Chapter 211: A Small Talk
"Hmm? Another mission, huh." Destiny Lady frowned for a moment and soon disappeared from there.
A moment later, she appeared in front of the old mansion gate and startled the silver-armored guards.
"Who are you?" A black-haired man asked before raising his spear and pointed it towards the black-haired woman.
A chuckle escaped from Destiny Lady's mouth as she tapped her left foot and disappeared from there.
The next instant, she appeared in the mansion building's reception hall and turned her gaze towards the white-haired old man, who was in the middle of drinking wine.
Even after she appeared in the hall, he only raised his eyebrows a little, moved the wine glass towards his mouth, and took a sip.
Meanwhile, Destiny Lady bent her waist a bit and greeted him with an excited tone.
"Destiny Lady greets Ancient Mage Oswald."
At that moment, Oswald halted his movement, placed the glass on the table, and spoke in a disappointed tone.
"Youngsters these days are so impatient." He commented casually, pointed his finger at the opposite sofa, and added.
"Sit down."
His voice contains a trace of arrogance.
On the other hand, Destiny Lady let out a wry smile as she nodded her head, went near the sofa, and sat down.
"Did you meet him?" Oswald asked as if he was already aware of Charles's arrival.
On the other hand, a look of astonishment appeared on Destiny Lady's face.
She had been observing the whole Nobles' District for the past one hour through the wisdom power and knew that this old man hadn't left this place at all!
Not only that, but she also noticed that this old man had never used his wisdom power to scan the Nobles' District!
'How did he know?' She couldn't help but look into the old man's amber eyes.
"Hoho, you are too early to learn about the true might of all the mysterious powers." Oswald let out a chuckle and added with a profound look on his face.

"Law, Chaos, Nether, Soul, Dream, Time, Space, Destiny, Luck and so on... These are just the primary forces. The more you peek into any of these realms, the more you feel how tiny you are."
Meanwhile, a reverence look appeared on Destiny Lady's face.
Without minding her, Oswald sized her up and down and nodded his head in understanding.
"So, you want me to persuade Charles to help you sooner, huh."
Upon hearing his words, shock appeared on her face.
Soon, she regained her calm and nodded her head in agreement.
"Charles seemed to be concentrating his attention on another mission, My Lord. He said that he will think about my request after completing that one."
"Hmm? Another Mission?" Oswald frowned for a moment and soon asked.
"Was he alone when you met him in the Royal Palace?"
Although Destiny Lady got puzzled by his question, she didn't put much thought into it and nodded her head.
A troubled expression appeared on Oswald's face as he saw her nod.
He then raised his right hand, placed it on his forehead, and rubbed it in frustration.
"I already told him to gather some helpers before starting the mission, but to think that he would go on his own..."
Upon seeing his troubled face, Destiny Lady narrowed her eyes and soon thought of a possibility.
'Could it be Charles is trying to do the 'Successor' mission on his own?' She recalled his previous action and nodded her head in understanding.
Three years ago, she also heard about that mission issued by the Churches and felt pity towards this kingdom.
'One way or another, this kingdom will be swallowed by any one of these Churches, anyway.' She heaved a deep sigh and asked.
"Is he going to complete the Successor Mission on his own, My Lord?"
"Yes. A few months ago, I sent him a secret letter and asked him to help my first disciple to ascend the throne. But to think that kid is acting so daringly." Oswald couldn't help but sigh at his grandson's recklessness.

