The Great Ruler Chapter 1538 – The Third Person
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The Great Thousand Palace.
All the seats were filled at the back of the hall. Those well-known experts of the Great Thousand World kept their silence, and a depressing atmosphere filled the entire hall. Their gazes that were full of their last hopes were cast towards the two figures in the middle of the hall.
“Everyone, now is the time when the survival of the Great Thousand World is at stake,” said the Flame Emperor in a low voice. He lifted his chin and looked at the people with a grave expression on his face.
Everyone was quiet because they felt lost, even though they were all Heavenly Sovereigns. Qin Tian frowned and asked with bitterness, “Flame Emperor, Martial Ancestor… can’t the two of you fight against that Heavenly Evil Deity?”
The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor exchanged looks with each other and sighed softly. “If the Heavenly Evil Deity has only five eyes, we are not afraid of him. But as he said, if he can regain his nine-eyes state, then even both of us together will not be his match at all.”
The Martial Ancestor sharpened his eyes and added, “That is, unless one of us can leave our complete name on the Heaven’s Declaration. If that’s the case, we could utilize the energy of the universe to kill the Heavenly Evil Deity.”
The Green Shirt Sword Saint studied them with hope in his eyes. “If we gathered all our resources from the Great Thousand World, could we help you both leave your complete genuine names on the Heaven’s Declaration?”
The Flame Emperor shook his head helplessly. “The so-called genuine name is not based on the number of characters nor the strokes. The genuine name is divided into the first and last name. To engrave the genuine name, one would need extreme energy. It would take a long time to accumulate that kind of energy. Both of us have the confidence to do it, but it would take a few decades at least or even longer to engrave the complete genuine name.”
All of them went silent again. Under normal circumstances, a few decades were nothing to them. However, the Heavenly Evil Deity would be making a comeback in five years, and that would be the end of the Great Thousand World. What they lacked now was time.
“Don’t we have other ways to do it?” the Undying Lord asked in his husky voice. His aging face darkened and caused him to look even older.
The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor were speechless while the depressing atmosphere intensified in the hall. Mu Chen looked at the rest of the Heavenly Sovereigns who were keeping mum. After a while, he suddenly asked, “If we cannot help our two seniors, the Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor, leave their complete genuine names on the Heaven’s Declaration within five years, are we able to gather enough resources to groom another one who could rise to the challenge? With the combined power of those three people, could we fight it out with the Heavenly Evil Deity?”

As soon as Mu Chen finished his sentence, the frozen atmosphere was lifted by the bright radiance emitted by the eyes of the other Heavenly Sovereigns. All of them looked delighted and surprised.
The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor were stunned for a second before they looked at Mu Chen, impressed. “This idea might work. If there is another one who could make it to the declaration with even just his last name, I’m sure we can deal threatening blows to the Heavenly Evil Deity. Even though I cannot say we could beat him completely, the Great Thousand World would at least have hope.”
As though they were drowning, everyone seemed to have received their last hope of survival. They began to discuss it proactively, and the previous depressing atmosphere was cleared.
The Flame Emperor swept his gaze across the room and said slowly, “Most importantly, who will be the third person who is going to leave his name on the declaration?”
The surroundings hushed once again. All the Heavenly Sovereigns looked at each other, yet no one said a word. Those who were present in the hall were considered the peak forces in the Great Thousand World. As powerful as they were, they were fearful when they faced the mysterious Heaven’s Declaration.
Some of them began to turn to those later-stage Divine Grade Sovereigns like Qin Tian, the Green Shirt Sword Saint, the Undying Lord, and the Real Dragon Emperor. Apart from the Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor, they were the strongest among them all. If there was any possibility, they would have been the ones with a higher chance.
However, Qin Tian and the rest looked distressed. Even though they were later-stage Divine Grade Sovereigns, and it meant they were only a step away from the Heaven’s Declaration, they knew themselves better than the rest. Now, they did not possess the capability to trigger the appearance of Heaven’s Declaration. Hence, they were not confident that they could achieve the same standard as the Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor within five years. All the remaining Heavenly Sovereigns gradually regained their calmness. The delighted expressions on their faces slowly disappeared.
The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor looked at each other again and gave a helpless sigh. They knew that Qin Tian and the rest were not to be blamed. As someone who had gone through what they were going through, they knew the difficulties involved better than anyone else. They scanned the remaining people and paused their gazes on Mu Chen. They could tell that he seemed to have something to say.
“Mu Chen, speak your mind. It is a crucial time for the Great Thousand World. We will not give up any seemingly impossible ways as long as there is a chance to succeed,” said the Flame Emperor with a smile.

