Chapter 269: 269
Chapter 269: Five Elemental Fire Amulet
Not only Wu Qian but even White Ape and the monkey demon who were chatting got frightened. The antenna shrank back inside the coffin as if it was startled while Xiao Huo looked baffled, mostly curious.
“This, this…” Wu Qian was too surprised that he spilled wine from his bowl.
“This is the Five Elemental Fire Amulet!” Wu Qian finally exclaimed, putting down his bowl.
He was shocked beyond words. The Five Elemental Fire Amulet was one of the oldest edicts passed down in his Cloud Sect. No one could perform it since his master’s generation. Although the edict was passed down, no one was able to create an amulet.
But today, just moments ago, Lin Jin who wrote it the first time succeeded. He could even invoke it immediately, summoning fire.
After staring at the burning inscription for the longest time, Wu Qian asked, “Appraiser Lin, have you learned the Five Elemental Fire Amulet edict before?”
Truth be told, Lin Jin was just as shocked himself.
He shook his head. Indeed, he never learned it before. But he had an inkling as to why his edict worked. While studying edict scripting earlier, he comprehended how one part of it requires borrowing power. Wu Qian had shared how he failed after writing it for decades so Lin Jin wondered if the problem stemmed from the source where one borrowed these powers.
Thus, Lin Jin changed a small part of the edict’s scripture.
And it worked.
While Wu Qian was still stunned and confused, Lin Jin said with a smile, “Sir, have a closer look at the scripture and see if you can notice the difference.”
This was an obvious hint.
At this, Old Taoist immediately studied it carefully and found the discrepancy.
Lin Jin’s Five Elemental Fire Amulet was indeed a little different from the one he knew about, but it still commanded a superior being to borrow its firepower.

However, the target of command wasn’t the ‘Five Elemental Fire God’ he was familiar with. It was replaced by some strange symbols.
“Appraiser Lin, which deity’s name did you use?” Wu Qian was still confused so he humbled himself and asked. Lin Jin smiled. “It’s not a deity but my pet beast’s commanding name.”
“What? Pet beast?” Wu Qian was startled.
Lin Jin beckoned Xiao Huo over. The creature was currently the size of a cat, covered in crimson fur, and emitted an ethereal aura.
This was the Dharma body.
As he stared at the tiny fire wolf, Wu Qian couldn’t believe that Lin Jin’s Five Elemental Fire Amulet’s firepower came from this little guy.
Lin Jin knew that his success didn’t come from being more familiar with the fire amulet than Old Taoist. Instead, it was because he had secured a crucial point. Old Taoist’s fire amulets didn’t work because there was no fire energy imbued into the amulet. It also wasn’t passed down from his sect’s predecessors. Unlike the one he previously used where a corresponding power was imbued in it. If he wrote a new one, it wouldn’t have worked.
The newly written ones had no power because they failed to borrow a ‘fire god’s fire energy. Since that was the case, Lin Jin figured why not go about it another way? Since immortal cultivation was now extinct, this ‘Five Elemental Fire God’ must no longer exist too. With this, it was impossible to borrow powers from someone who didn’t exist. Lin Jin figured that at deity class, these individuals must have had Dharma bodies that made borrowing their powers possible. Hence, they were worshiped. Since the Dharma body was key, why wouldn’t Xiao Huo’s work?
So Lin Jin borrowed Xiao Huo’s fire energy and sure enough, it worked.
This was the result of his comprehension and Lin Jin didn’t conceal it. He told Wu Qian what he had learned and the latter just gaped at him. At first, this sounded truly farfetched, but after careful consideration, it did somewhat make sense.

Also, he realized a terrifying point.
This Appraiser Lin’s pet beast has obtained a Dharma body!
It was too outrageous!
While others might not know what a Dharma body was, Wu Qian did. After all, he was a successor of orthodox immortal cultivation. In the past, their Cloud Sect had produced more than one expert who managed to cultivate Dharma body so he knew quite a bit on this topic.
To think he could now witness an existing being with Dharma body today.
But the unexpected thing was, it was a pet beast instead who had achieved this Dharma body.
What a waste.
This was Wu Qian’s genuine thought.
But he obviously wouldn’t voice that out loud. He was also impressed by Lin Jin, musing, ‘As expected of an expert’s disciple. While this Five Elemental Fire Amulet isn’t some complex spell, it’s practically extinct modern day. To think Appraiser Lin managed to recreate it with a different idea.’
Now, this was an act of a true expert.
Immediately, Wu Qian taught Lin Jin the other edict scripture passed down from his Cloud Sect. The last one was the Five Elemental Fire Amulet, this one was the Five Elemental Lightning Amulet.
Of all five elemental amulets, Cloud Sect only had two.
However, even Lin Jin couldn’t use this Five Elemental Lightning Amulet because there was no source to borrow powers from. Unless he could find a pet beast with the lightning attribute and possessed a Dharma body.
The two continued to chat and eat until dark until the food and wine were gone.
Their topic of conversation now was the study of pet beast, including monsters.
“Appraiser Lin, the Beast Energy Formation Curator has bestowed me is truly mystifying. I’ve already let the monkey demon cultivate it.” Wu Qian suddenly shifted the subject to the monkey demon.
Understanding his intention, Lin Jin smiled and offered, “Let me take a look at him on your behalf.”
Wu Qian was visibly thrilled and called the monkey demon over at once.
Monkeys were fickle beings. He had just been chatting but was now asleep due to boredom. Hearing Old Taoist calling him, he shook his head and came over reluctantly.
“Let Appraiser Lin take a look at you,” Old Taoist said sternly.
Old Taoist had been educating the monkey demon for quite a few years now so the latter had definitely learned manners. He came forward and saluted.
“Greetings, Appraiser Lin.”
Lin Jin nodded and flicked a needle into one of the monkey demon’s acupoints. Lin Jin had achieved profound mastery when it came to appraising beasts with his coiled wire needle so the monkey demon didn’t even realize that Lin Jin had already appraised him.
Lin Jin found this monkey demon’s status to be extraordinary. He was only a Rank 2 monster but had already cultivated Transfiguration, Hyoid Bone Refinement, and even understood human language.
Amazing.
But on second thought, Old Taoist’s Cloud Sect had special edict amulets to teach monsters Hyoid Bone Refinement and Transfiguration. Hence, this monkey demon was able to take on human form and even speak albeit being only Rank 2.
To some extent, Old Taoist’s Cloud Sect must have been an extraordinary sect for immortal cultivation.
After recording the monkey demon’s details into the Museum of Deadly Beasts, Lin Jin now had comprehensive details on the creature. Glancing through, Lin Jin was surprised to find that the monkey was classed as a rare monster with great potential.
Other than his potential, the monkey demon had also accumulated quite a lot of experience so he now displayed signs of evolution.
Hence, why not do them a favor and help this monkey evolve? To the present Lin Jin, evolution from Rank 1 up to Rank 3 required barely any effort. He could do it easily.
Boom!
A burst of aura exploded from the monkey demon.

I'm also in the process of editing chapters 1 - 7, changing the format to make it more readable, and introducing more show and less tell. The reworked chapters will have (edited) after the title. All chapters after 8 have already been written in the new style. I have a Patreon page if you wish to donate. Also, there will be intense situations, some explicit violence, and although it is not an erotic work, one or two sex scenes.
