Chapter 689: Fighting against City Lord of White Cloud City
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
Yuan Hong was still facing off against Sage Tianxing and the Sword demon the air. Ye Futian stood on the shoulder of Yuan Hong and cast his eyes on the two Lords from the Holy Zhi Palace.
Sage Tianxing and the Sword Demon came to realize that they were utterly incapable of doing anything against Yuan Hong. It was simply impossible to have Ye Futian and Yuan Hong leave White Cloud City by force.
“Ye Futian, you are being too stubborn. If you get embroiled in all of this as a noble, you will probably never get a chance to back away,” Sage Tianxing said, looking at Ye Futian. The conflict at hand was such that even sages found themselves incapable to interfere, as only the top-notch figures on the Barren Sky Ranking were capable of doing anything about the current situation.
Zhisheng Cliffs, the Holy Zhi Palace, White Cloud City, and the Zhuge family were all caught in it. Despite being a former student of the Holy Zhi Palace, Ye Futian’s plane was too low. If he did not have help from Yuan Hong from Taihang Mountain, he would not have even gotten a chance to speak about anything.
“It is my choice. Even if said choice leads me to hell, I will not regret it.” Ye Futian continued, “I’m rather concerned for the Holy Zhi Palace. If the day comes that the beliefs you all held dear turn out to be little more than lies you keep telling yourselves, what will actually happen when such beliefs crumble?”
“The beliefs of the Holy Zhi Palace are more adamant than you give them credit for.” Sage Tianxing said, “Since you refuse to simply back down, we will have to wait for Bai Gu to return. If Yuan Hong ends up losing, are you sure that it is a result you can bear witness to?”
“We’ll see about that,” Ye Futian said casually and then leaped down from Yuan Hong’s body. The mighty ones who were stationed at the City Lord office of White Cloud City did not leave, putting the people of Bai Clan somewhat safe. Even though the two Lords had been defeated, Ye Futian would not have tried anything funny as long as the mighty ones were still around. At the very least, they would have served as a good deterrent. Right there and then, they only had to wait for the City Lord to return, then go about killing Yuan Hong and Ye Futian, before going up to slaughter the forces of Taihang Mountain.
Time passed and White Cloud City was still in madness. Many descended near the City Lord Office, looking at the regal, imposing estate. They never thought someone would have come messing around with the Bai Clan; the clan with figures ranked fourth and tenth on the Barren Sky Ranking. Furthermore, the person who did so was none other than a youth in the Noble Plane. It was craziness like no other, yet Ye Futian went through with it nonetheless.
A terrifying rumble with the clouds came from far above the airspace of White Cloud City, coming all the way to the Bai Clan estate like a terrifying wave in the air. Many turned to look where the fearsome torrent eventually ended. The rumbling noise was heard and the torrent finally stopped. The City Lord was found standing imposingly in the air. His grey eyes gazed at the ground below, filled with murderous intent as cold as ice.

“The City Lord is here.” The people of White Cloud City were shaken. They never saw the City Lord so angry before. It was anyone’s guess how angry he actually was, knowing that someone invaded the Bai Clan estate.
A grey eye appeared in the air, and it was none other than the Eye of Devastation. The eye stared at where Yuan Hong and Ye Futian stood, and the space they occupied seemed to have been put under lockdown all of a sudden. Yuan Hong, Ye Futian, and the rest of the mighty ones from Taihang Mountain seemed to have been isolated from the world, trapped in the grey world.
At that very moment, Ye Futian felt as if a fearsome hand of devastation reached out for his mind. He turned pale and grunted. Against a top-notch sage who was a Spirit Elementalist, Ye Futian’s plane rendered him utterly helpless.
Yuan Hong cast his eyes at Bai Gu before stepping on the ground. Cracks formed on the City Lord Office with a rumble. Many grunted at the same time, feeling their hearts weighing heavily in their chests. There were many who just went pale and puked blood right there and then.
“Yuan Hong, do you have a death wish?” Bai Gu finally opened his mouth, his voice filled to the brim with murderous intent.
“Come at him one more time and I’ll end your Bai Clan right here, right now,” Yuan Hong said as his golden eyes locked onto Bai Gu.
Bai Gu’s murderous eyes glanced at Ye Futian. He did not pay him any heed back when they were in the Zhuge family estate, as Ye Futian was simply one of the younger generations in the Noble Plane. It hardly mattered what he was able to do back then. However, things were different now. Ye Futian had actually brought people from Taihang Mountain and thrown his weight around in the Bai Clan estate, threatening him. That infuriated Bai Gu to no end, and he deemed that Ye Futian must die to pay for what he did. As such, he had no hesitations in killing Ye Futian; just like how a human would step on an ant. But it was apparent that Yuan Hong intended to cover Ye Futian. If Bai Gu moved against Ye Futian, Yuan Hong would move against the Bai Clan.
“If that is the case, I will simply go about killing you first,” Bai Gu said coldly. Streaks of incredibly terrifying runes sparkled as soon as he finished talking, bombarding Yuan Hong’s surroundings and splitting the earth where he stood. The very ground that Yuan Hong was standing on was uprooted by Bai Gu, lifting the ape high up in the air slowly.
Many were stunned at that very scene. It spoke volumes about the wrath of the City Lord of White Cloud City.
“Wait for me down there,” Yuan Hong said to Ye Futian.
Ye Futian nodded and jumped from the body of the ape. The other golden great apes had him surrounded, but it was actually unnecessary, as no one would have dared move against him before Bai Gu defeated Yuan Hong.
The piece of land Yuan Hong stood on continued being moving in the air like a lone island. It was uprooted from the ground and forcefully taken away from the Bai Clan by Bai Gu. It was apparent that Bai Gu did not wish for his family to be caught in this. The Eye of Devastation controlled the flow of Spiritual Qi, locking down the worldly power around Yuan Hong. At the very same time, shadows of extremely terrifying ancient gods of darkness appeared in the air, all of them coursing with devastating power all over their bodies.

