Phoenix Phire Chapter 542

"Nix." Her words were soft, like a gentle wind. She picked up the Ravager and hugged him.
Ravager Nix chuckled and nudged her with his black nose. "I know why you can't use comms down here. The lower levels of the Keep are neutral, like the ocean."
"Soupy!" Ducky skipped across the room, her blue eyes filled with happiness as she swept up both her and Nix in one swoop.
"Ducky." The round face was smiling at the Water Witch while clutching the Ravager tightly.
"Hey... Don't squeeze so hard!" Nix squirmed free of the combined grasps of his spirit companions. "How long have you been down here?"
Soup knelt until she was eye-level with the Ravager. Her Jade hand stroked his black-furred head while making a cooing sound. "Nix."
A pulsing glow from behind them caused the entire group to turn. A silver cloth hung in the air over the corpse of Glacia. The Ravager approached cautiously and studied it.
/Family: Nix: I'll link it.
Silver Witch's Mantle
Elemental: Unassigned.
Description: This Mantle was originally gifted to Glacia by the Goddess of Winter to preside over all Covens.
/Family: Pradi: No stats? What's it do?
/Family: Ducky: What do want me to do, Nix?
/Family: Nix: Equip it.
Ducky advanced slowly, a pale hand reaching out tentatively to touch the mantle. The moment she did, it appeared around her shoulders and lengthened until it touched the floor. The color shifted into a deep blue, the Water Witch's eyes seemed to focus on something directly in front of her. A wave of her hand caused a realm map to appear in the air.
Nix had seen realm maps before, but they had been layered; these were presented side-by-side. When Ducky moved her hand, the next plane rotated into view.
The City of Cyphix was highlighted, a purple point blinked over the city's location.
/Family: Nix: That's the Cyphix Coven, right? Show us Oasis.
The map of Oasis was easily recognizable; there was one marked city.
Nix glanced at Prada, who was also studying the map. "Know much about Oasis?"
Pradi shook his head. "Never been there."
"That's Beco, an illegal slaver city in the Su'Dhassi territory." Nix frowned at the map. "I doubt if Pon left any of it standing."

"It's a closed Coven site. I have the option of opening it up." Ducky had never heard of Beco, but she was aware that Pon had tracked his daughter's abductors through the Su'Dhassi territory.
"No. Send me all the data regarding closed Coven sites. If Glacia closed them, then she had a reason." The Ravager turned towards Soup, who was still kneeling next to him. "I assume you have a way out?"
/Family: Ducky: What do you want us to do?
/Family: Nix: Keep an eye on this Hulo person. Link me that mantle that you are wearing.
Blue Witch's Mantle
Elemental: Water
Description: This Mantle was originally gifted to Glacia by the Goddess of Winter to preside over all Covens.
/Family: Pradi: It customized to the wearer.
/Family: Nix: Time to go. Stay alive and out of trouble.
Ducky hugged Soup tight for a moment, stroking the quill-covered head. "So beautiful!"
The Ravager glanced at the exit; they'd already been gone longer than he planned. "I want to see how you're getting in, Soup."
Soup nodded and scooped the Ravager up. She waved at Ducky and then quickly exited the room.
The Sea-Turtle moved with grace and speed through the water-filled lower halls. At times, her feet would barely skim the surface. After several minutes of twists and turns, they arrived at a small cavern that was half-filled with water. Nix was forced to use Night vision because of the lack of lighting.
"This is the entrance to the ocean?"
Soup sat him down and knelt until she was eye-level again. Her round aqua-marine eyes glowed slightly in the darkness. "Nix."
"Thanks for the help today, Soup. You always come through for me."
Soup patted the top of his head while Nix took a better look at her. Up close, her skin was definitely that of an amphibian. Smooth green scales covered a feminine but well-muscled form. The green quills that covered her head extended down her neck before stopping at her shoulders.
"This cavern must be your entry point. Can you take this Ravager puppet back to camp?"
Soup nodded and scooped up the Ravager in a hug. "Nix."
"Thanks. See you back in camp."
A moment later, Nix sat up in his bunk, pushing the sleeping Orion onto the floor. He was back in the tent he shared with Shae and Fajii. "Anything happen while I was gone?"

