《Do You Like Skydiving?》1.37 - Thunderstorms

“So, what do you think?" Hazel asked.
Cadell heard the words loud and clear but they held no meaning. He pretended to be brain dead as he sat on a swivel chair, staring at graffiti on the floor of Psycho’s Asylum. The words, I will cleanse the city, engraved the surface in bold white. The phrase was supposed to be a symbol of commitment, dedication and obsession but now it was a reminder of what he couldn’t do properly any more.
A sharp pain erupted from Cadell’s shin. He looked up slightly, frowned, then gazed back at the floor. Relative to the perpetual headache and the scorch marks peppered around his body, Hazel’s kick was only a drop of pain in a sea of agony.
Hazel grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him repeatedly. “Stop brooding, you big baby.” Cadell’s body lifelessly flopped forwards and backwards like a broken toy. “Cheer up. You’re stronger than this.”
The shaking continued, proceeded by more shin kicks, proceeded by a few slaps.
“This isn’t the Psycho I know,” Hazel sighed.
Hearing his superhero name somehow brought Cadell back to life as he finally acknowledged Hazel’s existence. Elijah out did himself; the Manic super suit was stunning. The body suit was leaf green, sprinkled with smiley faces reminiscent to the Psycho mask. The Manic mask was essentially the purple portal in physical form, consisting of intricately drawn purple swirls. It was creepy, like a faceless demon.
Cadell stuck his bottom lip out while giving a thumbs up. “It’s good. Are all the features-”
“Yes!” Hazel interjected. “And let’s test the thing now.” Cadell could practically hear her grin hidden underneath her mask.
“What are you talking about?”
“The thing. Don’t play dumb. You know. You obviously can’t see my face but I’m winking dramatically by the way.”

Cadell stood up. “There’s no need. It will work. You’re ready.”
“Aww, thank you so much! Two compliments in one conversation by the big chief Psycho.”
“The superhero,” Cadell corrected
“Hm?”
“Psycho the Superhero. That’s the full title. It’s one thing. Without the last part you just get… you know.”
“What, Psycho?”
“Yeah, that.”
“But aren’t you called that as well?”
“Yeah but…” Cadell didn’t finish his sentence. He already wanted to end the conversation.
“Anyway,” Hazel began stretching her arms. “Let’s take down a crime syndicate, partner.”
“No,” Cadell whispered.
Hazel’s head tilted to one side. “What?”
Cadell couldn’t believe what he was saying. For the first time, he was reluctant to go out there.
A sudden thought hit him. It was a deep sinking feeling that had him fighting back tears.
Is this it? Am I done?
“I don’t think I can…” Cadell paused, swallowing down his pride. “This phobia is so strong. I can’t do this.” He proceeded to tell Hazel about his overwhelming defeat with the Hustlers.
"So you’re on medication now as a precaution?”
“Yeah."
“I see, I see. There, there.” Hazel patted Cadell’s back but the sympathy didn’t seem sincere. “Can I give you my thoughts? There’s a short one and a long one. You can choose which one’s first.”
“Okay, short version.”
“Actually, no, I’ll do the long version first.”
“I hate you.”
Hazel shrugged. “When I was a child, whenever it rained heavy at night, my mum would wake me and my dad up, turn off all the lights and turn the sofa to face the windows. We would all sit there with hot chocolate and listen to the storm while waiting to see the lightning. We lived on a hill and could see for miles. Over a decade passes and I hear from my dad that my mum hated them and was terrified but by waking us up and pretending she loved them she found she could cope.”

Cadell frowned, trying to figure out what the message in the story was. “What’s the short version?”
Hazel took off her mask just to glare at him. “Stop being a coward and trust me! I’ll have your back. You’ll face your fear and conquer it.”

