Chapter 870: Restored Confidence
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
“What’s wrong, Da Bai?” An Lin asked with concern.
“Get away from me. I’m just a weak dog that is inferior to everyone, even a bug, woof!” Da Bai sprawled onto the ground with a suicidal expression.
An Lin finally figured out why Da Bai was behaving like this. It was because the other members of the beast pet team had unwittingly crushed his confidence.
He knelt down beside Da Bai and stroked his furry head. “Da Bai… You’ve restricted yourself to too small of a circle. You need to set your sights further than just our beast pet team…”
“What do you mean?” Da Bai blinked his big, round eyes with a thoughtful expression.
“Put it this way!” An Lin asked in a meaningful and heartfelt tone, “What cultivation base is Liu Dabao’s Beach Sea Turtle?”
“I think it was… fifth-stage Dao Body? Woof!” Da Bai replied.
“Then bash it!” An Lin encouraged.
He continued, “Let me ask you again. What cultivation base is Tang Ximen’s Earth Explosion Tiger?”
“I think it was… eighth-stage Dao Body?” Dao Body replied a little hesitantly.
“It can’t beat you in a fight either! If you’re not feeling well, go pick on it!” An Lin encouraged with a justified expression.
“Then wouldn’t Tang Ximen bash me? Woof!” Da Bai was a little scared.
“He’s just a mere Spirit Nurturing Stage cultivator, how is he going to beat you?” An Lin chuckled.
Da Bai immediately attained enlightenment.
“Let’s continue. Chang’e’s Yue Tu… Forget about that one!”
An Lin waved his hand. “Anyway, cast your sights across the entire United University of Cultivation. Don’t restrict yourself to just our small beast pet team…”
“You’ll find that aside from our beast pet team, you’ll be able to easily bully all the other beast pets! If you cast your sights across the entire world, you’ll find… that you’re invincible!”
Da Bai’s eyes widened, and he seemed to have suddenly understood something.
Tears began to well up in its eyes. “So that’s why… It’s because I’ve always been too short-sighted and missed the bigger picture…”

Tina was shocked. Was this what it meant to broaden one’s horizons?
The Jade Bone Immortal Bug was also quite shocked. This was the first time she had witnessed how good An Lin was with words.
Da Bai had truly been touched, and he leaped onto An Lin excitedly. “Big Brother An, you’re so good to me! Listening to you has completely changed my perspective on life for the better, woof!”
An Lin patted Da Bai’s head with a smile. What he had just said was not a lie.
This was like the Hua Nation’s table tennis. After making it into the national table tennis team, athletes would often find that they were unable to beat anyone and would sink into despair. This was when they needed to cast their eyes across the entire world!
They could go to some other countries and easily destroy everyone there to recover their confidence.
“Go, Da Bai! Recover the glory that belongs to you!” An Lin encouraged.
“Alright, Big Brother An, I’m going now, woof!” Da Bai waved a paw at An Lin before strutting out of the dorm room with his chest puffed out and his head held high.
Right after walking out the door, Da Bai caught sight of some construction work taking place on a patch of lawn several dozen meters away. It looked like someone was building a house?
There were one man and two beasts laboring away.
Hehe, are they our new neighbors?
A wicked smile appeared on Da Bai’s face.
Big Brother Bai was the top dog around these parts! It was time to instill that value firmly into their minds!
Da Bai made his way over to them before clearing his throat. “Ahem, are you new here?”
The man turned before nodding politely. “That’s right. And you are?”
Da Bai was a little taken aback upon seeing this man. He appeared a little too old to be a student. He wasn’t some sort of backdoor entrant, was he?
Da Bai ignored this for now before patting his chest with his paw. “I, Da Bai, am the top dog here! If you want my protection around these parts, you have to call me Big Brother Bai, understood? When you encounter me, you have to greet me with enthusiasm and respect, understood?”

