Chapter 258: Forewarning
Both [Wind Scythe] spell and [Finger of Death] spell entered Charles's flame body and soon appeared on the other side before disappearing.
Simultaneously, Charles deactivated the spell and activated [Prevision] skill.
A moment later, he shifted his attention towards his Inner World and said in a hurry.
'Switch place with me, Charles.'
By the time the clone Charles took control over his body, Louise had woke up from the shock and shouted.
"Blind Curse."
An instant later, the clone Charles's vision turned blurry and soon went blind!
But Louise didn't end it there, though.
She raised her hand, pointed her finger at Charles, and cast the next spell.
"Chain of Chaos."
Five eerie black chains came out from her body and slithered towards Charles like snakes.
At that moment, Charles took control over his body, erased the blind curse, pointed his finger at Louise, and cast [Finger of Destruction] spell.
A reddish bullet-like ray came out from his finger and flew towards Louise at a terrifying speed.
"Louise!" Cedric sensed the dangerous power hidden in that bullet and shouted.
Meanwhile, a grim look appeared on Louise's face.
Without any delay, she cast [Wind Barrier] spell and clapped her hands together.
The next instant, she turned blurry and disappeared from there!
'It must be [Wind Form] spell. When she is in Wind Form, she could reduce 50% damage of any attack.'
Nodding inwardly, Charles cast [Flame Teleportation] spell on himself, disappeared from there, and reappeared 30 meters away from both of them.
Meanwhile, the reddish bullet collided against the wind barrier spell before sending destructive fire waves in all directions and made a crack on the barrier!
Then, the 'Chaos Bullet' tore through the invisible barrier and soon landed on the invisible Louise.
Even though she was in Wind Form, Charles's 'Chaos Bullet' penetrated deep into her shoulder and appeared on the other side!
Then, the bullet let out a cracking noise and exploded!
A loud bang echoed in the sky, followed by a shockwave.

Rays of reddish fire flew in every direction and started enveloping the surroundings in chaos flame!
Whenever the flame touches on something, it spread towards the nearby area like wildfire and eroded it!
The flame enveloped all of the observers who stood at the entrance and even moved into the tower.
Whenever the flame touches someone's body, it entered deep into them and corrupted their skin and flesh like an infection.
Their bodies began to bulge within seconds and soon exploded while sending out the flesh, blood, and brain matters in every direction!
Even Louise wasn't spared from the explosion.
But due to her extraordinary physique, she managed to suppress the infection and escaped from the corrosion.
As the flame soothed down, she floated in the air and looked miserable.
Multiple burn wounds appeared all over her face, body, and hands.
Not only that, but her left hand was nowhere to be seen!
Her face appeared pale as a white sheet.
"He is very strong." She said in a cold tone, placed her other hand over her shoulder, and added.
"Unholy Hand."
A moment later, new flesh began to regenerate rapidly and soon formed into a new hand!
Simultaneously, the other wounds on her face, hands, and body also disappeared in a blink.
Still, the bullet wound on her shoulder remained.
Meanwhile, Charles hovered next to the Black Tower and stared at her with a gloomy look on his face.
'I have to kill one of them quickly.' He muttered inwardly and was about to take out the dagger but suddenly froze.
His heart palpitated all of a sudden.
It was the forewarning skill!
The next instant, he saw a vision of an obese man in a red robe.
The man looked at the sky through the window, held a strange black scroll in his hand, and seemed to be in the middle of muttering an incantation.
The obese man looked had black hair, large belly and appeared familiar.
But due to the black mask, Charles couldn't distinguish who he was.

'An enemy?' He soon turned his gaze towards the battlefield and noticed that Louise and Cedric were staring at him warily from afar.
But he wasn't too much concerned about them now.
'An unknown enemy is far more dangerous.' He muttered inwardly and soon spoke to the Holem's Crown.
'Mr. Runeth, look for a suspicious obese guy in a red robe. He has black hair, a large belly, and wears a black mask.'
'Did you see a future vision? Hmm, don't worry. I will start my search now.' The Holem's Crown spoke in a solemn tone and released its full wisdom power.
Meanwhile, Charles nodded his head and activated his [Arcane Eyes] skill.
Then, he focused his gaze on Louise and soon saw some spider-like reddish strings appeared above her head.
No, Charles noticed that some of them were constantly breaking and reconstructing on their own.
'Fate Strings… This shows that both of them will be gravely injured in the future, but won't die… So, this hidden enemy will strike me harder and kill me before I kill these two, huh.' A look of understanding appeared on his face.
'It seems I have to rely on the Holem's Crown's help now.'
He nodded inwardly and started focusing on the battlefield.
For the next few minutes, Charles cast almost one hundred spells and made multiple attempts to kill Louise and Cedric.
Unfortunately, Louise continued to use her [Unholy Hand] skill and returned to her peak condition even after reaching a near-death situation.
As for the Vampire Cedric, his regeneration skill shocked Charles.
Not only that, but his [Finger of Death] spell had almost killed him twice.
At that moment, Cedric and Louise also felt helpless in their hearts.
"This guy should be titled as Undead instead." Louise couldn't help but said in a gloomy voice.
Meanwhile, Cedric flapped his bat wings and spoke with a bitter smile on his face.
"He has a strange flame body spell to nullify any physical attack, a weird healing spell to cure his wounds, the fire teleportation, and the ability to predict our next movements. Then, there is the fire bullet spell that could be on par with my [Finger of Death] spell, shape-changing ability, and a normal defensive shield spell."
"He still hasn't cast his Memory stealing ability, yet. I've seen that ancient mage using such spell during the auction incident." Louise responded in a grave tone and soon cast [Wind Barrier] spell to block his [Finger of Destruction] spell.
Meanwhile, Charles started to feel anxious.
'Old man, you still didn't find the suspicious-looking guy?' He couldn't help but show a gloomy look on his face.
'No, lad. I think he hadn't revealed himself yet.' The Holem's Crown responded solemnly.
Then, another round of battle happened in the sky.
…
Black Tower, 4th layer,
A black-haired obese man was seated on a wooden chair in the experiment hall and calmly watched the battle through a strange mirror.
"All of them are already exhausted, Your Highness." He analyzed the battle and said.
Meanwhile, a strange reddish eyeball floated next to him and appeared eerier.
It stared at the mirror for the next few seconds, and soon a monotonous voice came out from it.
"Hmm, something is wrong, Willy… He isn't using his 'Mind-Fire' skills and seems to be holding back. Did he sense a variation? Wait… He has a skill that could predict future events… Let's make a change in our plan and kill him for real. Let's go to the top and lay out a small concealing array before taking action. Otherwise, he might find out our location."
"Yes, Your Highness." Willy tersely acknowledged his words and started storing the mirror into his space ring.
After that, he stealthily walked out of the experimental hall and started walking upstairs.

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
