Soul For A Girlfriend? Chapter 97

Lilith's POV
"Well, we are going to buy things for you." He looked at me and said in his usual blatant tone.
"Ehh?" I was a bit confused. Buying things for me? But I don't need anything. I know he is not lying since I can read his mind.
"Don't read my mind, just ask it." He said, while glancing at me as we were walking. This guy's intuition scares me sometimes.
"Umm… you won't answer it anyway, so it's better to just read your mind."
"Huh, we are going to buy clothes for you since you said you don't have any spare ones."
"Ehh… wait.. Wha… What?" Is this really Sakamaki? He is acting weird.
"Did I say something wrong?" He asked as we entered the mall.
The inside of the mall was cold compared to the outside. There was a strange smell that hit me. I don't know what it was. Back in the days, supermarkets were not like this. The whole floor was brightly illuminated with bright lights and there were many people around us.
"Hold my shirt if you don't want to get lost again." He said.
"Don't worry, I can use the spell again."
"You would cast a spell with so many eyes on you?" He questioned. I looked around and indeed my weird outfit was making me receive a lot of stares. I can't cast the spell in anonymity here.
"F… Fine." I grabbed a hold of his shirt and started following him. This is so embarrassing.
He sat in the waiting area near the women's clothing section and told me that I can buy clothes for myself. I was a bit excited since this is my first time shopping in the human realm. Of course the vast difference in fashion in Hell and the Human realm always amazed me. Clothes in hell would be what people here would term as flashy. I mean, my outfit was flashy from their perspective, too.

"You aren't high, right?" I asked him.
"Do I look like someone who smokes?" He retorted back.
"Alright." I nodded and went on my way.
I was browsing through the clothes when I remembered; I forgot to ask him about his budget. Don't want to leech my clothes off him just because he was offering them. I cast my telepathic spell and contacted him.
"Hey, Sakamaki-kun"
"Yeah?"
"How much is your budget?"
"Don't worry about it."
"Really?"
"No… wait, actually keep it within 5000 Yen."
"Ok." I turned off my spell.
But 5000 Yen was still a lot. Where does he get all this money from? I know he doesn't have any jobs or other mediums of earning. That would only mean that his parents send him money. Talking about his parents, he never talks about them. Neither have they come to visit him since I arrived here. All I know is that he lives alone, separated from them. There must be a reason for that, I guess, because no child would want to live apart from their parents.
It took nearly an hour to choose the correct outfits for me because I was going to buy something which would look flashy but would be uncomfortable as hell. That pun was intended. But I picked some really comfortable clothes which were made of cotton material because I know it's the most efficient material in the human realm for clothing.
I was carrying a lump of clothes in my arms since I had no basket or trolley with me. I walked up to Sakamaki, and he looked at me in surprise.
Did I buy a lot? Does he think I'm leeching off him?
"Is that all?" He asked, and I nodded.
He nodded and took the clothes from my hands and put them in a basket beside him. He gestured me to follow him. He was heading for the billing counter. Knowing him, I knew I was under his budget because if I wasn't he would be just blunt about it and tell me.

Looking at the bill confirmed my hunch. It was all under 4000 Yen.
It was already sunset, and we were walking back home as I was holding the plastic in which all my clothes were packed. But I still couldn't understand why he did all this for me? I've only been living with him for over two months now, but he still didn't have any solid reason to be so generous towards me.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead." He gave me a weird look. "Because you're going to read my mind if I said no." He added and glanced at me.
"Uhh… well… why did you buy me all this?"
"Since you said that you wanted some spare ones."
I recalled the event where I spilled orange juice on my clothes and was wearing his shirt because I had no spare outfits with me. I didn't know he was this considerate. I always thought of him as an asshole.
"I never said I wanted spare clothes. I said that I don't have spare clothes."
"Same thing." He shrugged.
I think he is lying, so I'll read his mind again. As I tried to read his mind, I found nothing but empty thoughts. There was silence in his mind. Was he trying to hide his thoughts from me? Maybe I'm overthinking this.
"Well… Thank you."
"Huh?" He looked at me in surprise. I guess he wasn't expecting me to thank him.
Even though I couldn't read his mind to know his true motives, I was happy that he was a bit considerate to me. Albeit, I can be wrong. Since knowing what kind of person he is, there is a possibility that he has his own ulterior motives behind this act.
Well, for the time being, I don't care. I will cherish this moment.
"What?" He asked as I realised that I was smiling at him.
"Nothing" Our walk continued with silence between us the rest of the way.

This is a rewrite of the original Phoenix Rising that I had started way back in 2014 and am still going with over 500 chapters. I am rewriting from scratch on this one because, when I looked back at the earlier chapters, I found out that I had made a lot of mistakes, plot holes that went unexplained, and links missing between events. That's why, I've decided to write from the beginning with a new vision of improving the story, bridging the missing links, and change our certain events happened to make a much better story than the original. So, I thank each and every one of you for giving this story a chance, and I hope that you will come to like it. Please do leave comments down in each chapter to give me possible feedback or any suggestions for me to improve my story on. I gladly accept all advices from my readers and promise I will adapt to the best I possible could with the vision I have for this story. Phoenix Rising: Wikia
