Chapter 1149: Unexpected Enemies
Terrifying divine lightning wreaked havoc in every corner of her body.
Xu Xiaolan let loose an involuntary cry of pain as she resisted the power of the lightning with all her might.
The Golden Void Lightning flowed through Xu Xiaolan’s body and instantly into An Lin’s body.
This type of Golden Void Lightning was extremely fearsome as it targeted both his body and consciousness, threatening to tear them both apart at once!
Xu Xiaolan’s eyes became brighter and brighter, but her body trembled uncontrollably, clearly indicating that she was finding it quite difficult to endure such monstrous lightning might.
An Lin discovered that holding Xu Xiaolan’s hand did not make the lightning any more powerful than it already was, thereby verifying that this was indeed a viable method!
An Kirin, help me out! Attract more of the power to me!
An Lin called out in his sea of vital energy.
The little golden baby riding atop the little whale roared up into sky upon hearing An Lin’s call. Muscles suddenly began to bulge on his shiny golden arms while lightning crackled around his entire body as he raised both palms to the sky.
An Kirin yelled loudly, “Yiyaya, aiyaya!”
An Lin was shocked upon seeing this.
Did An Kirin just take steroids? He looked so terrifying!
Boom!
Right at this moment, a powerful suction force erupted from An Lin’s hand.
The lightning wreaking havoc in Xu Xiaolan’s body was drawn by this suction force and quickly transferred into An Lin’s sea of vital energy.
An Lin’s wholehearted assistance finally allowed Xu Xiaolan’s ravaged body some breathing room.
At the same time, An Kirin’s body became more and more substantial, and his aura became more and more powerful. This Golden Void Lightning created by the Heavenly Dao was the best sustenance for him!
The golden dragon fell completely.
It was as if a golden lightning bomb had exploded, annihilating everything within a radius of over ten kilometers.
An Lin could feel Xu Xiaolan suddenly holding onto his hand tighter, before her hand slowly fell limp in his.
An Lin’s heart jolted with horror, thinking that Xu Xiaolan was about to be blasted to death.

Thankfully, Xu Xiaolan was able to endure the power of the golden dragon.
A small azure dragon with a pair of pure, golden eyes suddenly appeared around Xu Xiaolan’s body. It was like a guardian spirit protecting its owner as it looked up at the white lightning Vermilion Bird in the sky.
An Lin and Xu Xiaolan didn’t even get a chance to catch their breath before the white lightning Vermilion Bird let loose a clear cry and prepared to launch itself down from the sky.
An Lin immediately focused his attention.
This was the most critical moment. He had to make sure that absolutely nothing would go wrong here!
“Hahaha…”
Right at this moment, a golden sun tore through the dark clouds in the distance, releasing boundless light and heat.
Heaven and earth were transformed into a sea of scorching flames that incinerated everything in its wake.
“Roar! Did you really think we would leave just like that?” A golden flaming dragon hurtled toward them from afar with a cruel smile on its face. “Lord of Transcendence An Lin, do you really we wouldn’t have noticed such a large patch of tribulation clouds?
“I was just biding my time and waiting for an opportunity; an opportunity to secure victory! You can’t deal with us now that you’re helping someone transcend their tribulation… Hahaha…”
The Return to Void Final Stage Sun God Apollo of the Western Dragon Forest had returned!
In another direction, ice and frost enshrouded heaven and earth as frosty winds roared for over a hundred fifty kilometers.
“Stop wasting time with words, Apollo. Now is the best opportunity for us to strike!” Frost God Zhuo Ma also flew toward them from afar, and it opened its mouth as terrifying energy converged within!
Apollo chortled with glee as nine massive crimson balls of fire materialized around its body like nine suns hanging in the sky, making the space within a radius of five kilometers around them twist and crack open.
The two Return to Void Final Stage mighty figures were about to attack at the same time!
This was the most perilous situation An Lin had ever been in.

