Chapter 18: Pyroxene Town
Translator: Sigma Editor: – –
The Pyroxene town laid against the mountains . Mountains surrounded three sides of it . There was only one road leading to this town . This road was not broad, but it was wide enough for two chariots running parallel .
At this moment, a chariot had fallen over in the middle of the road . A group of traveling salesmen was chaotically helping hold the chariot up . The only road to enter and leave the town was blocked . Everyone couldn’t advance or retreat . For a moment, everything was in complete chaos . Yelling, cursing and reviling sounds mixed with one another, which had somewhat made the people’s tempers get hotter . Someone had already rolled up their sleeves for a fight .
“How annoying!” Gerrard furrowed his brows, approaching the crowd . Although these people were quarreling, they still properly made way for the super big man, as they saw him coming .
But he also didn’t know that there was a pair of ill-intentioned eyes attentively staring at him among the crowd .
This “Car Accident” was actually arranged by the vice president of the Pyroxene Town’s Thieves Guild to test out that giant’s ability and personality . He was always careful when doing things . If he didn’t get the inside information of the matter beforehand, he would never recklessly make any moves .
That tipped chariot was a transporting one, which was hauling iron ore . Although the goods were scattered all over the ground, the body of the chariot was not completely destroyed . That could show that it was made from a pretty solid material . But the coachman was also injured from the fall and wasn’t able to stand up from the ground .
Gerrard furrowed his brows, walked over and grabbed the chariot frame with one hand, then pushed both the chariots forward, as well as the carriage with half of the number of the goods left . People seeing him do so were dumbstruck . Some even pinched their own cheeks as they thought that they were dreaming .
This chariot was made of many materials . Any part of this chariot was like a sturdy rough wooden hand . The goods loaded on the chariot were all severe ore . The goods on this chariot must be more than three, four thousand catties (1 catty = 500g) . However, the weight of them seemed to be nothing in front of this giant . He could lift them up with just one hand .
“This punk’s strength is tremendous!” A person surprisingly yelled out .
“No wonder he is a Giant!” Someone wailed .
Some inexperienced adventurers were even more frightened—-the Giant Race was born with a great power . But among the talented giants, a giant fellow who was called “mountain ridge giant” could easily lift up two, three thousand catties .
In other words, this giant was not only a giant but also a high-level adventurer .
A veteran adventurer’s ability was always much bigger than a normal person’s . There were only a few adventurers with an exceptional strength who could have had an ability to lift up a thousand catties . If comparing to these guys, that giant’s power would definitely be more horrible .
Because . . . If one was born from an excellent race, his speed would become slower as he grew up . . .
After seeing Gerrard’s performance, “Gray Eye” was scared to the point that he was trembling . His legs sw gave out . At this moment, he was very glad that he had ordered the other thieves to come here and didn’t bring any thugs from the Thieves Guild . Otherwise, those with developed muscles and empty brains would try to plot and kill Gerrard at this moment when he approached the chariot .

Then it wouldn’t be different than dying in the same place!
Even if this giant was not a Giant race’s formidable adventurer, and was just from a normal race, just only the fact that he could be able to lift up thousands catties was enough to prove his formidableness . “Fast Knife” brothers? Even the whole Pyroxene town’s Thieves Guild from young to old couldn’t be certain in defeating this guy . . .
Gerrard also didn’t know that there was someone who was scheming against him . He also didn’t know how much fear he had brought to his horrifying evil enemies . At this moment, all his attentions were on the old horse which was lying on the ground .
There were many bruises on the body of this horse . It must have been through so many hardships . It was trying to get up, but it couldn’t do it . With a closer look, he could see that it might have broken its back . Its two hind legs couldn’t move, while its front legs were still struggling . Its eyes were full of a miserably tragic look, which made people couldn’t help but feel pity for it .
Gerrard sighed heavily, no matter if it was human or horse, having such a fatal wound was incurable . What he could do right now was to help him feel less pain .
Since he had just come back from the death, he was more and more sympathetic toward other people’s pain . His compassion gradually matured as well . But no matter how sympathetic he was, he couldn’t help this pathetic animal .
“Do you want to save it?” Sui Xiong asked .
Gerrard was frightened, he asked, “Highness, do you agree to save this pitiful guy?”
Sui Xiong beamed a smile, “To be honest, I don’t have much sympathy toward animals . But if you want me to save it, I am willing to help you . ”
“Highness, your kindness is like a sun that warms people!”
“Alright, stop flattering me . Put your hand on top of the wounded spot of that horse . I will stimulate the dark power from your bone bracelet to cure it . ” Sui Xiong smilingly said, “Honestly speaking, this fellow’s wound is a little serious . I am also not sure if it works . However, just give it a try, how can we let it die like this?”
Under Sui Xiong’s command, Gerrard sat on his heels, put his right hand that had the bone bracelet on the gray horse’s back . After that, the blood in his body immediately moved, part of the dark power in the magic stone was stimulated and poured into the gray horse’s body . These kinds of dark power under Sui Xiong’s sophisticated control were like many small and marvelous machines, straightening up the gray horse’s injured joint, reconnecting its broken muscles, blood vessels and nerves, finally transferring vitality, comforting its body, boosting the growth of the body and making the injured part grow once again .
In just a short duration of one minute, the gray horse, which was originally dying, let out a cheering hiss, stood up again .
