Chapter 327: Slap
"Parents?" The blonde-haired youngster asked.
Charles went silent for a moment and soon said with a sigh.
"Dead."
"An orphan?" The youngster raised his eyebrows and then continued to ask more questions about Charles's personal information.
Once he was done, he placed the scroll in the nearby cabin and asked questions about Destiny Lady's personal information.
After some time, he also placed another scroll in the cabin and asked.
"How are you going to do the payment? Normal gold coins or Azure payment method?" He asked.
"Azure payment method?" Charles wore a surprised look on his face as he heard the new term and asked.
Upon hearing his questions, the youngster stared at him like a country bumpkin and shook his head.
"I've no time to give you answers, Filthy Orphan." He said in a cold tone and then turned his attention towards another brown scroll.
Meanwhile, Destiny Lady let out a sigh of relief and spoke to Charles in a solemn tone.
"Don't speak for a while. I'll give you an explanation later." Saying so, she took out a few crystalline cards from her space ring and passed them to the youngster.
"These are the payments, Mr. Beckett."
Meanwhile, the youngster named Beckett took those cards from her hand and spoke.
"You can come back tomorrow and get your new identities."
Upon hearing his words, Destiny Lady nodded and asked a question as she thought of something.
"Is there any job available now? We want some high-payment job."
An irritated expression appeared on Beckett's face.
"Get in line. If you want to stay one more day, change your attitude and act like how a runaway fugitive would act." He said in an icy tone.
Upon hearing those harsh words, even Destiny Lady went gloomy for a moment and sighed helplessly.
'Just as I thought, this guy is hard to deal with.'
Before she could even say another word, Beckett looked at her up and down and then spoke.
"Lord Richie will come to the Lion Bar once in a week and select candidates for all kinds of odd jobs. If you are lucky, you might get his attention."
Destiny Lady politely bowed her head, turned around, and started walking towards the exit.
Charles also didn't mind the youngster's tone and followed after the Destiny Lady.

Within a minute, they left the two-storied building and started walking on the dirt road.
Meanwhile, Charles silently observed the surroundings and soon asked.
"Care to tell me more about this Azure payment system?"
"It's more like an Arcane Credit system, but the Wealth Church is the one who is managing this. After the end of the first Arcane Era, the Wealth Church imitated the Arcane Credit System and tried to recreate a similar currency for Mages and Mystics. Unfortunately, the four pillar Empires opposed this method and refused to follow it. You know, if the Empires allowed such methods, the Wealth Church might have already gained complete control over the continental Mystics."
"Fortunately, they didn't agree to it. With no other choice, the Wealth Church did another change, created a total of four different credit systems like Azure payment method, Rogue Credits, Elemental Crystal Method, and finally the Blood system. For example, Azure payment is a method that could only be used in Azure Federation. The same goes for other systems. This is to maintain the flow of currency between commoners and the Mystics."
"What does this Azure Payment system? Is it something like cards? Merit Points?" Charles asked as he walked beside her.
Meanwhile, Destiny Lady glanced at the surrounding houses and Inns and continued to explain as she started walking towards a particular Inn.
"It's more like a currency. But unlike gold coins, this azure currency is made of a very precious metal called 'Azure Mithril-"
Before she could finish her sentence, Charles suddenly turned his head and stared at her in surprise.
"Did you just say Azure Mithril?" He asked.
"You knew about this metal? But I heard that this is only found in the Endless Sea, though. Anyway, most of the Mages use this Azure Mithril currency to do the transactions. If I'm not wrong, a single Azure Mithril coin would be equal to 50,000 gold coins to 60,000 gold coins. That's why even Rank-4 mages would find it hard to use this method."
Although Destiny Lady got surprised by his knowledge, she didn't ask further and continued to explain.
Meanwhile, Charles returned to his normal state and started to think.
'Azure Mithril... If I'm not wrong, the Mystic Towers from the game are purely made of this mysterious metal and have some deep connection with the World Tree. Although that game might be some kind of imitation of any one of these worlds, I have a vague feeling that this Federation might know some information about the Mystic Towers. I've to send this information to the main body quickly.'

While he was in muse, both of them soon arrived in front of an Inn called Sleeping Bee Inn, opened the wooden door, and walked in.
After that, they rented two rooms for the next few weeks and moved to a particular table in the reception hall.
At that moment, more than 20 people were seated at different tables and were minding their own business like playing cards, talking about their jobs, and so on.
Although some gave them a curious glance, Charles and Destiny Lady didn't mind them and directly moved towards the table on the other corner.
Then, they sat opposite each other and ordered some food like grilled pork spareribs, steamed lamb, braised duck, and so on.
Charles also ordered some low-alcohol wine and waited.
After some time, the waiter returned to their table with multiple dishes and placed them in order.
Without mind other peoples' stares, Charles picked up a grilled chicken wing, soaked it in a tomato sauce, and took a bite.
At that moment, Destiny Lady also started to eat and then asked.
"Do you think we will get picked up by Richie?"
"I don't think so. If my guess is not wrong, they would've long selected the candidates. Lion Bar gathering might be just to stop the other refugees from moving out of this street and find other agents. They need the help of outsiders, but they don't want their pawns to grow stronger." Charles said in a cold tone.
Although he was just a clone, he had almost all of Charles's memories and experiences and knew how a corrupted guard would think.
Upon hearing his words, Destiny Lady turned solemn and asked.
"Is there any other way to get a job?"
When he was about to say something, he suddenly saw a short blonde-haired youngster entering the Inn and furrowed.
Simultaneously, the other Mystics also noticed the youngster's presence and hurriedly stopped their discussion.
What's more even shocking was that a few Rank-3 Mystics even stood up from their seats and silently walked out of the Inn.
On the other hand, Beckett glanced at everyone and soon turned his gaze towards the Inn owner.
The Inn owner was a deep-blue-haired man in his late 20s and was currently sweating all over his face.
"S-Sir Beckett! Please take a seat." He hurriedly walked out of the counter, moved towards the nearby table, and invited him to sit.
On the other hand, Beckett snorted coldly and spoke in a threatening manner.
"Rocco, do you think I don't know anything about that matter? Even after Richie's warning, not only did you contact the sheriff, but you even went to the Federation's main office and made a complaint about him! Humph, I already told Lord Richie about your schemes. Once he comes back from the main office, he will skin you alive."
Just as the Inn Owner named Rocco was about to speak, Charles suddenly stood up from his seat.
This time, not only the nearby Mystics, even Destiny Lady got startled.
Without minding their gazes, he took a step forward, walked on the concrete floor, and soon arrived in front of the duo.
Upon sensing Charles's cold gaze, Beckett frowned a bit and warned him.
"Newbie, Stay away from this. Otherwise, you might lose your life tomorrow-"
Slap!
Before he could finish his words, a loud slapping sound echoed in the reception hall!
"One more word, I'll kill you." Charles gave him another slap, grabbed his collar, and directly tossed him out of the building!
Then, he pushed open the wooden door, locked his gaze on the bloody-faced Beckett, and added.
"Scram."
Saying so, he turned around, walked towards the end of the reception hall, arrived next to the wooden table, and sat on his seat.
He then picked up the half-eaten grilled chicken, took a bite, and said with a smile.
"Our job is confirmed now."
On the other hand, the whole reception hall went dead silent!
Nobody spoke a word for a whole minute!
The same goes for Destiny Lady.
Although she did expect that he would do something reckless, she never imagined that he would slap such an influential figure!
"You are crazy!" She spoke in a loud voice.

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).
