Chapter 944: The GPL Officials Want To Find Pro Players To Do Commentary!
The two competitions for the GPL league Saturday were over at night.
The host introduced the schedule for tomorrow’s competition after the interview. Then, the audience began to leave in an orderly manner.
The two official commentators heaved a sigh of relief. Today’s work was finally done. They could go back and have a good rest.
It had to be said that commentating was actually a physical job. It looked simple and could be done with words, but there were actually many tricks.
The commentator had to be extremely focused throughout the entire process. He could not leave out too many details or make too many mistakes. Sometimes, after work, he had to go back to revise some gaming knowledge and surf the internet to understand the latest meme. If he cooperated with the official platform to film some other programs, he could easily work for more than ten hours.
However, before the two commentators could take off their headphones, they heard the director say, “Don’t leave yet. Come to the lounge. Boss Zhao has something to say.”
The so-called Boss Zhao was definitely Long Yu Corporation’s Zhao Xuming.
Both commentators were stunned.
They knew Zhao Xuming, but they did not really meet or interact much with him. That was because Zhao Xuming’s level was too high. Even if there was anything, he would talk to the director and director of the ICL league project team, and then be conveyed to the commentators by the director.
What did it mean for Zhao Xuming to meet them personally this time?
The two of them went to the lounge backstage with trepidation.
However, they were stunned the moment they entered the lounge.
There were so many people!
It was not just the two of them. Even the other commentators who were not scheduled for the day were present.
All the staff in charge of OB and backstage data analysis were present apart from them. The entire lounge was filled with people.
Obviously, Zhao Xuming had already found these people while the competition was still ongoing.
Everyone was confused by such a huge formation. They did not know what Boss Zhao was up to. They were very worried.
Zhao Xuming’s expression was not very good. He clicked on the remote control and a recording of the competition started playing on the big television in the lounge.
The two commentators were stunned. Wasn’t this the competition that they had just commentated on today?
However, upon closer inspection, they realized that this was not their version!
Obviously, this was a recording of Bunny Tail live-streaming the competition today.
Since Zhao Xuming did not speak, the others naturally did not dare to speak either. The entire lounge was very quiet. Only the voice of the commentator from Bunny Tail Live-Stream echoed in the entire conference room.
“We saw on the official screen that the winning rate of one tower is as high as 74%, but in fact, this team has several early-stage tactics. We can’t generalize them…”
At first, the commentators did not understand Zhao Xuming’s intentions. However, as they listened, they could tell that something was wrong.

Obviously, Bunny Tail’s commentary was much more professional than theirs!
The content of their analysis was too superficial for the same data. The commentator at Bunny Tail Live-Stream could always dig out more information through other data.
What’s more, the gap between the two sides was not limited to that. From the early stages of the tactical prediction, to the BP, and then to the detailed explanation during the competition… The two commentators today could be said to have been completely crushed by the commentators from Bunny Tail live-stream!
The two commentators’ expressions turned ugly.
Zhao Xuming was playing the Bunny Tail Live-Stream in front of so many people. It was equivalent to a public execution. Who could stand that!
How unlucky!
What was even more terrifying was that the commentary video from Bunny Tail Live-Stream had most likely spread across the entire internet. Now, all the audience in the ICL league had already seen the comparison between the two commentators!
The other commentators also lowered their heads, feeling both relieved and worried.
Relieved because they were not in the line-up today. They were not the first to step into the pit and get whipped in front of everyone. Worried because they were worried that their standard was about the same as the two commentators today. They would still be hung up and beaten up when it was their turn to commentate!
It was not only the commentators. OB and the team that provided the data also understood Boss Zhao’s intentions.
Could it be that all the blame was on the commentator, and they were alright?
Of course not!
The OB on Bunny Tail Live-Stream was going to OB according to the commentator’s requirements. If the commentator wanted to see farming by both sides, the OB would focus the main camera on both sides of the jungle.
Thus, Bunny Tail Live-Stream and the official OB were very different.
They even gave different MVPs in the end.
All in all, Bunny Tail Live-Stream was indeed much better than the official platform. What’s more, it was better in all aspects. From the commentator to OB to the data support, it was basically a complete crushing.
Zhao Xuming only pressed the pause button on the remote control after all the matches were played.
“Do you understand why I called you for a meeting now?”
“You are the official commentators and should have the highest standards. Yet, you were beaten by an unofficial commentator on a live-stream platform!”
“The public opinion on the internet has exploded. There are a lot of viewers in the official live-streams on various live-stream platforms. How embarrassing!”
“All of you are professionals with rich working experience in this industry. How did it become like this? Is there a problem with your ability, attitude, or both?”
Zhao Xuming’s series of questions stumped everyone.
The few commentators silently cried out in their hearts.
Can you blame us?
You are comparing us with the active professional players of FV Team Two in terms of understanding of the game. Wasn’t that a joke? We are only platinum and diamond level!
There was a huge difference when comparing to the understanding of professional gamers.

