My Senior Brother Is Too Steady Chapter 268

Chapter 268 The First Contest in the Primordial World…
Less than half a day after Ao Yi left, the gift-giving team from the Dragon Palace arrived at the Sea God Temple with boxes of treasures.
It was also because the Dragon Palace was wealthy and had lived in the four seas for countless years. They did not feel the pinch when they gave him gifts.
However… he accepted the gift with his left hand and gave the Deity Position with his right…
Why did Li Changshou feel that he had forcefully turned himself into a crafty villain of the Heavenly Courts who plotted for personal gain and sold official positions to earn money?
He was a good minister!
In the rear hall of the Sea God Temple, Li Changshou’s paper effigy that was in the form of an old immortal swept his horsetail whisk, and most of the treasure chests disappeared. The pearls, agates, corals, and luminous pearls that were considered treasures in the mortal world were kept as rewards for his subordinates. Then, the paper effigy adjusted his makeup and rode a cloud towards the East Ocean. He began the plan that he had discussed with Ao Yi previously.
It was the first time the Primordial World had a talent show, ahem, a godly competition!
The Dragon Kings of the Four Seas would be the special guests for this competition. The thirty-nine elders of the dragon race would be the judges. The Flawless Great God of the Four Seas, and Ao Yi, the pioneer of the dragon race, would be the “Senior Group” for this competition.
As long as you are outstanding enough, you can make your “senior” turn around and give you the Deity Position of the Heavenly Courts!
In that case, it would seem that the Dragon Palace valued that matter very much, and the Heavenly Courts would gain some glory.
Due to the fact that it was an internal selection of the dragon race, the resistance of the dragon race was reduced.
At the same time, he could have fun with the dragon race, ease the internal conflicts of the dragon race, make the boring daily routines of the dragon race more interesting… and so on.
Li Changshou had even thought of a slogan”Battle of the entire dragon race, charge for the Deity Position!” Of course, the selection of gods this time was not transparent. The candidates of the initial round had already been decided. Most of the dragons were just watching the fun.
The sixteen Deity Positions were almost divided. It was just a process to give the Heavenly Courts and the Dragon Palace enough face.
In Li Changshou’s impression, in his previous life…
Ahem, let’s talk about serious matters.
When they arrived at the East Ocean, Ao Yi brought a large number of prawn soldiers and crab generals to welcome them before they arrived at the Dragon Palace.
According to Li Changshou’s instructions, the venue was ready. The venue was a side hall of the Crystal Palace, and various arrangements had been made.
The Dragon Kings of the Four Seas would only gather there tomorrow. It would take about twelve hours for the elders of the dragon race to gather…
Li Changshou and Ao Yi took the opportunity to formulate various rules.
For example, the dragon children that were chosen had to be really capable. They could not only know to sing and dance. They had to be responsible and have feelings for the dragon race and the four seas. There was no need for a touching story. Everyone was from the second generation of the dragon race. No one would believe them no matter how miserable they made themselves out to be.

According to Li Changshou’s request, the craftsmen of the dragon race had created six revolving Dharma artifacts on the spot. Later, they would be used by the Four Sea Dragon Kings and the Sea God Sect…
Li Changshou looked for the Dragon Palace musicians that he had worked with previously and discussed the details of the background music with them.
After he was done with that, Li Changshou looked at the magnificent and spacious hall and pondered for a while.
He felt that something was missing…
The singing and dancing performance had already been arranged. The dragon race did not lack this.
The emcee of the competition had also chosen a princess of the dragon race, Suo Rui, who had a graceful figure and was eloquent. She would not announce the names of the participants wrongly.
What else is missing?
Li Changshou pondered for a while and his eyes lit up.
He was lacking an audience. He was lacking a group of people who could laugh and cry at will!
That matter was easy to resolve. Although the overall acting skills of the dragon race were not impressive, the dragon race ruled over many Sea Clan members. It was not difficult for them to select some good-looking and emotional Sea Clan members to observe.
Li Changshou made a request, and Ao Yi immediately carried it out. Soon, he attracted hundreds of “spectators” from the dragon race and the Sea Clan. Li Changshou guided them on the spot for a while and asked them to cooperate with the music and make some expressions.
He was also very particular about how to let the others be touched without exaggerating it, and about making the audience cheer joyously without being too loud.
Just like that, Li Changshou gave it a try after he became a Golden Immortal. He used his identity as the executive director and “teacher” to organize a dragon race selection competition.
Although it was just a formality, it was quite a unique one.
Li Changshou took the opportunity to meet the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas…
Before the competition began, in the main hall of the Crystal Palace, the four dragon-headed elders sat on the platform together. Li Changshou and Ao Yi were arranged to sit at the side of the platform.
The four dragon-headed elders looked about the same. They were tall, short, fat, and thin.
The Dragon King of the East Ocean was the most dignified, but he gave off the laziest vibe.
The North Sea Dragon King was relatively thin, while the West Sea Dragon King was slightly wealthy-looking. The South Ocean Dragon King was the most decent-looking.
