I Did Many Dangerous Things After Knowing When I Would Die Chapter 36

At this point, not only were the people in the livestream surprised by the exotic artifact that was in Blake's grip, but even Monroe, who was trailing behind Blake in her ethereal form, was looking at the Lotus Lamp in shock.
'What kind of treasure is this?
'It can actually restrain the pests?
'Where did this guy get it from?
'I didn't notice it before…'
Monroe was bewildered. There was more to this boy than she had initially thought, but why was his fate so unfortunate?
As Monroe was lost in her thoughts, her curiosity about Blake started to build up in her heart bit by bit.
…
Everyone was pondering about the tool in Blake's possession, but only Blake himself knew about its origin.
Obviously, it had been given to him by the system; the Ghost-Seeking Compass and the Obsidian Carving Knife were only among the few that he received. The system had blessed him with hundreds of sacred weapons.
Ever since he had entered the tomb, he had been looking for a divine tool that would take his fancy among the myriad of items bestowed upon him, and it turned out to be this Lotus Lamp. Its function was to form a barrier that repelled all spiritual creatures within its range. ...
Blake had originally planned to use this lamp to escape from the chamber, but he met Monroe before he could execute his plan, so he hadn't been able to take it out.
However, it wasn't too late. He could utilize it to save the Criminal Investigation Division.
The Criminal Investigation Division...
This name wasn't unfamiliar to Blake.
In his previous life, all the members of the expedition team who arrived at the cemetery tonight were killed, and the Criminal Investigation Division had been the ones to dispatch their troops to cordon this place off.
In that timeline, according to the official information released, the Criminal Investigation Division had managed to solve the mystery of this place, but they suffered heavy losses.
He did not know exactly what their sacrifices were, but what he did know was that their major casualty was the loss of their captain, who was the man he had just rescued.

However, Blake had a good impression of him and his men, who did not escape during the disaster but stayed to hold this place down.
He had decided to protect them and help them evacuate before he incarcerated Rakshasa – the root of this whole problem.
...
Blake held the Lotus Lamp and slowly walked through the cemetery, going through the men of the Criminal Investigation Division who had fallen into the craters of the ground and had their bodies infested with the corpse insects.
During this process, all the bugs in front of him quickly split apart when they came into contact with the light of the lantern and fled frantically.
Just like that, Blake was completely unharmed and it took him about 20 minutes to finally rescue those trapped and move them to a safe place. The viewers in the livestream were watching the entire time, and they cheered vehemently. It was as if they regarded Blake as a hero!
However, this was not the end.
Just as Blake heaved a sigh of relief, a soldier of the Criminal Investigation Division pointed to a direction in the distance and said, "There! Blake, there's another one of us being held by John Jones, unable to escape!"
The man panted as he spoke.
Everyone looked in the direction of his finger and saw that John Jones was pointing a gun at a member of the Criminal Investigation Division, holding him hostage to escape from this place.
Everyone's face scrunched up in anger as they watched John Jones, and gnashed their teeth furiously.
"This bastard! He actually held someone from the Criminal Investigation Division hostage! What a scoundrel!"
"He's doing it so brazenly! Why didn't I realize his true self earlier?"
Everyone commented resentfully.
However, the captain had a complicated expression. He wriggled his mouth, willing words to come out but hesitated before he finally said, "Blake, I don't know if you can save them…"
As he spoke, his men also looked at Blake with pleading eyes.
They honestly couldn't care less about John and his expedition team members, but their friend was being threatened; they couldn't just leave their comrade in trouble like that.

Blake looked at their desperate eyes. After a moment of silence, he picked up the Lotus Lamp and walked back toward the mass of corpse pests again.
Immediately, their eyes sparkled with admiration and gratefulness, holding Blake in the highest regard.
John and the others had left Blake in the tomb and escaped alone, but Blake still turned back to help them. How had he still been able to extend such kindness to them?
Everyone couldn't help but idolize him.
...
Blake walked over to John Jones' side.
The army of bugs were crawling closer. He approached the two of them and shouted to John, "Let him go. I'll bring you back."
When John Jones heard his voice, he looked from Blake to the Lotus Lamp in his hand, and back to Blake. He was so surprised that he could not utter a single word.
'This guy is not dead!'
John Jones was in disbelief.
'If Blake isn't dead, it must mean that my lie has been exposed. The netizens in the livestream are probably cursing me right now,' John thought to himself frantically.
John Jones was dead silent, but it wasn't the time for him to think about this. Escaping should be his top priority.
'I've fooled this boy so many times, and yet he keeps coming back for me.
'Clearly he's just a stupid pig without a brain.
'When I get rescued, I'll just make up another excuse and the people will definitely put their trust in me again…'
With this thought in mind, he loosened his arm around the Criminal Investigation Division's member.
"Okay, I'll let him go. Blake, come here."
John plastered a huge smile across his face.
The soldier broke free from John's clutches and ran towards Blake without hesitation.
Blake caught a handful of flame from his magic device and placed it on another lamp platform. He extended his hand and handed it to the soldier.
"Take the lamp and go! Run to a safe place!"
After he finished speaking, he strode towards John Jones.
John looked at Blake who was getting closer and closer, his eyes filled with scorn.
'This stupid boy, he really came to save me again. He's really dumb!
'But, what's with the lamp in his hand? What's that treasure?
'Did Blake take it from the tomb?'
John Jones's thoughts flickered through his mind.
Bang!
Caught up in his thoughts, he felt something in his right hand. He snapped himself out of his trance and looked at it.
He had never expected for Blake to brazenly walk up to his side and directly hand the Lotus Lamp to him!
What did it mean?
'This guy... What is he planning?'
John Jones had a puzzled look.
Suddenly, Blake grabbed his arm and started shouting.
"John Jones! Let go of my hand! Why did you take my lamp? Why?"
John Jones was stunned as he looked at Blake, who was acting on his own. He had no idea what was going on.
After a long time, he realized that this kid was acting! He was putting up a front for the Criminal Investigation Division!
John's eyes bulged in anger. He was about to say something, but it was too late.
Blake gently shoved him and his body lost balance, falling straight into the pit of broken rocks, soil and infested vermin.
Within a split second, his limbs and torso were covered by the swarm of insects.
His mouth was left hanging half-opened, and his eyeballs moved to look at Blake, who was above him, waving with a smile. Blake smiled slightly as he mouthed, "Goodbye."
Blake had no intention to help John from the beginning at all!
John Jones' body went colder as every second passed, and his heart soon stopped beating.

Advent of the Mindfire Mage: A Challenger's Return Story
Updates MWF, 6PM EST! Not so long ago, a story was posted on Webnovel, one that fired my imagination unlike almost anything before or since. It was known as The Challenger's Return: Rebirth of the Rainbow Mage. However, 150 chapters in, the author NightWind, who I'd personally interacted with and begun to consider a true friend, vanished from the internet without a trace. And so, I have acted upon my fervent desire to pick up his torch, to refuse to let his world that stirred such passion in me die. Read below about my own take on The Challenger's Return. Was Lheticus summoned to the Tower by chance, or by choice? Either way, with the new power he wins, he won't hesitate to burn anyone who seeks to keep him from his true love to cinders, and with a unique ability of the highest potential, he may just succeed, but he's just as likely to burn himself down. And as it turns out, the latter case may be woven into his very destiny...can that destiny be changed? And if it is, what will be the repercussions for the Tower? (You may want to read a fair amount of the original Challenger's Return before starting this, as, particularly in the early chapters, many things that are laid out in it are glossed over in this story.)