"Nothing." Del padded toward the exit without speaking further.
/Inferno: Nix: Come back to camp; we won't be needing the Trinity flame.
/Inferno: Pon: Damn you! I have been waiting for two hours! Let's blast something.
/Inferno: Darsi: Permission to engage roof targets, Trip-7.
/Inferno: Nix: Granted. Take out whoever you can and then report back to base.
/Inferno: Shae: Something happen, Nix?
/Inferno: Nix: Yep. We managed to kill Glacia and Sandi.
/Inferno: Pon: The fuck you say?
/Inferno: Nix: Learned some valuable intel. Officer meeting on the beach, right away.
When Nix exited his tent a moment later, he nearly collided with Gil and Mortimus in their human forms. Someone had braided the Titan Warleader's red beard. "Coming down to the beach?"
Gil nodded. "How'd you manage to put down Glacia while in puppet form?"
Nix slipped off his [Thine Enemy] ring and reverted back to his skelly form. "Had some serious back-up."
The trio walked down to the edge of the water. The Inferno Guild Leader stepped one bony foot into the surf.
Nix has activated [Mariner].
Nix grinned at the two Titans. The return of his Elemental abilities meant he could once again use the Mariner form. He held out a webbed hand for the Titan Turtle to examine. "Like it?"
Gil nodded. "It makes you a little less ugly, but not much."
Nix waded deeper into the water before submerging. He lay in the shallows, letting the surf wash over him.
Fajii and Semmi arrived a few minutes later; the Aquarion needed no invitation to join Nix in the water. He was tempted to challenge her to a race, but he already knew what the outcome would be. Without the benefit of enchanted items, Nix's Mariner form couldn't keep up with Fajii or any of the other Aquarions.
Sharl headed a procession that included most of the Inferno Officers. The guild tank sighed in envy when she saw that Nix was in the water. "I'd kill for a swimsuit."
Nix held back the comment he wanted to say. "Latest count says 5867, Darsi and Ronnie must have managed to put down quite a few people."
Jun Li glanced at Ronnie who was busy rolling up her pants legs. "We should post a few ranged fighters there from now one. Give them the green light on any group with five or more."
A few minutes later, Soup arrived in her Sea Turtle form with the Ravager puppet secure on her back. She slapped the water happily with a flipper when she spotted Nix in his Mariner form.
Nix relieved her of the puppet and spent a moment with her. He'd recognized her as soon as she broke through the Ice barrier that Glacia had trapped them with. The two of them shared a symbiotic bond companion bond; when he grew stronger, so did she, and vice versa. "I'll come back later and play with you."
The Inferno Leader watched as Soup headed back out to sea; when she was finally out of sight, he returned to the Inferno Officers who were waiting on the beach.
/Officers: Gil: Soup is looking good.
/Officer: Nix: Stay away from my turtle.
/Officer: Jun Li: First order of business. Nix managed to take down both Sandi and Glacia. Did you get any intel?
Nix uploaded the realm map that he copied from Ducky. An instant later, everyone's hud buzzed.
/Office: Nix: We have a current listing of all Covens. Some of them were purposefully deactivated.
/Officer: Semmi: How many active?
/Officer: Nix: Just the two we know about in Mid-Everspire and Cyphix. We'll need to send teams these other Covens.
/Officer: Del: This one in Beco, if I can send word to my people. They will investigate that.
/Officer: Shae: I can do that. I'm heading back tonight to talk with Sinfaya.
[Whisper: Nix to Shae] I want that dragon puppet. She should be able to figure something out.
[Whisper: Shae to Nix] I'm on it.
/Officer: Jun Li: Our priorities for incoming fighters are the Drakes and Muncie.
/Officer: Nix: And the Aquarions. I found out something nice today. The lower levels of the Keep are not actually part of it. Soup found a way in and has been hunting there.
/Officer: Semmi: It's neutral ground? We should keep this to ourselves!
/Officer: Jun Li: Agreed. We'll put this aside until we've taken all the Burroughs.

The Forbidden Class
Hatred. Lust. Power. There are many reasons why the Forbidden Classes are chosen. For Katai, a young village Guard, the reason was simple. Vengeance. Schedule I’ve not been able to write for quite some time now, so while I’m getting back into things the schedule will be nonexistent. Story details LitRPG - expect classes and skills and magic. Not a lot of stats/number-crunching though. There is slavery featured in this story, which a lot of people have been upset about. So here’s your fair warning. Skill levels and progression inspired by Azarinth Healer. Let me know what you think, and feel free to give me some constructive criticism. Please be nice about it though!

The Foretold: Sun Child (Complete)
As a sixteen year old commoner, your future is bleak. Worse, your appearance sets you apart from others. Your only achievement so far, is befriending the second son of the Lord of the Keep. He has been your only friend for eleven years, initially partner in mischief and later your hunting companion and confidant. Now your friendship is being torn asunder, he has turned eighteen and is being sent away to become a Judge Knight Aspirant. What is to become of you? Before your friend leaves, there is murder and conspiracy! Magic left the land hundreds of years ago, all you have is your bow and hunting skills, nevertheless you must fight to survive and save another to have any hope of a future! Note: The graphic isn't mine; it is a re-imagining of a few separate images, any objections by original artists let me know. N.B. If you are looking for Sexual Content every chapter, or every second, third or fourth chapter this isn't the story for you - the Sexual Content is required for a plot device, not a way of life and the later chapters reflect that - please stop dropping Low Ratings when you feel I haven't met your idea of "fan service". This is finished as much as a multi book vision can be finished. At 750,000 words give or take and very little readership I can only blame myself. I have learnt a lot, possibly forgotten a lot as well! I will probably return to the Chapters at some point - a touch up here and a touch up there. The second book though will probably remain in my head for a very long time, so yes "cliffs" although I hope the characters and their motivations are developed enough that you can have a good guess at the content of Book Two and tell me so I can confirm or deny! This isn't a LITRPG where classes are developed, great foes are defeated by a hero of immense power. This is a story based within (I hope) a very real and consistent culture, that leaves breadcrumbs for the reader to work out what the heck is happening and why. This is a slow burn story as the MC is stumbling around discovering her new place and role. Author's Note (Apr 2021): I dropped the Fantasy Genre for the Mystery Genre, because while the setting mentions magic, is it about past glories and trying to return to them. Whereas the MC from Chapter One doesn't understand her predicament and the range of mysteries she must solve to survive. If I have this wrong PM me and I will change this back.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