When Li Changshou walked out of the side hall, the Dragon Kings of The Four Seas stood up to welcome him.
When Li Changshou sat down, the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas raised their golden bottles and toasted Li Changshou, the Sea God…
Not only that, but the words they said were also very pleasant to the ear. They kept trying to bewitch Li Changshou.
“The reason that the Dragon Palace can be on good terms with the Heavenly Courts and obtain the Deity Positions from the Heavenly Courts is all because of you, Fellow Daoist!”
That was the compliment of the West Sea Dragon King whose subordinates were mostly traitors.
“From the ancient times until now, the only person whose wisdom can be compared to that of the Sea God is the Kun Peng Demon Master of the ancient Demon Court!”
Why did the North Sea Dragon King scold me?
The South Ocean Dragon King was more straightforward. He said, “Let’s toast!” Li Changshou took advantage of the situation and picked up the wine bottle. He began to praise them too. With just a few words, the four Dragon Kings squinted and smiled. They nodded continuously and praised the Sea God in their hearts…

After the banquet, they were going to start the “Dragon Selections for the deity positions. Li Changshou had already arranged everything. He would go through the process later and allow the dragon race to obtain those low-level Deity Positions.
However, at this crucial moment, the North Sea Dragon King suddenly said, “The selection of the dragon race disciples to enter the Heavenly Courts is worth celebrating. The Sea God’s arrangements are already perfect. There won’t be any mistakes. Why don’t we invite the Fellow Daoists of the Primordial World to bear witness?”
Li Changshou was rendered speechless.
This is too… embarrassing!
Seeing that the other three Dragon Kings were about to nod, Li Changshou hurriedly said, “Dragon King, in my opinion, the Sea Guardian patrolling positions that the Heavenly Courts have rewarded this time are not high-level Deity Positions. Will the reputation of the dragon race be tarnished with such a grand celebration?”
“No.” The Dragon King of the South Ocean said, “It’s better to do it.”
The North Sea Dragon King smiled and said, “The Primordial World knows that the dragon race is in a terrible predicament. Why don’t we use this opportunity to let them know that we have a good relationship with the Heavenly Courts?”
“Alright.” The East Ocean Dragon King nodded slowly and concluded.
Li Changshou frowned and pondered over the pros and cons. The Dragon Palace had taken the initiative to announce that matter. In fact, they were indirectly promoting the power of the Heavenly Courts. They were also announcing to the public that the Dragon Palace had sided with the Heavenly Courts and helped the Heavenly Courts make their presence known.
To him, that was a good thing. It was equivalent to earning merit by lying down and doing nothing
Ahem, it’s like earning merit by sitting down!
He had to show those playful designs that he had come up with in front of experts outside the dragon race. He had to sit on the throne that could spray white fog and turn around continuously…
He felt extremely ashamed.
Hence, the Dragon Palace Grand Tournament was postponed for half a month. The dragon race began to send out invitations and invited experts from all walks of life to attend the ceremony.
Li Changshou was worried that the pawns of the Western Sect would definitely sneak in. He had to make some arrangements to prevent them from causing trouble…
However, Li Changshou did not expect that that matter would become a grand event for the dragon race!
Half a month later, the main hall of the Crystal Palace was filled with people. There were countless figures gathered in front of the hall.
When Li Changshou pressed the red button in front of him and turned his chair around for a dragon amidst the white fog…
The Great Daoist Master, who was hiding in the dark, and Master Zhao Gongming, laughed. Perfected Huang Long, the ten Heavenly Lords of Golden Ao Island, and the other experts who were invited by the dragon race, squinted and smiled.
General Dongmu, who was holding a decree at the side of the seats for distinguished, was also present and seated beside the Heavenly General Hua Ritian who was in charge of protecting the decree.
The Golden Immortal Yun Zhongzi, who had come with Perfected Huang Long to watch the ceremony, as well as many immortals from the Jade Void Palace and Chan School who had once announced the Sea God’s name everywhere, were all present.
There were also dozens of immortals from Jie School who had nothing to do on Golden Ao Island…
Everyone looked impressed.
The Sea God’s reputation for being playful had spread throughout the Primordial World since then. Everyone was talking about it happily.
Although the process was a little embarrassing, Li Changshou managed to successfully distribute the sixteen low-level Deity positions.
Half of the disciples of the dragon race that were selected were the sons and nephews of the Dragon Kings of The Four Seas, while the other half were outstanding elites of the dragon race.
With the bestowal of the Deity Position, the negative karma that the Heavenly Dao had sent down was neutralized. The sixteen dragon children all had a breakthrough.
In a while, they would be patrolling the four seas. Li Changshou had also given them some advice and told them to do good and accumulate merit to save the living beings who had suffered. He also told them to spread the name of the Heavenly Courts and not do anything that would increase their negative karma.
The sixteen dragons were now Li Changshou’s subordinates. Li Changshou could take away their Deity Positions at any time.
After the announcement, Li Changshou and General Dongmu left on their own. The liveliness in the sea had nothing to do with them.