“Gosh! What have I just seen? !” A person frighteningly shouted out .
“Is this giant a priest? The Giant Race does have a priest inside?” A veteran adventurer didn’t believe in his own eyes .
“Moreover . . . this priest’s healing magic is from the Gods . Who is this humane God that uses his God Power to heal a horse? Is he perhaps a Centaur God?”
“Pooh! The Centaur God is an evil God, right! The one who asks his believers to sacrifice their blood . . . ”
“Is it perhaps a Druid?”
“I’ve heard that the Giant Race has Druids . . . ”
“But I’ve also never heard the Giant Race has any priests either . ”
“The Druid basically wouldn’t use their magic to save a horse . They just only help this horse extirpate . After all, you guys have never met any Druids!”
Among the crowd, the eyes of the Gray Eye were glowering like Dove eggs, staring at the bone bracelet on Gerrard’s wrist .
When Gerrard assisted in displaying the magic, he somewhat had figured out the power on the bone bracelet .
“There is an extremely strong willpower hidden inside that bracelet . It is so formidable that it can display the healing magic! No, this is not a normal healing magic . This is a restoration spell as it can heal the broken bones, paralyzed muscles . It is a Divine Technique that can even connect a broken leg! That horse’s spine has been definitely broken . However, it can be healed in such a short time . . . This giant is not a freaked priest . He is just a relative of the God! It is actually his religious God’s doing! That bone bracelet is their religious sect’s holy object! Gosh, I was wanting to steal a true god mental power holy object! Fortunately, I didn’t do it . . . This is definitely the Golden Finger (Thief God)’s blessing, preventing me from making a fatal mistake . . . . ”
He suddenly got enlightened, hurriedly closed his eyes, didn’t dare to look at that God will bone bracelet anymore, turned around and left . Before leaving, he didn’t forget to tell his underlings to retreat as well .
After a while, he had returned to the Pyroxene town’s Thieves Guild, reported this matter to the president with a pale face .
“What? ! A true God’s will holy object?!” The old man’s heart, which was usually calm, skipped a half of a beat, “are you sure you didn’t mistake it?”
“There is absolutely no mistake!” The vice president was like chopping the nail and slicing the iron, ensuring, “President, you think, being able to cure a broken spine in just a short amount of time, is this restoration spell?”
He didn’t wait for the President to answer, continued saying, “It is the restoration spell! It is more advanced than medical treatment, the recovery spell, and divine spell . A normal priest can’t basically display such a performance . Even if he is a powerful priest, he definitely has a holy emblem, has been praying for a while before casting it out . But Druid? The time they need to pray to be able to display their magic can only be longer —– but that giant can directly display in a short amount of time . . . This absolutely makes no sense . The only explanation is that he is not the one displaying magic, but it is the willpower inside of that bone bracelet . ”
“Or . . . That bone bracelet is a powerful dark power object, can produce the same healing result like the restoration spell . . . ” The president pensively said, “Although I’ve never heard of this kind of Divine Spell object, maybe someone from Druid clan can make an object like this . . . ”
The Gray Eye shook his head nonstop and said, “President, no matter how powerful a dark magic object can be, there is a limit in the number of displaying times . The restoration spell can only be displayed one or two times a day . But if you have such a treasure like this, will you waste one or two opportunities in a day on healing a horse?”
“Absolutely not . ”
“Right, no one will . Even if they are the kindest people, at the moment when they are about to leave the town to step into the wild, they will definitely not be wasteful like that . ” The vice president sighed then continued, “The fact that he can unnecessarily be wasteful like that means that these God’s spells are endlessly prominent . ”
For a moment, there was no sound in the small room . The first and second owners of the Pyroxene town’s Thieves Guild looked at each other in dismay .
A while later, the president forced a smile then said, “Fortunately . . . We still haven’t made a move . ”
“Yes, that’s right! Luckily my group hasn’t taken any actions yet . ” The vice president was full of joy, “Thank God!”
“Hold on . . . I’ve got an idea . ” The cunning president’s pupils were scanning around . He had another evil thought again, “You say . . . If we leak out one part of this news to our old opponents, what will the result be?”
Gray Eye’s eyes gradually lit up . He lightly twitched the corner of his lips and beamed out a smile .
“President, your idea is so brilliant! Those greedy and cruel bastards will definitely make a move on this giant . . . ”
“That’s why I am the President while you are just vice president!” The president laughed, “I can’t wait to see those empty-headed bastards have their heads hitting on the stone, shedding blood!”
In the small room, two sly foxes snickered together .
On the road outside the town, Sui Xiong reminded Gerrard, “Be careful, a moment ago, there was someone watching you . I am afraid that he wanted to harm you . It is just that after he saw your extraordinary ability, he has realized that it would be difficult for him and retreated to avoid any troubles . ”
His sense was way far stronger than Gerrard’s . The Thieves Guild’s enmity intent was almost discovered by him right when they had just started . Since his opponents hadn’t changed their enmity intent into a killing intent nor had any further actual actions, he hadn’t bothered to attack .
Although those opponents hadn’t taken any actions, it didn’t cost anything to be cautious about this .
As he saw this bald bastard, Gerrard (no, he was actually not bald anymore) more and more pleasing to his eyes; he, of course, didn’t want his capable subordinate to encounter any unexpected accidents .
In fact, he had discovered, it seemed, as if, maybe . . . Gerrard was indeed very mighty!

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