The Little Black Umbrella
Gillean had just lost his best friend and is feeling utterly miserable and lonely. Being smart doesn't fend off loneliness. If nothing having the combination of smarts AND the lack of forward planning got him into the state he currently was in - rejection and the feeling of being a failure. Cue in the sounds of angelic trumpets. RaRa, his best friend, returns to "save the day". Well. What she thinks of as saving the day that is. Corny ideals, lame ideas. The two get into one last patch of trouble together as they sneak back into RaRa's home. Just what kind of family secrets has RaRa been keeping from Gill. In blood and thunder, Gill finds out. Please read the content warnings (there may be spoilers within though) if you have triggers. Also there is a slight mention of LGBTQ+, so please don't read this short story if even a short mention bothers you. ======================= My first short story (It's short - 5 chapters, 10,000 word-ish kinda short! And also completed *self pats* that I will be releasing in mini chapters (of 500-800 words each) on Fridays and Saturdays.). Happy to hear actionable and constructive criticisms on how I can improve, but please don't be too harsh okay? :) I know it's not perfect. But hey, we all have to start somewhere.

A Fool's Journey, or the Vagrancies of a Man in Exotic Lands
What does a sad bastard do when fate, literally, decides to throw him into a fantasy world? Solon just wanted to lead a normal life; work, share some pizza with friends, work, play some videogames or read something, work, maybe sleep?, work... Pretty much the usual, rinse and repeat. It was far from perfect, but life was nicely boring and comfy enough. Truth be told, he had hoped it would go on forever, or until he got married, or until the apocalypse finally decided to bring an end to everything. As far as he could tell, though, the former was about as likely as the latter; not very. And perhaps even somewhat related, if it ever came to it. Unfortunately, he saw himself involved in some sort of cosmic fart that screwed him over, brutally severing his life-plan. Or, maybe, would it be more suitable to say that Fate had other plans? Sure, he's yet to find out exactly what those plans might be, but, at the very least, they do seem to involve him being shoved into another world, fighting off a couple of horrendous creepers, and -almost- an accidental liaison with a baboon. Needless to say, the job doesn't come with dental care, and death seems more likely than retirement... Yep, when he got yoinked out of Earth, there were no princesses waiting for him, no sexy goddesses, and no severe Gandalf-wannabes! Heck, not even a bunch of demonic cultists! All he got for the trouble was a bunch of snarky windows and the honest desire to punch whatever bastard happens to be behind the smug System. Well, that, and a few forced trips to the so-called Tower of Ascension. Not exactly what he would have expected but, on the plus side, he does get to do some magic. Though, not quite the wand-waving kind. Whatever. One thing’s patently clear, though, he’s certainly not the chosen one, nor the summoned hero, nor the Savior. If anything, he himself might be in need of some saving... Just what kind of fool does the System take him for? Please do consider the tags. Also, 'Strong Lead' here means weak to strong, over a decent amount of time, not op from the very beginning. Things to expect: decent grammar, cheeky goats. Things not to expect: Harems, a decent sense of fashion.

Twoen
The struggle for an interesting game has been the story of my life for quite some time. Every game I find is either too easy, not interesting or too short. Luckily, my two brothers who match my level of skill, albeit in different areas, tend to spice things up. When I look at my older brother I have no idea how he gets anything done when he's such an idiot. Still it doesn't detract from my respect for him as a gamer, though maybe a little. When I look at my younger brother I marvel at the monster that my older brother and I created. Deadliness, craftiness and quiet, both in what he does and how he is. When it's just us three we tend to destory everything in our path. So normally we tend to compete rather than team. Although that isn't to say we're just good as individuals. When we work together our effectiveness multiplies rather than lowering. Well enough about us dorks. Anyway a new VR game came out, apparently in development for quite some time. Of course my older brother decided to drive out and buy three copies. What would this one be missing? Difficulty? Depth? Length? In any case I plan to reach the top before my brothers do. It was a competition after all. Twoen had all three things I normally yearn for in spades. Something I did not foresee. A keeper