In the meantime, Destiny Lady furrowed her brows and felt something was off.
"I heard that this Successor Mission is only for Rank-3 Mystics?" She asked in puzzlement.
"Laughable. Do you think mere Rank-3 Mystics are enough to eliminate the chaos in this kingdom? Don't you see what happened when Charles faced the small child? He was played by that small girl. The Churches or the ones who made this mission truly didn't want anyone to succeed. As long as no one succeeds in this mission, the Churches will directly interfere and select one puppet ruler."
"In total, there are only four people who choose to compete in this successor mission. Other than Rhea, two are the second consort's children, and the final one is the third consort's son. Unfortunately, the third consort is just a commoner woman with no real background. Only a few nobles are supporting her son." Oswald said in disdain.
"You mean this mission is very hard to complete?"
For the first time, her scarlet eyes shone in excitement.
"Yes. Churches also made another rule and forbid the successors' backers from participating. We are only allowed to invite some powerful expert from outside and let them finish this mission." Oswald paused for a moment and soon shook his head.
"Who would be willing to take this dangerous mission? Even I have no choice but to ask my grandson's help in this matter." A wry smile appeared on his wrinkled face.
Meanwhile, an understanding expression appeared on Destiny Lady's face.
At that moment, Oswald wore a hesitant look on his face and soon shook his head.
On the other hand, Destiny Lady clearly understood what he was about to ask and fell into deep thoughts.
'Charles took the mission alone... Although he seemed to have grown stronger than before, he is still a Rank-3 Mystic after all... The possibility of him getting injured or even dying is very high.' She instantly closed her eyes and started to check his fate strings.
She then used her wisdom power, touched the fate strings, and soon frowned while opening her scarlet eyes.
'His fate is constantly changing?'
She furrowed her brows and began to ponder.
'Should I help him complete this mission sooner? As long as I help him, he might accept my request, right?'
Meanwhile, Oswald stared at her with an amusing smile on his face and said with a laugh.
"I can clearly hear your inner thoughts, lass. But he won't be fooled by your silly trick."
As Destiny Lady heard those words, her face suddenly turned scarlet in embarrassment.
She quickly hid her emotion and asked him directly.
"What do I have to do to get his help?"
A sly smile crept on Oswald's face as he sized her up and down and chuckled.
"No man can resist a girl's beauty, lass. Just use that trick." He deliberated for a moment and soon added with another laugh.
"That fool will definitely help you."
Destiny Lady's face went gloomy all of a sudden as she heard the Ancient Mage's idea.
Although many women use the art of bewitchment to achieve their purpose, she wasn't that kind of evil woman!
Moreover, she was already in love with a person!
How could she do such an evil thing to a small kid?
Although Charles had already crossed 20 years old, he was still a kid in her eyes!
Upon seeing her gloomy expression, Oswald also turned his face serious and asked in a calm tone.
"Although it is a bad idea, do you have any other option? Let me ask you one thing. Who is important in your life? Your lover? Or, a random stranger?"
As she heard Oswald's words, her face turned pale in an instant.
'Joel? Or Charles? Of course, it's Joel!' Her body trembled all of a sudden.
'Do I have to break a kid's heart?' A pained expression appeared on her face.

Recruit - An Infinite Labyrinth prequel
A prequel to The Infinite Labyrinth. The year is 1816. The British Empire is in full swing, under the auspices of King George III. The Infinite Labyrinth has been pouring out its product from beyond our reality and fostered a new industrial revolution. Times are changing, and the people of London are feeling the winds of the revolution while British Professionals push into the Labyrinth. The newly formed Artefact Hunting Company is looking for recruits, and they have new technology to help them. From the slums of London, they aim to recruit a new wave of Professionals. And make Zacharias and the Earl of Carnavon lots of money. So, for Rowan Rivers and a handful of lucky ones, it's time to head into the Labyrinth, and discover what makes it different from England. And what makes THEM different? Recruit is a bunch of chapters I wrote to create to the setting, mood, and game systems of the Infinite Labyrinth. It is NOT a complete story in the classic sense. It's more of a slice of life view of early days of a normal Professional from the Infinite Labyrinth, and it's heavy on info-dump. It's 90% canon - there's probably a bit of a difference between how some characters and common behaviour are portrayed here and how they'll come out in the main story. Set two years before the events that kick-start the main series, it features some of the secondary/peripheral characters of the Infinite Labyrinth and will tell you all about the basic mechanics of the Labyrinth's RPG system. It can be considered a spoiler, as the characters in the Infinite Labyrinth are going to need to figure out all that, on their own. But if you like a much deeper exposition in the mechanics, here it is. The entire prequel is about 80 pages long.
