Gao Peng felt a chill in his heart. This Blood Eye Bearded Vulture’s name actually stated “Extremely Strong.” Of course, even using the naked eye, that was obvious enough from its appearance.
Unlike a normal vulture with an ugly bald head, this vulture’s white head of feathers made it look as though it was wearing a white top hat. Coupled with what looked like black eyeshadow and blood-red eyelids, it looked extremely cool and suave.
The vulture made no sudden attack against the female spider. Instead, it elegantly stood there and began gently preening its feathers with its sharp beak, removing all the dust from it.
Then, it cooed and elegantly stretched out its feathers before closing them toward the middle of its body. It hung its head low, as though mourning for something.
“What is it doing?” Gao Peng asked. This Blood Eye Bearded Vulture did not look like the usual lawless and savage wild monster. Instead, it gave off the impression of being extremely elegant and cultured.
It must just be a false impression…
“It’s mourning for these monsters,” said Uncle Liu plainly.
Gao Peng looked at Uncle Liu, then back at the vulture. “Why is it mourning?”
“Because it has watched too many movies…”
Beside them, Director Chen, Li Qing and Qin Yi could not help but steal a sideways glance at Uncle Liu. With a strange expression on his face, Li Qing asked, “Don’t tell me that this Lord tier monster is…”
Uncle Liu laughed but did not give a straight reply.
Director Chen’s face twitched. Li Qing and Qin Yi both swallowed their saliva.

Gao Peng was already numb to these surprises. Even if he were told his Grandpa’s familiar was a dragon, he would not be surprised.
“Uncle Liu, what movies did you let it watch?”
“I think it was Priest? And then there was V for Vendetta and Hannibal? There were too many, I can’t remember… At that time, there wasn’t much entertainment on the island. The holiday villa had a video player and a few classic movie discs. When we were resting, we would play them sometimes, and the vulture would be perched by the side quietly watching,” Uncle Liu recalled.
Gao Peng’s grandpa had said that, other than himself, there were a few others trapped along with him at the villa. So, one of them was Uncle Liu…
This Blood Eye Bearded Vulture must have been tamed by Uncle Liu while they were on the island.
“Enough, stop making wild guesses. I’ll tell you more in detail on the way back,” said Uncle Liu.
The vulture finished its movements with its wings and then looked over at the giant, fat, juicy spider. It swallowed a mouthful of saliva in anticipation.
It got ready to make its move and then hesitated for a moment. Tilting its head sideways, it took a closer look at the female spider. Then, its body shot upright and it gently shook its head.
Uncle Liu’s eyes twitched, and he cursed below his breath. “That rascal with its bad habit again!”
“What bad habit?” asked Gao Peng.
Director Chen secretly pricked his ears. This was such a rare Lord tier familiar. Usually he would only get to see something like this on television.
Uncle Liu’s expression was strange. “It thinks it’s a scavenger and that it can only eat carrion and not hunt live prey. That’s why it’s adjusting its mentality right now.”
Adjusting its mentality? Such a sophisticated function?! The secretly eavesdropping Director Chen was totally dumbstruck.
“This female spider is not for eating. Severely wound it and bring it back with us,” instructed Uncle Liu through the Blood Contract.

