It was almost 3 pm. Lin Huang decided to grab lunch. He had a quick bowl of ramen at a nearby noodle store, before heading off towards the hinterlands.

As he reached the stronghold exit, his Imperial Heart Ring vibrated and displayed an incoming phone call request.

Lin Huang checked the number and saw that it was unknown. He hesitated a while before accepting it in the end.

“Is this Lin Huang? I’m Yi Yue Yu, where are you now?” Yue Yu’s voice transmitted through the call interface.

“I’m still in the stronghold but I’m about to leave for the hinterlands to train.” Lin Huang was slightly suspicious of this call. Why did she call him? “What’s the matter?”

“You better not leave the stronghold within these few days. I received a report from a team of hunters who just returned, the monsters outside the stronghold are getting aggressive. The same behavior was witnessed in the desert as well. A number of candidates had fallen victim to these monsters, increasing the amount of distress calls we’ve received. At this rate, they might end the examination prematurely.”

“You mean there might be a high ranking monster guiding the other monsters?” She felt that his words made sense but there was still one nagging question. “Since it’s only a One-star Hinterlands, it’s possible. But including the grasslands and the canyons, its range spanned over a thousand km. It’s impossible for a Gold ranked Bewitching type monster to possess such power.”

“What about a monster that surpassed the Gold Rank?” Lin Huang knew this was the moment to reel in his fishing hook.

She immediately hung up. After a round of deliberation, Lin Huang decided it was better to head back to the hotel and await her call. If the Hunter’s Association underestimates the severity of the situation, then the transcendent’s hunting spree will go unchecked and would result in massive casualties for the stronghold.

As he reached the hotel entrance, Yi Yue Yu’s phone call came once more.

“I’m at the hotel’s entrance. We can talk when I reach.” He hung after saying that and rushed to her room.

Yi Yue Yu had a terrible expression on her face as she stood in her living room, however it got better when she noticed Lin Huang enter.

“I’ve reported the incident to the higher ups, and they agreed that it was likely a transcendent monster with bewitching abilities. However, the transcendent in charge of guarding 7C87 for the Association had some business of his own and left. They require at least 3 days to transfer over another transcendent.”

“I sent out an urgent message to all the candidates stating that the examination has been suspended and that they were to immediately activate their SOS beacons and await rescue. However the problem is the lack of manpower.”

“What do you need me to do?” Lin Huang readily offered his help.

“You just have to wait in the hotel lobby and help settle the candidates we bring over. Arrange a room for them and ensure they stay put. Griffins rides aren’t completely safe either. Even if they suspect something, do not divulge the truth. It might cause a panic. Just leave it till I get back.” She had no choice but to turn to Lin Huang for help.

“Alright, I’ll get it done well.” He agreed with the request. “Is there anything else?”

“That’s all for now. If we need anything else, I’ll contact you.” As she said this, she summoned her dimensional door. “I’m leaving to pick up the candidates, head to the lobby and wait for them there.”

Lin Huang waited till she stepped through the door before turning around and heading towards the lobby.

A short while later, Yi Yue Yu returned with a lanky girl in tow, she handed her over to him and left through her doorway without another word.

The girl was slightly taller than Lin Huang and seemed to be 16 years old, but she well developed for her age. She sported a trendy T-shirt, denim shorts and a pair of white running shoes.

“Hi, I’m Lin Huang the temporary receptionist.” He introduced himself to the girl.

“I know you, you are that guy who registered for the exam despite not being a BlackIron!” She finally recognized him as he said this.

“Follow me to register for a room.” Lin Huang changed the topic immediately. He did not expect her to recognize him.

“I’m not staying here. The exam is over so there’s no need for me to waste anymore time here. I want to head to 7C65 to register for the next exam.” As she said this, she started walked off.

However, she was swiftly blocked by Lin Huang as he stretched his arm and blocked her passage. “You are not allowed to leave.”

“Who do you think you are!? If I want to leave, you can’t stop me!” She swiveled around and started at Lin Huang.

“If you wish to leave, you need to seek the approval of the Head Examiner.” He knew she did not take him seriously so he had no choice but to use the head examiner as a threat.

“I’ll forfeit this examination. Is that enough?” The girl persisted. “Can I leave now?”

“No.”

“What’s wrong with you? Just because the Head Examiner is on your side, doesn’t mean you can throw your weight around!” She raised her voice as she said. A number of people started looking at them.

“It doesn’t matter what you say, you can’t leave.” Lin Huang held his ground in spite of this.

“Hmph, you speak as if you can make me stay!” The girl replied, her disdain barely disguised at this moment. “Stand aside, or else!”

“Go ahead and try.” Lin Huang’s Gray Eagle 17 was already in hands as he said this.

“So what if you have a gun?”

She tried to snatch the gun but Lin Huang was too fast for her. The muzzle was already pointed at her head by the time she stretched out her arm.

“You dare to shoot me?!” A human’s body was a lot weaker than a monster’s. This girl was a merely a Two-Star BlackIron, getting shot at this range would definitely kill her, but this did not stop her from talking back.

Lin Huang shifted his gun slightly to the right and fired. The bullet whizzed past her eye and hit a vase. It shattered instantly.

Before she could react to this, he shifted his gun back to her head.

The color instantly drained from her face as she stood there not daring to speak a single word.