What’s more, they had been commentating in this way for other games. There’s nothing wrong with that, right? We’ve been working hard every day to get off work, train our mouths, and understand game knowledge. We’re already working very hard, alright?
Why do we look like a bunch of useless people waiting to die?
However, they only dared to lament in their hearts.
They had also watched the commentary video of Bunny Tail live-stream. They had to admit that there was a clear gap between the two sides.
Now, they could neither admit that there was a problem with their ability nor their attitude. No matter which one it was, there would be a huge problem if they admitted it.
What exactly was the problem then?
In the end, the director was smarter. He stood up and said, “Boss Zhao, please calm down.”
“Erm, I have to admit that our commentator and the two professional players that Bunny Tail Live-Stream found are indeed different in terms of understanding of the game. We have to admit this.”
“Our commentators are professionals after all. We are better at commentating than professional players, but we are not as good at understanding the game.”
“However, this problem is not difficult to solve. We just have to add some professional players to the regular commentary.”
“The official commentator would control the tempo just like the Bunny Tail live-stream. Pro players or former professional players would be the guest commentator for professional analysis. The two would coordinate and achieve similar effects.”
The best attitude would definitely be to appease Zhao Xuming and then settle the official commentary for ICL league.
These commentators might not understand the game as well as professional players, but it was impossible to fire them all?
That was because these commentators were hired with a process. They were all professionals. They had also commentated on other competitions before the ICL league. They were all reputable figures in the circle. There might be a complicated relationship behind them. How could they fire them just like that?
Zhao Xuming obviously did not intend to fire all of them. What if the new batch of people were not as good as them?
Thus, Zhao Xuming’s anger this time was only to knock the ICL league’s director and commentators down a peg so that they would have some sense of crisis and think of ways to improve their own standards.
The official commentary of the ICL league was not even as good as the unofficial commentary of Bunny Tail live-stream. This was too ridiculous and unacceptable.
Since the director had already expressed his stance, there was no need to be too harsh.
Zhao Xuming said, “All commentators, watch the commentary on Bunny Tail live-stream from beginning to end every day after work and review it on one side to improve your understanding of the game!”
“In addition, the official real-time data application will be done soon. It should be released on various platforms one after another. I hope that it can improve the situation of the audience being distributed.”
“Also, make the best use of your time to look for professional players who have a deeper understanding of the game and are eloquent. As special guest commentators, you have to implement this as soon as possible.”
Then, Zhao Xuming turned to his assistant and said, “Keep an eye on this matter and report to me at any time.”
The assistant nodded. “Alright, Boss Zhao.”
…
In the evening…
SUG E-Sports Club’s boss, Ding Gan, had just finished his meal with a few friends. He was prepared to go back and have a good sleep.
However, his cell phone rang just as he got into the car and took a short nap.
He picked it up and saw that it was Manager Yang from his club.
“Boss Ding, I have something to report to you.”
“Just now, the director of the ICL league called to ask if there are any professional players who want to change their careers to being a commentator. He said that there’s a good opportunity now.”
Ding Gan was a little confused. “Didn’t you already recommend Old Zheng?”
Manager Yang reminded him. “No, Boss Ding, we recommended Old Zheng to Boss Pei, which is to Bunny Tail Live-Stream. Now it’s for the official commentator team of the ICL league.”
Ding Gan said, “That should be it! Our main players are playing well. The reserves and trainees also have to train seriously. Only Old Zheng is older, so we let him try being a commentator. Everyone else is suitable.”
Manager Yang said, “Little Gao is alright. He’s quite eloquent and knows how to do the job.”
Ding Gan was unhappy at that moment. “That won’t do. Little Gao might be a reserve now, but he’s just over eighteen years old. It’s his year of playing. He’s going to be promoted to Team One soon. Wouldn’t it be a waste to send him off to be a commentator?”
Manager Yang said, “Yes, Boss Ding, I think so too. Then… should we reject him directly?”
Ding Gan pondered for a moment. “We can only turn them down. Who asked them not to come earlier? Bunny Tail Live-Stream came first. We have already sent out the suitable candidates. Zhao Xuming just came. There’s nothing we can do.”
“…Don’t tell me he can’t find someone suitable?”
Manager Yang said, “Probably not. As far as I know, Bunny Tail Live-Stream only looked for people in the FV Team and our team. They did not ask the other teams.”
“Our clubs are on better terms with Boss Pei after all.”
“If the official commentator team of the ICL league were to look for other clubs, they should be able to find some suitable candidates.”
“It’s just that these people’s understanding of the game would be slightly worse. FV Team’s strength and understanding of the game are at the top after all. Our team is behind them, the other teams are a few tiers behind them.”
Ding Gan said, “That has nothing to do with us.”
“Alright, just reply that way. We can’t help even if we want to.”
Manager Yang: “Alright, Boss Ding.”

Also, the world is harsh, and things don't always go the MC's way. What it is not: A drama, romance, grimdark, although these elements might appear. I've had some feedback that the intro seems to set up a very rough life for the MC. There is a reason for this, and I hope you give it a try beyond the first few chapters. Do note, this is not an unreasonably harsh novel.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