Li Changshou took the opportunity to use a different paper effigy and return to the Heavenly Courts. After changing the paper effigy, he secretly left the East Ocean Dragon Palace and waited on a small island for a while.
A cloud suddenly appeared in the sea. A slender figure stepped out of the cloud and slowly walked on the surface of the sea. His face was ordinary and there was a mysterious and natural Dao rune around him…
It was Great Daoist Master Xuan Du.
The Great Daoist Master smiled and said, “How’s the consolidation of your realm?”
“It’s already stable.” Li Changshou bowed and smiled. “Thank you, Great Daoist Master, for protecting me.”
The Great Daoist Master smiled and squinted. He asked mischievously, “Do you want to thank me for protecting you, or thank me for finding a Guardian for you?”
Li Changshou was rendered speechless.
“Great Daoist Master, regarding Fairy Yun Xiao, I’m really… Yes, I was caught off guard.” The Great Daoist Master Xuan Du smiled and did not say anything. He did not tease him further. Instead, he said, “It’s rare for me to be here. Come with me. I might have to seclude myself in the Tushita Palace for a period of time.”
Li Changshou said, “Great Daoist Master, don’t worry. I will definitely not cause trouble for Ren School.”
“That’s not right.” The Great Daoist Master smiled and said, “What is trouble? It will only be a problem if I can’t solve it. The time for the dragon race to ascend to the heavens is gradually ripe. You don’t have to worry when you should attack. Since the Grand Supreme Elder has already imparted the Dao of alchemy to you, you are now half a disciple of Teacher. If anyone bullies you, you will be embarrassing Teacher. Although being cautious is not bad, being overly cautious would not be nice if Teacher thinks that you are timid and afraid of trouble.”
Li Changshou bowed deeply and said, “I will follow your instructions, Great Daoist Master!”
“Alright.” The Great Daoist Master smiled and nodded. He waved his hand at Li Changshou and strolled around the East Ocean with him. He took the opportunity to teach Li Changshou the Dao of the Grand Pure One and the natural techniques.
Half a day passed unknowingly. The Great Daoist Master had the intention to leave and gave Li Changshou some instructions…
e
At that moment, Li Changshou’s heart suddenly surged. He scanned the Anshui City’s main temple with his spiritual will and frowned.
The Great Daoist Master smiled and said, “Is there anything that you can’t say? Just tell
me.”
“Great Daoist Master, there should be no problem with my Dao Body. A child riding an immortal crane arrived at my Sea God Temple…”
“Oh?” The Great Daoist Master smiled. “A boy riding an immortal crane? Why is he there?
Forget it. I’ll send your incarnation over and watch the fun.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the Great Daoist Master grabbed Li Changshou’s wrist and took a step forward.
Li Changshou felt the light around him circulate rapidly. Once again, he appeared in the sky above Anshui City in the South Ocean.
That was the Cosmic Escape technique!
Li Changshou looked down and saw a boy sitting on an immortal crane, floating in front of the Sea God Hall.
The boy had delicate features and sat cross-legged on the back of the immortal crane. He folded his arms and closed his eyes to focus. There was a hint of arrogance in his eyes.
There were many devotees watching from the surroundings. Some middle-aged ladies were praising the child for being handsome, which made the boy a little annoyed. Li Changshou smiled and said, “Great Daoist Master, I’ll deal with it.”
“Okay.”
The Great Daoist Master pinched his fingers and deduced. However, he had already figured out the origin of the boy and raised his eyebrows slightly.
Li Changshou’s paper effigy hid its tracks and rode a cloud to the rear hall of the Sea God Temple. Then, it carried a horsetail whisk and walked around the front hall with a smile.
All the devotees knew that he was the incarnation of the Sea God. They knelt down and worshiped him…
The boy opened his eyes. His gaze was cold as he said calmly, “Fellow Daoist, are you the Sea God?”
“That’s right.” Li Changshou smiled and said, “May I know who you are and what brings you
here?”
The boy continued, “My master wants to see you. Ask your main body to appear and quickly come with me.”
Upon hearing that, most of the mortal devotees and Divine Envoys of the Sea God Sect looked hostile.
How could this child speak to the Sea God so rudely?
Li Changshou frowned when he heard that. To be safe, he first asked who the old master that the boy was referring to was. Then, he flung his horsetail whisk and followed the young boy out of the place.
The other party was already embarrassing Ren School. He had to deal with it. Li Changshou said coldly, “I wonder who your master is. Why does he want me to meet him?”
“Hmph, listen to me. Don’t make me repeat myself! My master… has gained the Dao and manifested since ancient times, and he is from the same generation as the six Saints. He is currently in the Jade Void Palace, discussing the true meaning of the Dao with the Saint. The twelve Golden Immortals call him their teacher, and his Dharmic Dao is the Great Cosmic Mystical Ability. There is a Dao fire burning in the Essence Perception Cave. There is a lamp in the Spirit Vulture Mountain!” Li Changshou was enlightened. He flung his horsetail whisk and said,
“Please go ahead and leave. I won’t send you off.”

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