All of the people in the Great Thousand Palace turned their focus to Mu Chen. Sensing everyone’s eyes boring into him, Mu Chen gave a weak smile. He paused for a while before he gradually sharpened his eyes. He lifted his chin and looked into the eyes of the Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor. “I want to try to be named on the declaration.”
Wow! Everyone in the hall exclaimed. All the Heavenly Sovereigns looked at Mu Chen, astounded. Despite the fact that Mu Chen was reputed for his strength, he only possessed the strength of a God Grade Heavenly Sovereign. Even those later-stage Divine Grade Sovereigns like Qin Tian were not confident, so where did he get his confidence?
“Hmph, given your God Grade strength, who are you to brag about yourself over here?” Maha Tian sneered. Mu Chen was an eyesore to him. Since the chance was there, he had to mock him.
Despite the rest of the Heavenly Sovereigns remaining silent, the doubts in their eyes were rather obvious. After all, this matter was too important, and Mu Chen was not someone who was deemed hopeful. The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor pondered for a while before they spoke. “What makes you so confident of yourself?”
Even though both of them had always admired Mu Chen, this matter concerned the life and death of the entire Great Thousand World. They could not treat this matter lightly.
While everyone watched him doubtfully, Mu Chen was more composed than before. He said calmly, “Even though I’m not a Divine Grade, I’m confident in cultivating my Qi into Trinity to the third level, the Tri-God level.” When he fought with Jiang Ya, he vaguely comprehended the legendary Tri-God level as the spiritual lights flashed during the fight.
“Qi into Trinity? Tri-God level?” All the Heavenly Sovereigns looked at each other as they were somewhat unfamiliar with the term, “Tri-God level.” After all, the Heavenly Emperor had not mastered it.
Maha Tian sneered again. “Qi into Trinity is one of the 36 Volumes of Rare Super Powers, but it is useless when it comes to the Heaven’s Declaration.”
Mu Chen threw him an indifferent gaze and replied immediately, “Just with the Qi into Trinity alone it will not be easy.” He paused for a while before he continued, “The so-called Tri-God level refers to the clones who are individuals and independent. They are like real humans, and they can exist forever. When the time comes, the two clones can cultivate another two Primitive Celestial Bodies. With the combined forces of the three of us and the power from the three Primitive Celestial Bodies, I guess later-stage Divine Grade will not be difficult for me. ‘Til then, if we can gather all the resources and help me break through to the Divine Grade within five years, I believe I can try to leave half of my name on Heaven’s Declaration.”
As Mu Chen’s voice faded, the hall remained still and quiet while all the Heavenly Sovereigns were dropping their jaws and looking at Mu Chen dumbfoundedly. Apparently, they were all stunned by Mu Chen’s unbelievable talk.
“Your… your clones can even cultivate a Sovereign Celestial Body?!” Even though Mu Chen had displayed his Qi into Trinity before, the two clones were only able to share the use of a Sovereign Celestial Body. They were unable to cultivate the bodies on their own.
Without any turmoil in his eyes, Mu Chen replied calmly, “Tri-God level can achieve that.”
Everyone was speechless because none of them had ever practiced the legendary Tri-God level successfully before. The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor pondered for a moment before they spoke slowly, “Mu Chen, are you telling the truth?”
Mu Chen smiled widely and replied, “As the Chinese idiom goes, no eggs can remain unbroken when the nest is overturned. Our world is in danger now. If I spout any nonsense at this time, that is as good as seeking my own death.”
The Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor nodded gently. They turned and looked towards the rest of the people and asked, “What do all of you think?”
All the Heavenly Sovereigns had complicated expressions. Qin Tian was silent for a moment before he spoke. “Do we have other choices?”
They all gave bitter smiles. If those later-stage Divine Grade Sovereigns were not confident, they did not have any other choice apart from Mu Chen’s method.
Qin Tian gritted his teeth and said, “In that case, let’s just try our last resort.”
The Undying Lord, the Real Dragon Emperor, and the rest finally nodded slowly.
Maha Tian was looking uncertain as he mumbled, “All of you are crazy.”
Seeing that most of the Heavenly Sovereigns had finally nodded in agreement, the Flame Emperor and the Martial Ancestor took a deep breath. They looked at Mu Chen and said softly, “If that’s the case, the survival of our Great Thousand World will rely on you…”
Mu Chen looked extremely solemn now. Without focusing on the irrelevant details, he said, “I’ll do my best, and I hope my conditions can be fulfilled. I need another two Primitive Celestial Bodies… And gather all the resources to help me break through to the Divine Grade level within five years.”

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road.
