Julian looks at Paul and goes back to training Cranidos, he doesn't want anything to do with this kid for now.

Paul stands there and watches Julian train his pokemon, he wanted to see how the most powerful champion trains his pokemon, most of it goes right of Paul's head as he didn't understand how Julian is training his pokemon but he could clearly see how fast his pokemons are improving. ​​

He then decides to go and confront Julian and ask him for a pokemon battle.

Julian "Now Cranidos, use Zen Headbutt once again"

Julian commands Cranidos to perform another Zen Headbutt, he is teaching Cranidos on how to focus all his energy in one part of the body for more damage.

He noticed Paul walking towards him, so he stopped and looked at Paul.

"What is it, kid?"

Julian asked.

"I want to have a pokemon battle with you"

Paul asked.

Julian saw that Paul really wanted to battle him.

"No"

Julian said and turned towards Cranidos.

"Why?"

Paul asked in frustration, his challenge was excepted by Cynthia so he though Julian will also agree.

"Because I don't want to"

Julian said.

"But you had a battle with that useless Ash"

Paul said in frustration.

"That useless Ash fought me in the finals of the Every Grande conference, and if you are to fight his old team you won't stand a chance of winning against him"

Julian said.

Paul got very frustrated, but he thought about what Julian said, if Ash really had his old pokemons with him he will be able to sweep through the whole league.

"You can go and train harder if you are lucky you will face me in the Sinnoh league, just like Ash did"

Julian said.

Paul didn't know what to do now.

Electivire who is on the side was watching this when a thought struck him and he laughed, he walked towards Julian.

Julian noticed Electivire walking towards him and turned towards his direction.

Electivire "Eleleletivivire"

Electivire said something which went completely above Paul's head but Julian understood what he was saying. Julian, is surprised by what Electivire said.

Julian "Are you sure?"

Julian asked.

Electivire nodded his head.

Julian chuckled and turned towards Paul and smiled at him.

"You might get a chance to battle me if you can defeat my Electivire"

Julian said.

"How is that even possible, your Electivire is clearly at Champion rank"

Paul burst out.

"Oh, you got me wrong, you won't be battling with Electivire with your pokemons against him, you will be battling my pokemons with Electivire taking over my place as the trainer"

Julian said and smiled.

"What?"

Paul was stunned by this, Julian's Electivire wants to act as a trainer.

"If you defeat Electivire then you got yourself a pokemon battle against me"

Julian said and smiled.

Paul turned and looked at the huge Electivire who has a grin on his face, Electivire lifts his hands and signals Paul to challenge him with arrogance in his face.

Paul could see the mocking glare in Electivire's eyes for him, this ticked off Paul and decided to go with it.

"Ok, I accept the challenge, If I win you have to battle me next"

Paul said to Julian.

"Of course, I never go back on my words"

Julian said and chucked.

Electivire turned towards Shinx and called him, he wants Shinx to be his partner in this battle.

Julian "I will be the referee, this will be a one on one battle"

Julian said and took his position, his pokemons went along with him and stood behind him to watch this, Gengar also came out of the shadow to watch this.

One of them is now going to have a battle as a trainer for the first time and its a huge deal.

Julian is trying very hard to hold back his laughter, Electivire really pulled this one out of nowhere, and it would be funnier if he wins.

Well, Julian is certain he will because he has on-field battle experience and being a pokemon, he can easily communicate with Shinx.

Julian "Electivire had decided to go with Shinx, Paul choose your pokemon"

Julian said and waited for Paul to send out his pokemon for this battle.

Paul looked at Electivire and Shinx.

Paul "Electabuzz, you are up"

Paul sent his Electabuzz for this battle.

Seeing the tiny Electabuzz, Electivire is conflicted but that won't cause him to lose focus.

Electivire [Little Shinx you got this]

Electivire said and Shinx nodded.

The battle is about to start, both sides are ready and they are waiting for Julian's signal.

Julian "Are both of you ready?"

He asked, seeing both parties are ready he smiled and gave the signal.

Julian "Then, let the battle begin"

And with the wave of his hand, the battle started.

Paul "Electabuzz Brick Break"

Electabuzz charged towards Shinx as fast as possible to land a Hammer Arm, while it is fast Shinx is still a lot faster.

Electivire [Shinx dodge and then use Bite]

With Electivire's command, Shinx easily moved away from the incoming Brick Break and came right behind Electabuzz and landed a Bite, causing a small explosion and making Electabuzz lose its balance and fall down.

It is damaged only a little but the pressure in on for Paul, he didn't expect a pokemon to command another one.
