I have a feeling that I can make a breakthrough within three days!”
Young Man was a little surprised, looking at the lad with bloody nose and swollen face, as well as his bright eyes. A touch of tenderness ran across her look.
After all, he was just a lad of 13 or 14 years old. Who would like to admit defeat at this age?
Young Man crouched down and took a bottle of good medicine out, then personally applied it to Lin Xun who was covered in bruises, and said, “Why are you so eager to become stronger?”
Lin Xun didn’t decline her kindness; he exhaled comfortably, and then said, “Just to survive.”
His simple words had an influence on Young Man’s heart. She didn’t say anything, but silently applied the medicine to his bruises, with a clearly softer motion.
One hour later, in No.10 Training Field.
Lin Xun held a sword and began to kill the Golden-flame Spiders in high spirit. He was very agile.
Lin didn’t know where Young Man got this medicine, but its effect was marvelous. His bruises were all healed within one hour; otherwise, he couldn’t have sustained so intense and cruel training.
On the top of the mountain, Young Ke quietly watched what had happened.
“She is so nice to the lad, and even give him Black Jade Snow-melting Cream for wound treatment.” No one knew when the Fatty Middle-aged came.
“She felt guilty!” Young Ke said coldly.
“You shouldn’t blame Young Man for the past issues. We were so young at that time, just a little older than this lad. Why have you been bearing a grudge against her for the mistake she made at such an early age?”
“Some mistakes, once made, shall never be forgiven.” After saying it, Young Ke frowned, and then said, “Fatty, what do you come here for?”
Knowing clearly that Young Ke didn’t want to mention this again, Fatty Middle-aged sighed and said, “Monthly assessment rules have been settled, Camp 39 will be confronted by Camp 40 and the loser will be dismissed.”

Young Ke raised her eyebrows and said, “Is the Drillmaster of Camp 40 ‘Residual Wolf’?”
Fatty Middle-aged nodded, “Yes, no other but this insidious fellow. There are thirty-nine trainees, including many powerful persons, in his camp at present. In terms of the number of trainees, Camp 39 is at a complete disadvantage.”
Young Ke said in clam, “Number of people has never been the key to success, which I know very well.”
However, Fatty Middle-aged worried, “Young Ke, if you lose this time, not only will the Camp 39 be dismissed, but also you will be discharged from the position of drillmaster. You should have known what this means.”
Young Ke kept silent for a moment, looking at Lin Xun's sweaty figure in the training field, and then said, “I've never been interested in leaving the Bloodthirsty Camp.”
Fatty Middle-aged shook his head.
…
Until night fell, Lin Xun was sent back to Old Mo's warehouse. As soon as he returned, he collapsed in a chair because of exhaustion.
Too tired!
He had fought with Golden-flame Spiders for more than an hour this time, which made he on the verge of collapse and almost fell into a coma.
This kind of abnormal training made Lin Xun feel indescribable fatigue and numbness both physically and mentally.
Young Man had already prepared dinner and Lin Xun kept up his spirit, wolfing down all the food.
“Boy, I will begin to refine the new spiritual furnace tomorrow. You are a genius indeed. I have a hunch that if I follow your way, I will succeed this time.”
Old Mo came over with a cheerful face.
Lin Xun was absent-minded and said, “Old Mo, I can't help you more when you begin to refine the spiritual furnace, and it all depends on yourself.”
Old Mo was shocked, “You will not help me?”
Lin Xun said helplessly, “I am still a spiritual apprentice. How am I able to inscribe spiritual tattoo formations?”
Spiritual apprentice?
Old Mo stared at Lin Xun. “Are you kidding me, boy? You have thought out such a awesome solution and draw so many complicated spiritual tattoo formations. How can you say that you are just a spiritual apprentice?
Lin Xun sighed, “Why would I like to belittle myself?”
Old Mo was stunned, and then he pointed to his nose and cried out suddenly, “If you are a spiritual apprentice, does it mean that I am even inferior to a spiritual apprentice?”
Lin Xun wasn’t willing to talk any more for this old man was too competitive.
Old Mo looked at Lin Xun as if he was looking at a monster, and suddenly said, “You can concentrate on the path of being a spiritual tattooist by your means. You will enjoy endless wealth and be respected by millions of people in the future absolutely. Why did you come to the Bloodthirsty Camp for training? You are running after the less important things.”
Lin Xun asked, “What about you? Why do you stay in the Bloodthirsty Camp?”
Old Mo's face suddenly became a little complicated. He was slightly irritated, “I offended an old bastard and I was forced to stay here. But you are not like me!”
Lin Xun narrowed his eyes. Old Mo had an extremely high status in the Bloodthirsty Camp. How could such a person be forced to hide here? So who did he offend?
Lin Xun said after a while, “I'm really not like you. My purpose of coming to the Bloodthirsty Camp is very simple; namely, I won’t be forced to hide myself one day like you do….”
This answer seemed to be a little disrespectful to Old Mo, but he seemed to understand it all of a sudden and sighed, “If I owned the consciousness just like you have, I wouldn’t tie myself in knots nowadays.”
As he spoke, he turned away, with his hands clasped behind his back, and his thin figure showed somewhat bleak and lonely.
“Who on earth did Old Mo offend?” Lin Xun couldn't help asking Young Man.
“A high-ranking grandmaster of spiritual tattoos in the empire,” Young Man answered casually, as if it was not a secret.
Grandmaster of spiritual tattoos!
Lin Xun felt shocked. Grandmaster was vastly superior to the master of spiritual tattoos. No wonder Old Mo could only be forced to hide here. Offending a grandmaster of spiritual tattoos was much more serious than offending an overmatch in Tao Insight Realm!
…
From this day on, Lin Xun's life became very regular and also very hard and abnormal.
In the morning, Lin discussed the spiritual tattoo formations with Old Mo and put forward his own suggestions for the transformation of the spiritual furnace of the Ziying Battleship. Young Ke conducted various kinds of cruel training aiming at Lin Xun alone in the afternoon.
Even in the evening, he had to meditate and practice, temper his spirit and study martial arts… Lin Xun would like to break the time into two halves under such high-intensity operation.
Three days later.
Lin Xun smoothly broke through to the Xiao Zhoutian, the seventh level of Martial Realm.
This promotion let his strength produce a new transformation; only in the aspect of spiritual strength and thickness, he had been comparable to a top overmatch on the ninth level of Martial Realm.
Seeing this result, Young Man could not help but gaze at Lin Xun quietly. She said, “You are really a monster that can’t be judged by logical thinking. I wonder if you have any unawakened talent property in your body.”

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
