Cultivation Pet Shop Chapter 88

Once the voice dropped, there was a flash of light in front of them before a white figure appeared on stage.
That person was dressed in a completely white embroidered robe with jet black hair that hung down to his waist. In his hand, there was a pure white spear with a jet black tip.
If one looked closely they would be able to see a faint blue outline around that person.
That person looked over the participants sitting in the stand before stabbing his spear into the ground and suddenly starting to clap.
That person laughed as he continued to clap, looking a bit like a lunatic. But once he stopped clapping, he said with a smile, "Congratulations, congratulations, all of you have qualified for my inheritance. As you may have guessed by now, my name is Xie Jun, the owner of this Inheritance Realm." The voice that came out of that person was the exact same voice as the voice of the trial.
After a slight pause, that person continued speaking, "Now as stated before, all of you will receive a reward for making it this far."
With a single snap, there were ten balls of golden light that appeared in front of them, one for each person. Inside each of the golden balls of light was a Storage Ring.
Xie Jun then said, "Of course, there is a difference in reward based on the time you arrived, since this is a world where the talented thrive." At this, he slowly turned to Lin Fan.
When everyone saw Xie Jun turn to Lin Fan, they all knew the meaning behind this and it was like there was a target instantly placed on Lin Fan's back.
But Xie Jun's gaze didn't stay on Lin Fan for long as he turned back to looking over them as he said, "Now, like I've said before, there is only one person who will obtain my inheritance, but how are we going to decide that person you ask? It's very simple, you will now all participate in a battle royale and the last person standing will be the one who obtains it."

After saying this, Xie Jun's eyes turned sharp, "While I may have taught you different lessons, you have to remember that as experts, you should take what you want with your own hands. That will be the case in every scenario you meet in the future and if you're not willing to fight, you deserve nothing."
Lin Fan revealed a cold smile at this, Angela and the two gray cloaked people didn't seem to care at all, but there was a chill that ran down the spines of all the other people.
Seeing this, Xie Jun gave a satisfied nod before saying, "Alright, now I'm sure that as young people, you are all impatient. So, let the battle royale begin."
With another snap, all of them were suddenly transported into the arena, placed in a perfect circle around the walls of the arena with an equal distance between all of them.
The strange thing for Lin Fan was that he and Angela had been placed on opposite sides of the arena.
But for Huo Yan, he was filled with excitement since he was placed right on Lin Fan's left.
As for the two gray cloaked people, they were perfectly just on the left and right of Lin Fan, being equidistant to Lin Fan and Angela.
Once they appeared, Xie Jun floated over to the main spectator seat which was a box seat that was right over Lin Fan's head.
When he landed in his seat, he gave a nod as he looked over them before saying, "You can start now."
There was no signal or anything, he just started the fight with this.
All the normal participants summoned out their pets, but they all stayed in their starting positions. They knew that as long as they made a move now, it would be easy for others to team up on them. The best move they had was to stay in position and wait for someone else to start the fight.
As for Angela, she didn't seem to care at all as she walked straight forward towards Lin Fan.
When the others saw this, at first they thought that it was a chance for them to act, but when they met Angela's cold gaze, they found that they were unable to move.

Just what kind of monster was this?
She could stop them with just a single glance!
While Angela was slowly moving across the arena, Huo Yan took his chance and turned. He pointed right at Lin Fan and shouted, "Now, you will fight me!"
At that, he charged right out at Lin Fan, but Lin Fan didn't want to bother with this kid at all. Still Huo Yan didn't give him a choice.
Huo Yan exploded with flames and this time without the suppression of the Dragon Might, he could freely move and catch up to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan could have just avoided him, but he knew that if he didn't handle this now, this kid would bother him later.
Since he had no choice in this matter, it was better to crush this kid now.
Lin Fan immediately erupted with the golden law of power.
At first Huo Yan thought that this was just the golden energy of the Gold Realm and he was disappointed, but then he realized that this wasn't just golden life energy, this was actually the power of a law!
Huo Yan gathered his flames around and riding on his Inferno Wolf, he turned into a giant ball of flame hurtling towards Lin Fan.
But as he was charging, he was shocked by what Lin Fan did next.
Lin Fan spared no effort at all and released all three of his laws, creating the golden studded gauntlet once again.
It wasn't just Huo Yan, even Xie Jun sitting up top was shocked to see Lin Fan suddenly releasing three laws.
Even in the upper realm, it was rare to see someone who had mastery over two laws. Those that did were already fiercely fought for by the ten factions, even drawing out high elders that wanted to take them as disciples.
Someone who had three laws would definitely become the holy son of a faction and would be groomed as their next leader!
The two in gray cloaks narrowed their eyes when they saw this before looking at each other, knowing what either person was thinking. They never imagined that they would be able to find someone with three laws down on this lower realm.
They were already both planning on contacting their factions and having them secretly contact Lin Fan, but they also clearly knew what the others were thinking.
Actually, Lin Fan had a total of four laws already, but the wind law wasn't as developed as the others since it was still in the preliminary stage, taking the form of a tornado. The statue it formed hadn't broken down yet into pure energy that Lin Fan could use.
While Lin Fan could draw out the energy of the wind law from the statue, he didn't dare mix it with the other three laws since the unbalance of energy would make the combination collapse and he wasn't sure he could handle the backlash of that.
Huo Yan was shocked by Lin Fan's display, but he didn't stop, he just continued pushing forward with his blazing ball of flames.
Lin Fan just raised his right hand and casually punched out.
The force generated by the mix of the three laws wasn't something that Huo Yan could break through at all, it was much stronger than his flame law alone. Not to mention that Huo Yan was only in the low Platinum Realm, having only made a breakthrough a few weeks ago. His control of the power of laws still wasn't at a stable level yet.
It was no surprise when the clash between Lin Fan and Huo Yan ended with Huo Yan's ball of flames being completely shattered and Lin Fan's fist slamming into Huo Yan's chest.
Spitting up a quick mouthful of blood, Huo Yan couldn't even react as he was sent out of the arena.
The last thing he did was look at Lin Fan in shock and a bit of confusion because he had felt a bit of his life energy being sucked away from him.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
