Master of the End Times Chapter 681

Chapter 681: A Painful Lesson
Wandering without a vessel in the middle of the Abyssal Ocean was no different from suicide. Even a B-tier would not survive long in this merciless sea, let alone the C-tiers.
Besides, Qin Feng’s intention was only to teach Bai Wei a lesson. The latter immediately succumbed once Qin Feng unleashed his imposing aura.
Bai Wei gritted his teeth and said, “Alright! I will pay!”
Qin Feng revealed his communicator. Bai Wei had no other choice but to pay up.
“Mr. Bai, do you still want to rent this vessel?”
Bai Wei’s face became even gloomier. He had to spend another 100 billion if he wished to continue using the vessel.
Seeing that Bai Wei was clearly displeased, Qin Feng asked, “What’s the matter? Are you unhappy with my organization’s name?”
Qin Feng pointed to the side of the vessel. The inscription there had been forcefully wiped off.
Bai Wei naturally knew what happened. He was the one who scrapped the name off.
He dared not retain the name after stealing the vessel. No matter how thick-faced he was, he would not lay the evidence out so brazenly. Ultimately, he was still a member of the Human Alliance, not the Dark Coalition.
Unfortunately, he was caught in the act by Qin Feng, witnessed by Yu Yangtao and He Jia. Bai Wei’s face reddened. He was about to lose all his honor today.
“That’s… President Qin, it was scraped one time we were battling the sea beasts.”
“Is that so? Speaking of, I believe you didn’t pay any deposit when you rented my vessel. It cost me a fortune to upgrade and inscribe the vessel. To simplify things, let’s fix the deposit at 500 billion. Since you are unable to keep the vessel in good shape, I will confiscate your deposit. In short, you still owe me another 500 billion.”
Bai Wei’s eyes were as wide as a cow’s. He wanted to shred Qin Feng into pieces.

‘How dare you ask for another 500 billion? How are you different from a robber?’
However, Bai Wei was unable to speak these words aloud. He grudgingly swallowed them back.
He almost fainted out of rage.
Yu Yangtao and He Jia were startled too as they looked at Qin Feng. They knew Qin Feng was furious and would certainly punish Bai Wei. They did not expect it to be this harsh.
Qin Feng might be overdoing it and forcing Bai Wei to revolt.
But then, perhaps that was exactly Qin Feng’s intention. Qin Feng could have killed Bai Wei easily and rightfully so if the latter were to attack first. The things left behind in Bai Wei’s spatial equipment were probably more valuable than the money Qin Feng charged him.
Naturally, Bai Wei was aware of that fact too.
Hence, he forced himself to calm down and said, “President Qin, I will repair any damage done to the ship once I am back to the port. As for the deposit, I don’t think it will be necessary. Show some mercy. Who knows we might switch positions in the future?”
Though Bai Wei tried hard to hold down his anger, he was clearly gnashing his teeth.
That made his plea sound more like a threat.
“Repair? I don’t like used items anyway,” Qin Feng sneered, “How about this? Since you like it so much, you can have it at a discounted price of 2 trillion. There’s no need for the deposit as well.”
Bai Wei was confused by Qin Feng’s sudden generosity. Why was he willing to part way with such a powerful vessel?
But when his sight landed on the machine under Qin Feng’s feet, Bai Wei immediately understood. This unknown machine must be several times more powerful than the Deep-sea Feng Li. No wonder he would give up his old vessel this easily.
‘Damn it! But if I do buy the Deep-sea Feng Li now, it will help me to earn back the money in less than two years. They can no longer accuse me of stealing the vessel too. This is an acceptable trade.’

“Alright, deal!” Bai Wei decided to buy the vessel despite costing him one-third of his wealth. At the very least, the vessel would help him find his footing in this ocean in the near future.
Bai Wei immediately transferred 1.5 trillion to Qin Feng, then threw him a piece of spatial equipment that contained 50 million power credit in it.
Qin Feng nodded in satisfaction. “Alright. This vessel belongs to you from today onward. You can name it however you see fit. Just don’t call it Deep-sea Feng Li.”
Bai Wei murmured, ‘I don’t need you to remind me of that.’
“I understand. President Qin, how about the chains…”
“Retract the chains.” Qin Feng waved his hand and the chains immediately loosened up and returned to the Glutton. Clearly, they were imbued with consciousness.
“See you again, Mr. Bai!”
“See you!” Though Bai Wei had a smile on his face, he was fuming inside.
Qin Feng and his followers re-entered the Glutton. The opening on the wall twitched and turned back into a smooth surface like before.
The Glutton descended quietly. The waves that resulted from its submergence splashed on Bai Wei that stood only 50 meters from it. Other C-tiers could not withstand the wave and were flipped into the water. The vessel with an unknown name now was being pushed back several hundred meters as well.
It was like an ant against an elephant. The “small” vessel was defenseless against such a giant machine.
Inside the Glutton, Yu Yangtao asked, “President, why did you sell him the vessel this easily? Didn’t that bolster his strength in this ocean?”
Though the Deep-sea Feng Li was no match to the Glutton, it was still better than the majority of other vessels. When Yu Yangtao was saved by Qin Feng, the Deep-sea Feng Li shot down the Sea Devil Vessel with only a single laser strike.
Qin Feng explained, “Now that you have understood the scale of our organization, don’t you think we can invent and manufacture better vessels in the future?”
“Ah?” Yu Yangtao had never considered developing other vessel models after owning the Glutton. After all, no new vessel could surpass the Glutton—the pinnacle of technological marvel. But if it was designed to be rented out, Yu Yangtao remembered Guo Guan was indeed working on such a business at the moment.
“Deep-sea vessels in the future are definitely stronger than the old models. Though the Ocean Phantom is a solid machine, years of service must have taken a toll on it. A new vessel manufactured using Fengli’s technology would only cost 1.5 trillion. The rental fees would only be around 20 million per day.”
Guo Guan laughed. “In the end, others could use a newer machine with only 20 million, while Bai Wei needs about two years to regain the money he spent on the ancient submarine. If I ere him, I would definitely vomit blood.”
Qin Feng smiled. “This will teach him a lesson.”
He Jia and Yu Yangtao could not help but sympathize with Bai Wei. Of course, there was more gloating than pitying.
“Okay. Let’s get back to business. Continue to survey. We are about to enter the Glutton’s territory.”
“Yes, President!”
“I will be around whenever you need me.”
They immediately forgot about Bai Wei and went back to their respective positions.

Beep! Calculation completed: 817 Marlins detected.
Qin Feng was excited when he saw the stats.
“It seems we can finish the mission in one day.”

The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