“Pffft, hahaha…” The groundhog chortled with amusement. “Where did this stupid dog come from? For the dog to be so stupid, the owner must be a stupid c*nt too! Hahaha…”
Da Bai’s eyes widened with rage, and he stamped his paw down, upon which the earth cracked underfoot.
His Half-Step Soul Formation Stage aura instantly exploded forth.
“Little mouse, I’ll give you just one chance to apologize to me!” Da Bai was enraged.
A mere groundhog dared to insult him? How could he take this sitting down?
He had to establish dominance over it, otherwise, it wouldn’t know who the boss was around these parts!
“Hehe, stupid dog! Get the f*ck out of here before I teach you a lesson!” The groundhog did not back down in the slightest.
The middle-aged man didn’t say anything. Instead, he stood off to the side and surveyed the situation with relish.
Da Bai: “Woof!”
Groundhog: “Ahhh…!”
Both of them let loose war cries before charging toward the other.
Thump thump thump… bang bang bang… clatter clatter clatter… puff puff puff…
After an earth-shattering battle.
Da Bai lay on the ground, bruised and battered.
A groundhog sat on top of him with a malicious smile.
“Why? Wasn’t I supposed to be invincible across the entire university?
“How… How could I lose to a groundhog in my first ever fight?”
Da Bai’s newly restored confidence completely collapsed as he howled sadly.
The groundhog was taken aback upon seeing this. Why was this dog crying just because it lost a battle?
As a native powerful being from the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool, it was completely unable to comprehend why anyone would cry after losing a battle.
“Ew, disgusting.” The groundhog walked away with a disdainful expression.
“Who did you call disgusting? Woof!” Da Bai’s sobs faltered as he glowered at the groundhog.
“Heh, I’m referring to a certain dog that cries after losing battles! Disgusting!” the groundhog replied disdainfully.
Da Bai was enraged. He pounced toward the groundhog. “I’ll kill you! Woof!”
Boom!
His domain was unleashed.
Silver blades of wind enshrouded the entire space around him.
The groundhog chuckled fearlessly, following which another intense battle erupted.
Thump thump thump… bang bang bang… clatter clatter clatter… puff puff puff…
After another intense battle, Da Bai fell to the ground while frothing at the mouth.
“Hehe, do you concede?” The groundhog stood on Da Bai’s back as it looked down on him with disdain.
Da Bai’s body trembled with rage. “Never, woof!”
Thump thump thump… bang bang bang… clatter clatter clatter… puff puff puff…
Within An Lin’s dorm room.
After enduring such an ordeal, it was finally time for him to relax and rest.
He poured himself a cup of tea. This brand of tea leaves was a renowned local spirit tea from the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool; it was called the White Fox Immortal Tea. It had an extremely pure and fragrant aroma, which was quite a contrast from the place where it had originated from.
Tina sat with her tiny, pristine legs folded in front of her as she carefully held a teacup in her tiny hands before taking a small sip.
“Hmm… Delicious!” Her eyes narrowed with elation as she praised.
A faint smile appeared on An Lin’s face, and he too took a sip of his tea.
“Giant An Lin, if Da Bai goes around bullying everyone’s beast pets, wouldn’t it be bad?” Tina asked in a low voice.
“He won’t do that.” An Lin shook his head with confidence. “Da Bai knows what he’s doing. He’s only going to intimidate some little animals. He won’t actually fight seriously.”
Just as his voice faded.
Boom!
Da Bai stumbled through the door.
“He’s back so soon?” Tina was surprised.
An Lin was also surprised, but he maintained a smile on his face. “It’s probably because there weren’t any worthy adversaries, so he came back because he was bored.”
Da Bai then appeared before them.
He was bruised and battered all over, one of his teeth was broken, and there were still tears streaming down his face.
“Waah… Big Brother An!”
Da Bai lunged for An Lin as he cried, “I’m never going outside again! I’m so useless, I can’t beat anyone! The world outside is so scary! Woof!”
An Lin: “…”

Please do not repost my work elsewhere without my written permission. What type of reader is this book for? You might enjoy The Last Orellen if you like... Clever and resourceful protagonists. Big fantasy worlds. Multiple cultures, lots of characters, many different types of magic--this story is expansive rather than closely focused on a narrow storyline. Progression fantasy that takes its time. Our main character will be progressing through magical ranks, but this is going to be a lengthy story. The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.

From the Ashes
Kadin Banto is a member of the Aspire guild, the best guild in the kingdom of Kahlona. His current contract starts out as a simple missing child case but quickly escalates in to a in depth plot to bring back the demon lords of old, and a Necromancers desire to cover all the lands in flame. This story follows Kadin as he moves forwards to fulfil his contract and eliminate the Necromancer. A battle against time to stop the Necromancer from reaching the plains of ash and opening a portal to bring back the demon lords and the horde is a secondary objective - the Aspire guild will always complete the contract and Kadin will not be the exception. This is the first chapter of my book, I am interested in feedback and thoughts I have complete the first 10 chapters and am still working to complete this - if it is liked and enjoyed I will post the chapters as I finish them. The world itself is a High Fantasy world with all sort of magical creatures, including Elfs, Orcs, Vampires, Demons, giant spiders, enchanted weapons, magical runes, and wizardry - almost every one in this world can use magic - but only a few specialise in it.