The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture froze in the middle of its silent prayer. Not for eating?
The vultures gaze dulled as it cooed back uninterestedly.
With a casual cry, it raised its head, beat its wings, and flew into the sky.
Its speed was extremely fast. In just a few moments, it became a tiny speck of black in the sky. Then it rotated 180 degrees midair and folded its wings. Violent raging wings pressed its feathers flat, making it look like a sharp blade descending from the sky.
It was like a black flash of lightning tearing through the air.
The crippled female spider had no chance of escaping and was directly hit, suffering a grievous injury!
With a cry of defeat, it fell on its bottom, raising its six remaining legs high in the air.
The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture’s head and neck were embedded deep into the back of the spider, sending blood splattering everywhere. Pulling out its head, the vulture’s face and neck were covered in blood. But using its tongue covered in tiny hooks, one lick was all it took to clean away all the blood.
The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture was huge. Just its body alone was over twenty feet long. Its wingspan, fully extended, was over fifty feet in total.
The Horrifying Violent Female Spider may be huge as well, but most of it was empty space. Its long spider legs made it look bigger than it actually was.
It struggled to get up a few times, but each time it tried to get to its feet it was put down again by the vulture. The spider was furious. No living creature has ever stayed on top of my head—
Bang! The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture’s strong wing crashed onto the spider’s head, making it swell up. But the Horrifying Violent Female Spider would not give up. It tried to get up once again… and was beat down once again by the wing. After many attempts, the spider finally seemed spent, and it just lay quietly on the ground.
Director Chen blinked. This pseudo-lord was conquered just like that? It was hard to believe. It seemed…it seemed just a bit too easy. Their entire group had been trying to face the monster cautiously. But in the end, matters were resolved with pure, unreasonable force. There were thousands of ways to express himself, but in the end, it only came out as, “Uncle, your familiars are really strong!”
As though receiving the order, the Blood Eye Bearded Vulture lowered its head and gave lightning-quick pecks at the joints of the Horrifying Violent Female Spider’s legs, right where they connected to the body. One by one, it plucked out the tendons of each leg.
The vulture squinted its eyes and smacked its lips. It seemed to be enjoying the taste very much.
Unlike other vultures, bearded vultures did not like to eat rotten meat. Instead, they preferred to eat the tendons and bones of a carcass. Their diets consisted mainly of bone and bone marrow.
As such, their digestive fluids were extremely terrifying. Even before the Cataclysm, the stomach acid of a bearded vulture could corrode metal! After the Cataclysm, the bearded vulture evolved into the Blood Eye Bearded Vulture, and its stomach acid was strengthened to an even more terrifying level. Practically anything could be digested by a Blood Eye Bearded Vulture.
But, even then, its preference for eating tendons and bones had been passed down as it evolved. The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture thought to itself for a moment. Then, while no one was looking, it plucked out another tendon from another area. It chewed and thought, Mmm, this is good!
And then, while Uncle Liu was not watching it, it secretly tore off another piece of leg tendon.
Underneath it, the female spider was almost in tears.
Bang!
The Blood Eye Bearded Vulture’s wing landed another blow on the spider’s head.
Don’t cry! Hold it in!

Touch O' Luck (The Old Realms)
A young provincial thief of no particular renown has his life of crime changed in a day. He ‘stumbles’ upon a huge pile of gold for starters and soon after a dead man carrying a letter of 'royal' interest. Literally. While at it he ‘earns’ a title of sorts, along the promise of a life out of the gutter. Before he can properly appreciate the dramatic turn of his fortunes, he’s drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to embroil two continents in a devastating war. The whole affair seems to cry out for a gallant hero of old, or failing that a cunning diplomat, but he’s neither. Perhaps a lying scoundrel, which our lad definitely is, would have to suffice. He does ‘acquire’ a dagger that knows a dead language after all and that must count for something. The Old Realms series: Touch O' Luck (Finished) Lure O' War (Ongoing) Wings O' Fate First chapters will be uploaded immediately. After that there will be updates every 3-5 days. Cover artwork by @IntheBlackveil All tags are relevant but most chapters are not too extreme. Fair warning dear reader, this is an 'unfiltered' story, sometimes sweet, others bitter, touching some heavy subjects or problems, like crime, war, betrayal, pride, politics, revenge etc set in a Epic Fantasy backdrop with shades of Grimdark. In its heart of hearts though, it is an adventure.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Killing Roar: Part 2: Mortal Mewling
Part 2 - Mortal Mewling: Perry's been living his dream in the guard, fighting spike feeders, proving himself to be a valuable member of the community, but his many concerns linger, weighing him down with more questions and regrets. The strange event within the dungeon. The rise of the prey-movement. The critical mass of spike feeders looming around the corner. Things have been going wrong for Titan City, and it feels like they're only going to get worse. Can he help save what he's worked for or will it all fall to ruin? Part 1 - Killing Roar: When Perry was blessed with a platypus beast soul, he thought his chances of joining the village guard were over. No one had every heard of a platypus. It seemed like an obvious prey soul, given it wasn't in the village's records. Only the strongest could be part of the village guard. He thought that would never get the chance to defend the village from the spike feeders, the deadly creatures jutting out with hazardous spikes haphazardly all over. Only predator beast souls were given the requisite training and allowed to join the village guard. Perry just didn't meet their criteria. He was also wrong.Soon Perry will live out his wildest dreams and more, as he scales the rankings of beast soul mastery, fights innumerable dangerous spike feeders and solves mysteries related to the origin of beast souls and spike feeders. And maybe, just maybe, he'll even get to join the city guard. Genre-wise, Mortal Mewling is a GameLit story (light on the GameLit) focused on action and adventure. The Gore tag is there more as a precaution, rather than a promise to keep producing gory words. Mortal Mewling is a bit of a slow burn in terms of start, scale and capacity of the protagonist. Book 2... has now begun! Updates Monday and Thursday