He couldn’t go anywhere, so he was just a sitting duck. There was a very good chance that he would be blasted to death by the two Return to Void Final Stage mighty figures, who were free to unleash as many terrifying spell techniques toward him as they wanted.
Xu Xiaolan immediately tore off the Heavenly Star Dark Shell from around her neck and thrust it upon An Lin. “Their target is you, take this and get away from me!”
The Heavenly Star Dark Shell could be activated three times, and it could defend against a Dao Integration Stage super mighty figure’s attacks for ten consecutive minutes upon activation.
He would be able to make any preparations he needed during this period of time.
“What are you still standing here for? If you stay here, we’re both going to die!” Xu Xiaolan urged in a panicked voice.
An Lin held on tightly to Xu Xiaolan’s hand and shook his head.
He knew what Xu Xiaolan was thinking.
If he really did leave, he would be able to survive, but Xu Xiaolan would die for sure!
She couldn’t move from this spot and couldn’t use any external defensive items. How would she be able to endure the white lightning Vermilion Bird’s power?
Xu Xiaolan bit down on her charred and cracked lips as she pleaded in a sobbing voice, “Go… I’m begging you, you need to have faith that I can endure this final bolt of tribulation lightning.”
An Lin refused to leave.
A smile appeared on his face. “I just think that you’ll have the best chance at survival with me by your side.”
If he left Xu Xiaolan in order to ensure his own survival, then there would only be a one percent chance that she would survive her tribulation lightning alone. In that case, he might as well stay by Xu Xiaolan’s side. At the very least, their rates of survival together would at least exceed one percent, right?
This was a no-brainer.
Right at this moment, Apollo’s nine crimson balls of fire began to spring into action as they descended upon the location where An Lin was situated like nine suns crashing to the earth.
Zhuo Ma’s frosty breath erupted forth before crashing toward the ground like a galaxy of frost and ice, freezing everything in its wake.
The two Return to Void Final Stage mighty figures were both attacking at the same time, and their combined attacks would be quite difficult for An Lin to defend against even at full health, let alone now, when he had just been ravaged by a bolt of Golden Void Lightning and was unable to move.
However, An Lin was more determined than he had ever been in his life. He activated his power to the maximum in preparation to endure the barrage that was to come.
All of a sudden, a white figure suddenly appeared in the air before them.
“Extreme Dragon Sword, Heavenly Blade!”
An extremely dazzling sword projection erupted forth, robbing all colors from heaven and earth.
The sword projection sliced through everything in its path, even space itself, which had clearly become disjointed. The nine sun-like balls of fire were sliced in half, and fire exploded, incinerating the entire sky. The frosty breath unleashed by Zhuo Ma was also vanquished by the terrifying sword projection.
Gundam Three and Yao Ji stood in front of An Lin and Xu Xiaolan, unleashing twin ionic deprivation energy barriers.
The two barriers were just barely able to keep the shockwaves from the explosion at bay.
Thus, Apollo and Zhuo Ma’s first combined attacks was dispelled just like that.
An Lin and Xu Xiaolan both faltered upon seeing who the white figure in the sky was.
It was none other than the Dragon Court’s number one flex king, Ao Qingyu!
“Roar! Ao Qingyu, your Dragon Court of the Eastern Seas has a vendetta against An Lin and now is the perfect opportunity to get rid of him! Why would you help him instead?!” Apollo roared with rage and befuddlement.
“I owe him a favor, it’s as simple as that.”
“Besides,” Ao Qingyu raised his sword with a cold smile as he said, “why do I need to explain my actions to you?”

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.

I'm Sure It'll be Fine! ...right?
We live to die, and die to live again. This Cycle continues, neither to Begin nor End. Ever Beginning, never to End, we come to the story of our Unusual Friend. The Gods are as varied and unique as the mortals that worship them. Some are kind, others are fluffy, and (given the nature of the multiverse) a few are Eldrich Abominations of Unspeakable Horror. But that's fine, those few tend to mind their own business... At least until an Eldrich Abomination (an interdimensional cosmic slime-mold specifically) gets itself devoured by a Lich during a ritual to obtain Godhood... Especially because anyone, even a Lich, who's willing to eat an ENTIRE COSMIC SLIME-MOLD for any reason, even godhood, is undoubtedly a madman...who's now set his unsightly gaze upon replacing (likely by devouring) the Godess of Magic herself! She could probably use some help...if only to avoid touching the slimy Lichgod directly. Also, the Eldrich Gods are protesting these events in their usual manner...by trying to destroy all of Creation.
