Chapter 1429: A Visit From the Snow Maidens
An Lin was standing beside a lake, cultivating his newly obtained spell techniques.
Da Bai hurried over and was drooling with excitement. “Big Brother An, there is a very special guest who wants to see you, woof!”
“What kind of guest is this? And stop drooling!” An Lin spoke with a disdainful expression.
“You’ll know who it is when you get there, woof!” Da Bai was unfazed by his criticism.
“Who could it be…” An Lin looked at Da Bai with a perplexed expression before having Da Bai lead the way for him.
He was soon greeted by the sight of a few women.
A few beautiful women with snowy-white skin in flowing blue dresses.
All of them put on friendly yet uneasy smiles upon seeing An Lin.
An Lin couldn’t help but draw a sharp intake of breath upon seeing them.
There were about a dozen powerful snow maidens standing before him!
These snow maidens had come to the Kingdom of the Nine States to see him?
What did they want?
An Lin’s heart jolted with shock, but he maintained a calm expression.
However, his calm facade cracked when he saw a beautiful woman in a priest robe making her way toward him…
“Shangguan Yi! You’re here as well!” An Lin exclaimed.
Shangguan Yi curtseyed to An Lin with a faint smile on her face, “High Priestess-in-waiting, Shangguan Yi, pays her respects to Sect Leader An Lin.”
An Lin faltered slightly upon hearing her title of High Priestess-in-waiting, but he didn’t say anything.
At his level, he wouldn’t even react all that vehemently even if the High Priestess of the snow maidens came here in person. The only thing that made him a little forlorn was that Shangguan Yi, who had once given her everything to the Vermilion Bird Sect, was now siding with the snow maidens.
“Please have a seat, Ms. Shangguan Yi,” An Lin offered with a smile.

Shangguan Yi sat down elegantly before stating the reason for her visit. “We must apologize for our sudden intrusion. We have already made a request to the Heavenly Court, and the Celestial Thearch has allowed us to visit the Four Nine Immortal Sect.”
An Lin’s expression shifted minutely. Even though a temporary truce had been called following the sudden strike of disaster in the snow maidens’ Holy Glacial Lands, he was still subconsciously regarding them as enemies.
As such, he was a little surprised that the Celestial Thearch would allow these snow maidens to come into the Kingdom of the Nine States.
“That’s alright, I have no objections. In fact, I welcome you with open arms even if you want to live at the Four Nine Immortal Sect. After all, we’re all friends here.” An Lin looked at Shangguan Yi with a suggestive expression.
“Impudence! How dare you tease our High Priestess-in-waiting!” A Return to Void Stage snow maiden mighty figure flared up with rage.
“Stand down, Yan Hua! Sect Leader An Lin was only making a joke,” Shangguan Yi said with a rare flush in her cheeks.
“Nope, I was dead serious,” An Lin said with a serious expression that matched his words.
Shangguan Yi: “…”
Yan Hua: “…”
The snow maidens were quite angry. Was he trying to blatantly take their High Priestess-in-waiting away from them?
Shangguan Yi paused momentarily before speaking again, “I’m actually here because I have a request for you, Sect Leader An Lin.”
“Sure, feel free to tell me.” A friendly smile appeared on An Lin’s face, and he summoned a purple spirit fruit for each of the snow maidens.
Each and every one of the spirit fruits was valuable.
The snow maidens were feeling a little overwhelmed by the unexpected favor and didn’t know whether they should take it or not.
Attending to guests with spirit fruits? How rich was this man!
“Take them. It’s my gift to all of you. It wouldn’t have been easy for you guys to come all this way to find me.” An Lin wore a warm smile on his face, as if he were in the company of friends and not sworn enemies.

Shangguan Yi extended a grateful curtsey. “Thank you, Sect Leader An Lin.”
All of the other snow maidens also extended curtseys. All of them were either quite touched or feeling quite uneasy as they accepted the spirit fruits.
Yan Hua didn’t know what to feel. She was a Holy Palace Leader, but she had never been so good to her subordinates.
The snow maidens had always been rather poor, and their situation was worsened by recent wars and disasters. As such, spirit fruits had become extremely precious to them. All of the snow maidens present held high positions, but some of them didn’t even possess a single spirit fruit in their entire storage ring.
An Lin could guess from their expressions that they had been suffering recently.
He wasn’t going to feel sorry for them, nor was he going to celebrate their suffering. Instead, he turned to Shangguan Yi with an expression of concern. “Sister Shangguan, what do you need from me?”
The snow maidens must have sent Shangguan Yi here as they knew that Shangguan Yi had some ties with him.
An Lin was quite curious just what could force the proud snow maidens to swallow their pride and seek help from their enemy.
Shangguan Yi nodded before turning toward An Lin. “Then I’ll get straight to the point. The snow maidens are on the verge of being completely wiped out, and we need your help to save us.”
An Lin couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “You want my help?”
“Please let me finish.” A beseeching expression appeared on Shangguan Yi’s face as she said, “We’ll definitely give you adequate compensation for your efforts.”
“Go on.” An Lin gestured for her to continue.
“About a year ago, the snow maidens suffered severe casualties from flying snow mountains. Do you remember that?” Shangguan Yi asked.
“I do.” An Lin’s interest was slightly piqued.
“In the end, the living being responsible for hurling the mountains made its way to your Heavenly Court and was destroyed, right?” Shangguan Yi continued.
An Lin’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I recall that the entire Heavenly Court swore dao heart vows of non-disclosure. How do you know about this?”
Shangguan Yi gave an honest reply as she said, “Our Great Empress managed to glean this using her Ice Matriarch Eye. Not only did she know that, but she also knew that you were the one who killed that living being…”
An Lin heaved a resigned sigh. “I’m sorry about how bad*ss I am. I can’t help it.”
Shangguan Yi: “…”
Fame could be a double-edged sword…
An Lin’s badassery had even attracted enemies to come and ask for his help. This was simply getting ridiculous now!
Shangguan Yi paused for a moment before continuing, “Recently, we snow maidens are being targeted by another terrifying enemy who possesses power similar to the mountain-hurling living being. We are unable to combat it and are now facing a very real threat of being completely wiped out…”
“Another one?” An Lin’s expression shifted.
He knew what those living beings were. They were representatives of the Heavenly Dao who possessed the paramount powers of laws. It was no surprise that the snow maidens were no match for it.
Even the Dao Integration Stage Great Empress would be unable to do anything.
An Lin suddenly thought of something and became a little nervous. “That thing isn’t going to push you guys around, then target the Heavenly Court again like that Heavenly Wind God, right?”
Shangguan Yi shook her head. “It gave us an extinction timer, and if we don’t do anything, we snow maidens are probably only going to live for ten more days…”
An Lin: “!!!”

I do hope you enjoy the story I shall endeavor to tell. ~ Average post between 1000 - 3000 words. This is a work in progress, and will be edited and adjusted over time. The World Below
A place of myth and mystery, the Below is spoken of by few with any real consideration, and fewer with any true belief. After all, a realm filled with magic and monstrosities beyond imagining would be ridiculous, especially existing beneath one's very feet. Someone would have found it by now, through science, even if rumor dictated that it was able to "choose" who entered it. More wishful magic nonsense. ...Right? Note: This is a story on dungeon exploration, not a dungeon core/sentient dungeon!