Bai Gu was Bai Luli’s father and he stepped foot into the Sage Hall as well, studying under the Palace Lord of the Holy Zhi Palace. As such, the powers that both father and son studied were rather similar in nature.
“Yuan Hong, what you did today will cause the apes to disappear from the Barren State altogether,” Bai Gu said coldly as his rage boiled inside. The shadows of the ancient gods of darkness went straight for Yuan Hong. Worse still, Yuan Hong’s spiritual will seemed to be assailed by formless hands of darkness.
Boom. Yuan Hong took one step forward. The huge rocks under his feet were turned to dust right there and then as extremely raging demonic aura swirled in the air, pressuring the air they occupied. Golden lights burst from his body, and with a roar of the ape, formless will attack raged. The ears of anyone below within earshot trembled. Many were so rattled that they spat up blood right there and then. Even Ye Futian grunted and blood was seen from the corner of his mouth. The roar of the ape was simply appalling.
Golden spears pierced the air and tore at Yuan Hong. The Polearm of Divine Destruction was held in his hand as it grew to more than a hundred meter long. The 100 thousand jin [1] staff looked even more intimidating in the hands of the great golden ape.
Boom, boom, boom! Yuan Hong’s huge body ran in the air as if it was treading on flat land. Every single step caused a rumble, and a heaven-shattering force gathered about him as he ran. His incredibly huge body leaped into the air and shadows of staffs were conjured from the Polearm of Divine Devastation in an instant. He then went straight for one of the great ancient gods around. The body of the ancient god crumbled with a rumble as Yuan Hong whacked it with his staff. Bai Gu glared at Yuan Hong with cold eyes. He knew from the fight he had with Yuan Hong several months ago that the ape’s power had grown considerably.
The second Life Spirit was unleashed: a huge spell scroll, emanating terrifying aura from within as if a painting was being drawn right there and then. There was another treasure melded within the Life Spirit: Treasure of Saints. Dazzling lights burst, covering the air around it as if endless runes emerged in the sky.
“Lock,” Bai Gu uttered with an ice-cold voice. The spell scroll burst forth, locking the air around, forming a spell barrier with Yuan Hong at the center.
Yuan Hong stepped on the air again with yet another roar. Countless shadows of golden great apes appeared around him. They all lashed out with a staff attack in the air. A stifling rumble was heard as the barrier was shattered. However, things were far from over. Yet another huge skyscraping spell scroll went for Yuan Hong, with every rune inscribed in it imbued with extreme power of destruction.
Bai Gu clenched his fist. Many spell scrolls exploded in an instant. The space they occupied seemed to have been torn apart right there and then. Dark cracks formed in the air, emanating bone-chilling, horrifying, devastating might from within the cracks.
“What is that?” Ye Futian looked at the air above him. The City Lord was indeed a figure ranked fourth on the Barren Sky Ranking. The spells of rules attacks he commanded were frightening.
Yuan Hong, however, swung the Polearm of Divine Devastation about in that space of destruction. Thunderous rumbles were continuously heard from the sky. Terrifying power of destruction blocked out the sight of many, and only a dazzling form of a golden ape could be vaguely seen. They then saw the incredibly huge body of that golden ape going out against Bai Gu, bringing with him a staff attack meant for killing a god.
Bai Gu stood where he was, looking at Yuan Hong with cold eyes. The painting of the spell scroll behind him unleashed blinding beams of light, conjuring many other scrolls of the same kind. Boundless Spiritual Qi of rules descended upon them. Bai Gu’s eye was in total control of all powers within that space, revving to the extreme.
“Great Summoning Spell,” Bai Gu said. A shadow of an ancient god appeared before every spell scroll painting. In that instant, all the ancient gods became filled with raging power, heading straight for Yuan Hong. Shadows of ancient gods were seen in Bai Gu’s eyes as he looked forward and said, “Yuan Hong, now experience the newest power I have come to develop—the Heaven Destruction Print.” As soon as he finished, many of the ancient god’s immensely huge bodies went charging at Yuan Hong and lashed out with enormous palm prints. The prints resonated, making the air around them vibrate.
Many looked at the scene and thought that the City Lord was indeed a figure ranked fourth on the Barren Sky Ranking. He was near-invincible at his current plane.
Yuan Hong swung the Polearm of Divine Devastation about, bringing shadows of staffs to block out the sky, lashing out from the air. A rumble was heard in the air, but it was not the end of things. He seemed to be training with his staff techniques in the air. Golden storms whipped about and a build-up of incredible force about to tear everything apart was felt. When the sixth attack of the Nine Heavenly Attacks was unleashed, a beam of light cut through the air. Yuan Hong held onto the Polearm of Divine Devastation and swept before him. The staff shadows cleaved right through those terrifying ancient god prints in the middle, before lashing out at the shadows of the ancient gods themselves. The bodies of the summoned ancient gods continued to crumble from the blinding golden light conjured. Terrifying force went straight for Bai Gu himself. The air rumbled for a bit as Bai Gu was sent flying.
The eyes of many stared at Yuan Hong. He was like an immutable golden demonic god standing there. On that day, he defeated the City Lord who ranked fourth on the Barren Sky Ranking!

What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
